"Canopy Makes Editing, Tasks, and Automations Effortless"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I like that I can edit files within the system with the help of the Canopy Desktop Assistant. I like the ability to create tasks and assignments, and I like that I can send request, reminders, and set up other automations. All of these things help me save time during the day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

I would like to see a dashboard that shows hours budgeted to each task/client. I would also prefer is time was recorded in quarters of an hour vs. seeing 8.21 hours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A CPA Firm's Go-To for Project Management and CRM"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

Canopy was a game-changer this past tax season. I bought a CPA firm in a different location from my practice, and I also have a remote worker. Canopy allowed me to know the status of every return in real time and communicate with the team members working on each client task, and also communicate with the clients through Canopy. It is also great for receiving client documents and storing them in the client portal. I love the ability to edit the client documents and leave notes for other team members. The clients like having instant access to their tax records and tax returns, and they also really like the e-signature feature through Canopy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Some clients have a hard time e-signing on their phone or tablet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlines Client Tasks and internal/external communication, But Reporting Needs Improvement"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

We use canopy to smooth out processes within our firm for bookkeeping, tax and advisory services. The client portal is great for clients to have one place to go to view and sign documents along with paying invoices. That ability to streamline processes from sales engagements to client onboarding to working with the client is improving constantly. Customer support is very responsive. The AI features are helping us improve efficiencies - especially the embedded Canopy Notetaker. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The reporting features still aren’t easy to use. It takes a lot of time to learn the Insights reporting tools well enough to generate the specific reports our firm needs. I also wish the client portal had a built-in communication feature. It sounds like that may be coming in the future, but for now it’s a noticeable gap. The client portal also NEEDS a way to show where a client is in a process. For example, during tax season, we would really like the client to be able to log in to their client portal and see that their returns are prepared and being reviewed without needing to send an email to check on their status. For being a platform that caters to tax and accounting, those sorts of features could really be strenghtened. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Truly All-in-One Platform That Streamlined Our Accounting Firm"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

It is truly an all-in-one solution for Accounting firms. We can do billing, collect documents from clients, run reports, organize documents, plan capacity for staff, and more, all in one platform. Before Canopy, we had at least 3 different systems to complete these items. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The document manager is a little clunky compared to other solutions I have used. Not being able to edit a document from within the task screen is a headache for staff. But, something I have to give Canopy credit for is that they are constantly making improvements and they take feedback from real users. I have talked to the Canopy team on multiple occasions and suggested refinements, and have been thrilled to see some of these come to fruition. They are really trying to fix the items we don't like. "True All‑in‑One Platform That Replaces Fragmented Tools"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

One of Canopy’s greatest strengths is its ability to consolidate core practice management functions into a single system. Instead of juggling separate tools for CRM, document storage, workflow tracking, billing, and tax resolution, our firm operates within one unified platform. The result is a more streamlined, scalable operating model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

For growing teams with multiple users and feature needs, total cost of ownership can become significantly higher than expected, and initial setup and workflow configuration require significant time and effort before you are able to extract the full value of the product. "All-in-One, Reliable Platform with Great Support and QBO Integration"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

The most helpful feature is having everything in one place for Client Work, Engagements, Payments and Time Tracking. Navigating everything within Canopy helps my Day to Day operations run much more efficiently and has been very reliable. The other feature that is helpful is being able to integrate to QBO so that I can balance my business books easier. The Pricing of Canopy is very affordable and the help I've received from Customer Service on any issues I've had has been great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Client Management and Workflow Solutions"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I love that Canopy manages our accounting firm’s day-to-day operations excellently, helping with client management, secure document storage, workflow and task management, time tracking, invoicing, and more. It helps us stay organized and consolidated with client work, deadlines, and documents all in one place, reducing friction and keeping us accountable. I really appreciate the centralization of features like documents, billing, tasks, and client portal, making client management from start to finish much easier. The built-in notetaker is another highlight; it automatically captures and transcribes meeting notes, creates action items and summaries, and allows us to add these to our client records. This feature saves time and enables us to be more present in client conversations without worrying about data handling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

It would be great to see more flexibility in workflow automations, although they are really great. Additional customization options for task management and templates would be helpful. But overall, Canopy has been responsive to customer feedback and is constantly making improvements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Feature-Rich but Integration Challenges"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I like that Canopy ships a lot of new products and features. It doesn't feel like stale software and seems to get better as time goes on. I appreciate that document requests are built into tasks, keeping everything in one place so I can track where things are at. When I need to ask the client for more things, I can do it from within the task, and it automatically reminds the client about what I need. This feature is quite helpful because I don't have to search through emails to remind myself what I need if they didn't respond. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Because Canopy is constantly adding improvements, sometimes things are a little buggy or lack some core features at first. I've learned not to be too early an adopter on some things. Unfortunately, Canopy doesn't play well with other software because they try to do it all themselves. That's a good thing most of the time, but it can be frustrating when there's another software I really like that works better than what Canopy offers for that particular tool. "Versatile Tool with Excellent Client Management Features"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I appreciate how Canopy manages client profiles and makes it easy to document information and upload files. I love the regular workshops and classes they offer, which help me use Canopy better and create excitement for new features. I've attended four workshops, and they not only enhance my use of Canopy but also allow me to provide real feedback to improve the service. Additionally, I've enjoyed the feature that allows me to edit PDFs within Canopy, which has been really helpful. The initial setup was very easy for our small business, and we've been gradually using more features. These aspects make Canopy a tool I would definitely recommend. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

I wish the client messaging/communications tab had a searchable method where you could search specific words or dates in the emails. Right now, it only allows you to search by clicking through communication and reading each email individually, which is also sometimes duplicated in a stream of emails. It would be nice to have a search tool where you could find items by searching keywords or phrases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly Interface with Room for AI Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I love how Canopy centralizes communicating securely with tax preparation clients. The simple, clean interface of the portal makes it easy for clients to sign firm records and send tax support documents, especially through the mobile application. This ease of use not only helps clients but also enhances my practice's professional and modern look, offering clients an organized way to process their tax prep. Additionally, I appreciate how easy the initial setup was, with no difficult hurdles during the onboarding process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

As much as I appreciate them pushing the envelope and developing new, cutting-edge tech products to integrate, some of their AI tools definitely need some work before they're ready for me to roll out and rely on fully. I would suggest they work on improving accuracy metrics for the data their models catch and use to prepare client-facing tools like organizers and checklists. Since these are scoped to tax, accuracy is the most important thing, and it can instill a subtle sense of distrust if I'm giving clients tools that don't work as they're supposed to.
