The system makes sense; if you understand accounting, you can understand NXT. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?** Completely dislike two things. (maybe three) First is the Approve/Validate/Post process for journal entries. After you do the entry, it's two more clicks to get the entry to post. Next is the option to 'allow journal entries without updating the cash account' which is strange (if I update cash, update the register at the same time); but I don't understand the concept of reconciling 'register' to 'cash account'. Likely just me.... **What problems is Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The Raiser's Edge to Financial Edge connection is beyond helpful! Much stronger internal control, the check is entered once and flows thru both systems. Before Blackbaud, we were entering the check twice; once in Donor Perfect, and once in QuickBooks. Now the check comes thru Development, and automatically updates Financial Edge. ### 2. The help tool is very resourceful and great for finding more information. It's very user-friendly. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?** The web-based aspect is sometimes slow and unable to access. Once a transaction is posted, you cannot delete it but must reverse the transaction. Reporting is a great tool, but having to create multiple reports from the implementation stage takes time. Implementation was difficult and even after several years, there are still issues or corrections being found. **What problems is Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT assists by creating a centralized accounting system, correlating with Raiser's Edge. It's web-based, so I can access it from anywhere. On the inability to delete a transaction, that is intentional in order to preserve an audit trail. If your organization requires additional validation before posting, you can validate a batch/posting before it's permanently posted. And of course, there's no limit on reversals if something does make it all the way to posting—the audit trail will just reflect that so your auditors have that record. ### 3. I find it's flexible enough to edit information but with the proper controls. They finally have built out the full NXT version although it did take at 9 years. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?** The fact that Blackbaud doesn't allow other technologies to interact with it is it's biggest detriment. In todays modern world, we need to be able to pay bills using a service and receive money from multiple sources without needing to manually import data or jump through hoops to get the information to flow into the proper fields. Also, more support on setup and maybe defaults set that most people would want to have. For instance, the ability to post a JE to a cash account without impacting the register should be defaulted to not allow. I've seen too many clients who made this mistake and just assumed the software was bad. Also transaction and document date differences cause trouble reconciling accounts such as A/P and A/R. **What problems is Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to segment the account numbers and field for projects and grants allow for excellent tracking of data. ### 21. Most people are at least a little familiar with Excel, so it is really nice to be able to make detailed budgets in a way that everybody can grasp. This also makes it really easy for integration becaues a lot of our previous budgets at my company were in Excel. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?** It took a little bit of time to become familiar with where everything is stored/where to find what you needed. **What problems is Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The major benefit I see with Financial Edge at my company is the sharing of information so that everyone can see the same information. Previously, we just had a shared drive with a ton of different folders that different business units and people saved items to. I have watched the programs evolve and grow to meet the needs of consumers in the various industries that they serve. Are they perfect.... no. However, they are growing and evolving over time. They are working on getting their processing and systems better over time. That being said, sometimes you don't get things the exact way you want them on the first try. I usually have about 40 projects open and by projects I mean houses under construction. I've been able to reach out to my manager to approve invoices on the go, or she has been able to run reports for development on the go. The data entry seems fairly seamless with all of the information available on one page as opposed to database view where things are in tabs. Reporting has been great since you can run several reports at once at a faster rate than previously. I am looking forward to the integration and implementation upcoming for the full on web version. I'm curious to see how they incorporate many users favorite features such as QUERIES. I LOVE the excel add-in for our larger data journal entries. That has been fantastic, I have formulated our spreadsheets to just be able to flow into those which makes for easy entry. The add in for excel allows you to validate and it pushes the journal entry over to the database. It also will show you any discrepancies before it will validate and push it over. Overall implementation has been pretty seamless as we have been on it for over a year. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?** Lack of queries when we build many of our reports based on them is a little concerning. I like the ease of data entry yet it also feels like there is some lag in the forms filling out. Database view you can type and tab and it goes, with NXT there is a lag for data entry as it tries to go down the list. Which is frustrating when doing journal entries or other forms that require tabbing through and quick entry. I dislike that we are not always notified when things are changed, even taking training courses and the trainers were unaware of changes. I realize that they are in process of converting to full web based this year so I will try to give them some grace as they work out the kinks. **What problems is Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating a quality database in which we can place most of what we currently have living in spreadsheets directly into Financial Edge NXT in data that we can potentially use to query on in the future. We have many program and more specifically scholarships that have different criteria and information that we have to look up or update on a regular basis. We currently have two large spreadsheets we are attempting to integrate that information into NXT so that we can easily all access and edit the data as necessary. We're hoping there are some other integrations on the way that we can use to potentially do other calculations as well. ### 27.
