  ### 1. Bloomerang: The early days

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

Super easy-to-use interface. Reports are configurable to get the details you need. The dashboard is a fabulous all-in-one view of where you are from a Fundraising perspective. I love being able to see a complete view of a donor to prepare before meetings, and the ability to see it on a mobile device is even better. We are still new, 9 months in, so we have a long way to go to get full usage out of the tool. First-level support is gracious and quick to respond. They are helpful for all the things they can handle themselves.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

We have had a number of issues with our integrations with Quickbooks and synching. Most of the time, my issues have to be escalated to a 2nd tier of support and that is when it can get pretty difficult. They are backed up most of the time and it can take a long time for them to provide a response and/or resolution. The Quickbooks integration is clunky and although we are still working through a number of issues, I'm unsure if it is actually a timesaver or not. It took me 9 months to get the integration setup because I was waiting on their integration team just to find out that I didn't need to and could move forward without them. I requested a discount or credit because I had to manually enter in both systems for those 9 months we were waiting and the answer I got was No. I'm disappointed in their support, services, and integration teams.

Bloomerang helps us to have a holistic view into a donor from beginning to end and into the future. This is extremely helpful from a donor management and fundraising perspective.

Bloomerang takes the guess work out of constiuent file keeping! Having all constiuents in one database takes the guess work out of file retention!

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

Bloomerang gives the opportunties to format specific letters for each campaign. The formatting platform is not always easy to use at times. Especially when trying to add-in graphics.

Customer service is quick to respond to issues. Lots of helpful articles and video tutorials that are useful when questions arise. Good tools to help create and send emails and to create letters. In my experience, it's a great tool for small to mid-sized nonprofits

I wish there was a function that would allow us to use Bloomerang to send text messages.

Sometimes wish we could alter appearance of donation page but that's strictly coming from a designer view. The page works excellent - no complaints in its success.

Whenever I have a question, I have several options to seek answers: 1. Chat; 2. Call;, 3. Email. I've always found the customer service to be excellent.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

Probably cost. We are trying to grow our donor base so regularly add contacts with hopes of engaging them as donors. Each database record contributes to the price level for the product.

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

We love Bloomerang because it's an all-in-one solution! It feels great to watch our donor base grow and to monitor giving trends. Bloomerang has amazing tools for tracking engagement and cultivating donor relationships.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

We have had some trouble sending out tax receipts through Bloomerang. It took us multiple attempts to get the right tax receipt year(s) out to our donors. Also, I like being able to create email blasts directly in Bloomerang, but I wish there were a few more templates and customization options for the emails.

**What problems is Bloomerang CRM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As they say, knowledge is power, and that is definitely true when it comes to donor engagement! Our team loves adding notes based on previous interactions, so we are never losing ground on what we've learned about our donors.

Easy to view activity for a donor. My favorite thing is being able to split donations! A real time-saver. I think it is user-freindly as well, which makes it easier to train a new person. Their customer service is also responsive when I have an issue.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

Email and letter editing features. I wish you could make a household WHILE adding a new record (see GreterGiving for how that's done). I also wish you would integrate with GreaterGiving!

I like having all the tools I need in one place. Data is easier to see and reports are helpful.

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

I like that Bloomerang has a very short learning curve: you do not need to have a member of your staff dedicated to learning the platform, like you do with other CRMs like Salesforce. You can jump in and start using it proficiently within hours. The learning curve is very short and the experience is very user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

I wish Bloomerang had a better integration with Mailchimp. It's halfway there, offering a push style integration (meaning information is pushed from Bloomerang to Mailchimp), but it would be improved by a real time two-way sync between the two programs.

**What problems is Bloomerang CRM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many nonprofits are working with a small team that's strapped for time and resources - they don't have a database guru on staff, nor can they hire an outside consultant to manage their database needs. Bloomerang is so easy to use that neither of these things is needed. The best database for your organization isn't necessarily the most powerful one, it's the one that will actually be used. Because of Bloomerang's intuitive design and user-friendly features, it will be that database for the average nonprofit -- AND it will be powerful! It also recognizes that there are people on the nonprofit team who will never really take the time to log in to the database (looking at you, board members!) and has features built in to work around this -- like the ability to automatically send out reports over email, or to send task reminders over email.

Bloomerang offers countless helps, including video tutorials, numerous articles, chat, and a service help center that is very prompt in responding.

I have not had any issues using Bloomerang.

Finding accounts to merge, auto correcting addresses, finding credit card payment failures. This is causing us to retain more donors and keep our nonprofit funding steady.

Bloomerang is a great donor system. It allows you to track various categories of donors and track their engagement. You are able to follow up with lapsed donors and also see who may have donated before. Additionally, that website has a very user friendly interface and has great training video on their Bloomerand Academy

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

I wish Bloomerang allowed tracking of recent transactions/interactions. Sometimes I want to go back and review the last thing I worked on or confirm that an item was completed.

Bloomerang is solving donor tracking. It tracks every aspect of the donor relationship and provides all the tools to stay connected to donors. It reports are easy to create and letter templates are even easier.

Bloomerang is very user-friendly. It was easy to learn the system quickly. The userface is also visually appealing. It makes entering and retrieving donor information painless. I like how you can view a donor and at a glance, see their giving history. 

Bloomerang's support system is second to none. I have needed assistance with creating reports and other various features and each time I chatted with someone from support, they were always helpful and seemed to genuinely be concerned with my questions.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

I see no areas of improvement for this software!

Bloomerang helps keep all of our donor information and donations in one easy-to-access place, eliminating the need for endless Excel spreadsheets that could be accidentally lost or mishandled by staff.

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

The ease of use and straightforward nature of the app make me love it. The customer service is also on point a live person is available all day and they've never not been able to answer a question.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

I wish there was a shortcut to go from section to section. When you go into a graph and then want to go back you have to re click every specific thing to get back to where you were.

**What problems is Bloomerang CRM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a place to store our donor data. Bloomerang has been great for that. We also use it to send out our monthly newsletters.

The reporting tools are my favorite, after using many other CRM's for different business types I believe the Bloomerang reports are the most intuitive I've seen. It's quick and simple and so incredibly customizable.

I don't really have any complaints with Bloomerang. When I have an issue their customer support team is extremely quick to respond and almost always has an answer to my questions. The occasional time when I'm looking for functionality that doesn't yet exist I submit requests to the features portal and can watch as the team looks into the request and moves it into the planning, creation, and roll out phases.

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

Bloomerang is a clean and easy-to-use interface, which has only gotten better with each update. It takes a lot of the bulk of other databases and makes it much easier to navigate, allowing users to find just what they need. Little training is required to make Bloomerang usable for everyone. Reporting and more advanced tools are also very accessible and usable for those who need it. While I would like more options for the Profile and Timeline, the layout of these is very clear.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

Bloomerang has a few minor issues that could be easy to fix; namely, how exporting emails and phone numbers are handled, and the amount of customization allowed on elements of transactions, the profile, and other built-in elements.

My organization elected not to use households when we switched from eTapestry, which meant that couples share an individual record. A flaw of the Bloomerang system is that when you export an account's emails or phone numbers, you can only retrieve two emails; a home and a work. As such, if we have two "home" emails for a couple, only one will appear in a report. As a result, my organization has to do a full database export whenever we want a full email list, and use a separate program to match up formal names with those addresses. It seems like a simple fix to have reports pull ALL emails or phone numbers from a record to alleviate this stress. Even if we were using households the way they were intended, this issue would still stand for people who use multiple email addresses or phone numbers. This issue is pretty detrimental to my organization in particular.

I would love for some elements of Bloomerang to be customizable more thoroughly. In particular, being able to customize the Method on a transaction, or the names/types of Communication Restrictions would be incredibly helpful. My organization has been trying to use the QBO integration, for example, but in order to map to the Account in QuickBooks, we need to know whether a gift came from PayPal, our website, or other online payment systems that we use. Being able to customize the Method would be ideal for this. Having more customization for Communication Restrictions would allow us to remove non-usable fields (Like Do Not Call, for us) and replace them with more specific restrictions unique to us. This is also relevant for the Purpose fields on Interactions. Being able to customize how Funds, Campaigns, and Appeals relate to each other could allow for cleaner data entry as well; for example, when a certain Fund is selected, only a certain selection of Campaigns are available, or even being able to require the Campaign and Appeal. Being able to customize the Summary page or Dashboard to highlight charts and graphs useful to our org as opposed to the baked-in versions Bloomerang gives us. This level of customization would take my organization to the next level with our use of Bloomerang!

**Recommendations to others considering Bloomerang CRM:**

Be prepared to set up lots of custom fields to make sure that Bloomerang works for you. Clean up the data before moving it to the new database, as it may not be as simple to edit once it is transferred over.

Bloomerang has slowly been addressing issues; search functionality, for example, was just fixed up along with some interface issues. Mass Updating has been added, which was critical for my organization (though it could still be expanded on!). It's nice to feel heard and like Bloomerang is headed in a positive direction. I would love to see these features continue to change and grow, particularly the Mass Updating so we can include updates based around Custom Fields.

Bloomerang is easy, intuitive, and flexible. It is so flexible that we also use it as a general database for the organization to track volunteers and clients, as well as donors! Although I've not had time to take advantage of many classes, they offer them in every aspect of the program and those I've attended were very helpful.

I find very few flaws in Bloomerang. If I could choose one thing it would be the "household" linking. I would prefer you could make a household perform more like one constituent. I had a situation where the wife had done the donating on behalf of the couple, and when she passed away it would have been handy to have been able to keep all of those details with the husband.

Bloomerang makes tracking donor and donation information so easy. It's user friendly and even the less tech-savy people on your team will be able to learn the ropes fairly quickly. Good data is essential for good fundraising. If you want to set yourself a part in the nonprofit industry it's an absolute must. Bloomerang is a great resource to accomplish your goals.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

There are limitations in dashboard views and reporting. The reporting function is good and it seeks to simplify a potentially complicated tool but by doing so it limits how detailed you can get in your reporting. The dashboard cannot be customized per user, which I find very unfortunate. Their integrations with other platforms are iffy. I've used several and have continued issues with them.

**Recommendations to others considering Bloomerang CRM:**

Go slow & do it right the first time. Don't willy-nilly add custom fields. Talk to someone who understands data. Undoing this type of carelessness is time-consuming & expensive.

We are actively working on donor retention and Bloomerang provides so many resources on this topic. We are also working on better communication targets for our constituents. Again, Bloomerang makes this easy by being able to add custom fields.

I love how intuitive the system is for users. Everything can be modified to work for the school/organization's needs and sending out acknowledgment letters via email to our donors and having their record automatically updated has made the process so much easier because the school does not have any development staff. I am a volunteer board member who chairs the Development Committee, and Bloomerang has really taken the school's fundraising efforts and donor stewardship efforts to the next level.

I wish there was a key of all the different search filters that I could look at while trying to create a report because it can get kind of confusing when I am trying to put in specific filters. I also wish that Bloomerang integrates with more special event software so we did not have to do a mass upload after our major fundraising events.

We needed a quick and efficient way to send out acknowledgments for donor stewardship and the email function provides that for us. Bloomerang is our first entree into the data base management systems (outside of the MS Access/Excel spreadsheet approach).  We researched a long time before making our decision.   Now many years later, We are STILL very happy with our decision.  The data conversion was seamless, the system is incredibly "user friendly",  the service provided by staff is very responsive and attentive,  the tutorials provide easy to understand information,  the ongoing opportunities to access fund/resource development  education is valuable,   to name a few of the reasons we are so pleased.  The team is continuing to update and provide additional tools to aid in information gathering.  Frankly, we do not utilize the full capacity of the system.

Honestly...  we don't have a 'dislike'...   any weakness is more on our end in learning and using the system more efficiently.  The capacity is there.

Bloomerang feels intuitive and easy to use. I like the reporting. If I can't figure something out for myself, the help forum and the videos are great. If I STILL can't figure something out, they are fast to answer emails, and the answers are consistently helpful.

I would like a feature that would allow me to duplicate a previous donation. For instance, we have donors who send in a check monthly. I'd like to be able to duplicate last month's entry and just change the date.

We used to keep all of our donors in QuickBooks, but it's so much easier to create the donor letters in Bloomerang. I love syncing Bloomerang to QuickBooks so we don't have to enter the data twice. We like how easy Bloomerang is to use. The interface is super slick and easy to understand. The reporting tool does what is should and is easy to use a variety of different ways. The ability to have Bloomerang in your pocket via the mobile app is great when we are networking in the community or conducting events. More than that, however, we like how we can send data from other systems to Bloomerang via Zapier. We can see the full picture by sending HubSpot and registration information to Bloomerang which helps for prospecting and ongoing engagement.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

Honestly, there are not many downsides to Bloomerang. Some of the Zapier integrations could be a little cleaner to set up but that is not a Bloomerang challenge. That is more dictated by all the various systems that need to send data to Bloomerang.

With Bloomerang we have one master database to reference for information pertaining to our constituents. We no longer need to access information in HubSpot for marketing, in WebConnex or EventBrite for registration information and in Sales Force. The platform is easy to navigate, the fonts, colors are well-suited and its user experience is not overwhelming.

The need to contact Support quite often because some things need to be uploaded to be added, also there is no particular understanding the platform has when it comes to recording events and people who participate in those events, especially if the people are not related to each other. This platform works best when it comes to managing donors as family networks, in my experience. The upside is that there is always lots to learn - and Bloomerang support is VERY responsive and produces clear training videos. I just wish some actions were easier and there were more tools, so certain processed don't take as much time manually.

Really take the time to learn about the platform and about those on your team who will use it. It has to be a mutual fit. Also be preparaed to learn a lot and do things differently from how you're used to on other CRMs/DRMs.

Unless you pay an extra fee to import past data, expect the import process to be a bit strenuous depending on which platform you are switching from. The data mapping is great, just took me a bit longer than expected to get everything set up.

The benefits are having emails within the system itself and tracking website visits. It is fairly easy to see how connected our constituents are and who we need to reach out to to get them more involved.

Bloomerang is so easy to use. It's intuitive, it is robust in reporting, it makes it much easier to care for donors and other stakeholders.
The customer service is great!

Some of the reporting is difficult to navigate. It's much easier than products like salesforce, but there is a learning curve.

**Recommendations to others considering Bloomerang CRM:**

Use the training they offer at the beginning. They will walk you through it one on one. 
Also, I recommend integrating with a stripe as your payment processor (until they have ACH) and Fundraise Up for campaigns.

**What problems is Bloomerang CRM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bloomerang helps nonprofits track conversations with their constituents. This allows for long term relationships that aren't dependent on a person. Especially as turnover in development positions is so high, the more that can be documented and tracked, the more efficient and personal you can be. 
Plus- it's much less expensive than many other CRM systems

For a non-tech person, it's so easy to use. Easy to learn. Phenomenal support. Questions are answered. And great fundraising training. What's NOT to like? Bloomerang has it all!

I record manually checks received into the system. And while I know there have been umpteen trainings on this, I've not yet learned how to send emails from the system. So much to learn, so little time. But it's been an amazing time-saver!

The classes are terrific! Great for those needing prof dev points for CFRE re-certification.

You won't believe that for my pro-bono volunteer work as a fundraiser for a political party, I was working off excel sheets. I feel like I went from the 1980's to 2020's in a single bound!

We have tried several databases to track donor information and Bloomerang is by far the best and most user-friendly. We love that we can send emails and create reports all from within the system!

Some of the reports take a little trial and error to make sure the settings are correct, but it doesn't take long to figure it out and once you have that report saved we use it over and over with just a few tweaks.

We have been using Bloomerang for many years and have never had any issues with our service or use of the program. It is definitely worth the investment for any business needing to track information.

Bloomerang has allowed us to condense the number of programs we use. We no longer need a separate system to send email blasts to do donors, volunteers or individuals, we can easily create them all in one place!

It is a fairly basic platform to use, they offer plenty of educational offerings, and their technical support team is always very helpful.

Some of the methods for creating reports seem confusing or the filters are not as easy to find as you might think so that can be frustrating.

The only thing that would make Bloomerang even better from our perspective would be the ability to run our events through the CRM providing virtual platforms.

Bloomerang is not only an improvement from the other donor database I inherited, it has lots of hidden gems that after 2 years I am discovering. It is relatively easy to learn with tons of videos, tips and instant online help when needed. I can send emails fairly easily to my entire database or be selective. It interfaces with MailChimp and Stripe. Yup - definitely a good fit for our non-profit!

Research all the various applications and try their demos, speak to their staff so you understand all of their capabilities and if they match your needs and wants. The top picks will float to the top and make it easier to choose.

**What do you like best about Bloomerang CRM?**

It's modern and offers fairly modern solutions to industry standard issues and needs. It does its job as a CRM and lets us organize donors in logical ways. Plus, Bloomerang tends to have some pretty good webinars.

**What do you dislike about Bloomerang CRM?**

The interface is not intuitive. Features are burried in menus within menus. The email feature was promising until I attempted to use it. Same with the form embed. The customization leaves a lot to be desired. It can be done, but extensive coding knowledge is necessary. Plus, the Kindful acquisition is not seeming to add any feature without extra cost.

**What problems is Bloomerang CRM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has definitely provided a much improved system to store donor information. We didn't realize all the weird little hacks we had to do just to make eTapestry display dara correctly. Once everything was ported over, there were a plethora of ways to properly code information.
