What do you like best about Blue Coat PacketShaper?

I like the application visibility of Blue Coat PacketShaper. Application signatures detect traffic as an application, and you have complete visibility of what is passing through your network. What traffic to rate limit etc. Instead of rate limiting traffic based upon TCP/UDP ports, you can do it based upon applications is very nice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Blue Coat PacketShaper?

I think Blue Coat packet shaper should provide more insights into reporting. The custom reports should be at more granular levels and shall provide more filters to get more insights. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Blue Coat PacketShaper:

I definitely recommend this product as i have seen very less glitches with it. It works very nicely if configured correctly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Blue Coat PacketShaper solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are optimizing and rate limiting the traffic with Bluecoat packet shaper. We had recently encountered a scenario where users can pull updates from SCCM over remote access VPN tunnel and when updates were pushed and all the users start downloading the updates, causing the internet link of the organization to have high bandwidth utilization. Their adoption towards the cloud PS is very slow.

Would have liked if they introduced cloud version of PS earlier.

Also its categorization engine seems to be bit slow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Blue Coat PacketShaper solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have been using PS to prioritize the important traffic like our VIP users.
