## Betterment at Work Reviews
  ### 1. Straightforward Betterment Onboarding with a Smooth 401(k) Transition

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando V. | HR Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The onboarding experience was straightforward, and the transition from our previous 401(k) provider was well managed. Employees found it easy to claim their accounts, review their investments, and update their contribution elections. The Betterment team was also very responsive throughout the implementation process. As an administrator, I appreciate how simple it is to manage the plan while giving employees an easy-to-use platform for their retirement savings. The communication during implementation was clear, and the support team was quick to help whenever we needed assistance. The integration with Rippling was easy and user-friendly. AI report features increase performance in our HR team. And lastly the cost to our company is considerably lower than previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The transition required a fair amount of coordination, and there were a few areas where the documentation could have been clearer, particularly around payroll uploads for loan repayments and some of the plan configuration details. That said, the implementation team was responsive and helped us work through our questions.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment has given our employees a much more modern and intuitive experience for managing their retirement accounts. From an administrator perspective, it has streamlined our 401(k) management, and the implementation team helped make the transition from our previous provider as smooth as possible.

Before switching to Betterment, we were looking for a more modern and employee-friendly 401(k) platform that would simplify plan administration and improve the participant experience. Our previous provider required more manual processes and offered a less intuitive interface for employees.

Since implementing Betterment, we've been able to provide employees with a much easier way to enroll, manage their retirement accounts, update beneficiaries, review investment options, and adjust contribution elections. From the HR side, the implementation team guided us through the transition, coordinated the asset transfer, and was responsive whenever we had questions during setup.

While there was a learning curve during implementation, Betterment has given us a more streamlined retirement platform that is easier for employees to navigate and should reduce the amount of administrative support our team needs to provide over time. Overall, it has been a positive upgrade for both our employees and our People Operations team.

  ### 2. Low effort 401(k) administration that saves time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric R. | Revenue Operations Manager, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As the person who administers our 401k, what I value most is how little the platform gets in my way. Betterment handles the investments and default allocations, which is a real time-saver at a small company where I wear a lot of hats. Employee facing onboarding and tooling is good enough that most everyone can enroll without pinging me. The admin dashboard surfaces what I need for census and contribution tracking without a lot of digging, including plan docs that I routinely need to reference.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Plan-design flexibility is more limited. When I was evaluating a safe harbor change and thinking through ADP testing and top-heavy exposure, I wanted more built-in modeling and clearer guidance in-platform rather than having to work it out separately or with support. Reporting exports could also be more configurable. Support is generally responsive but can slow down on nuanced compliance questions that fall outside the standard playbook. Badly needs integration with my PEO, Deel.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives a lean Ops team a competitive retirement benefit without requiring a dedicated benefits admin or a separate advisor. The automation around enrollment and contributions removes recurring manual work, and offering a modern, low-friction 401(k) helps with recruiting a ton.

  ### 3. Streamlined 401k Management with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barbara B. | Controller / Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really like how easy Betterment at Work made it to set up my company's 401k account. It was cost-effective for our company to have the plan, and they handle the hard paperwork for us. When I need help, there is always someone to assist me, and the agent walked me through every step of setting it up. Betterment also works alongside Paychex and automatically gets the info directly, which is super convenient. The low cost and reputation of Betterment were also key factors for us, and I'd give them a recommendation score of 9.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I had an issue setting up an additional emergency account. I didn't know why it was happening and I had to contact support. That wasn't straightforward enough, but the solution was easy once a rep from Betterment explained it to me. It would have been faster if that was a little more straightforward.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work cost-effective for managing our company's 401k and they handle the hard paperwork. It's easy to set up, and customer support is always available to help.

  ### 4. Fair-Priced, Seamless 401(k) Platform That Simplifies Setup and Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob M. | Director of Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As an employer, Betterment at Work was a fantastic option from a price standpoint. It is a fair price to get our 401k platform set up and running. My favorite part is that it cuts out all of the crazy steps and fees that come with other 401k providers and provides a simple and seamless online platform to help with managing the 401k plan. Though we do not have an integrated payroll provider, the process of integrating is very easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The onboarding process was very simple initially. However, I did not like how difficult it was to get ahold of people with questions and support. Their response time was very slow as they help many clients. I also did not like how you dont have one set contact that helps with your account, rather a call center that you have to go through. Performance is mostly good but can be better especially when uploading larger payroll batches.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It save me a lot of administrative time by solving most of those problems for me. The platform is easy to use and so it save me a lot of time in the long run. A lot of the automated features help when it comes to administrative overhead that comes with managing a large 401k plan.

  ### 5. Flexible Employee Options, Easy for employees to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian E. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers a variety of investment options and loans for employees. It's beneficial as it allows employees to get a loan from their 401k and repay it through payroll deductions, which simplifies the process. I also appreciate the ability for customization for employees and the enhanced options for customization and loans compared to our previous provider, Guideline.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't like that the employees have to sign up themselves and sometimes they get lost when trying to sign up. The initial setup was also a bit hard, and we encountered difficulties because our contact was changed mid-process, which significantly delayed things.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work offers diverse investment options and loans, allowing employees to repay through payroll. It integrates well with accounting software and provides customization for employees.

  ### 6. Easy Payroll Processing, Clear Notifications, and Fast Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy M. | Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Website is easy and communication between employees and management/payroll is very good. Payroll is easy to upload and process by downloading a CSV file and entering data. Approving distributions and getting notifications are easy and clear as well.
Pricing was better than our old plan and employee options are greater as ell.
Support has been quick to repond to any questions, typically within hours and the same day.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Having access to a real person and having a phone number for contacting was the biggest dislike I have. All communication has been email or online support. Maybe I am old school but a real person connection has been my biggest dislike.
All communication with online and support has been quick response but I do miss that personal connection.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not have any problems.

  ### 7. Effortless Retirement Plan Administration with Betterment’s All-in-One Dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has made retirement plan administration much more efficient through automated payroll syncing, built-in fiduciary support, and an intuitive all-in-one dashboard. The platform reduces administrative work, simplifies compliance with automated testing and Form 5500 preparation, and helps minimize employer risk. Its reporting tools, and flexible plan design make it easier to manage retirement benefits while allowing HR teams to focus on more strategic priorities.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One of my biggest frustrations is the limited and unrefreshed employee education and self-service resources. Information on advanced retirement strategies and unsupported plan features is difficult to find, often requiring employees or administrators to contact support only to learn the feature is unavailable. I would also like to see more educational content explaining the value of contributing to a 401(k), even when an employer does not offer a matching contribution, to help employees make more informed retirement decisions.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work has simplified retirement plan administration by automating payroll integrations, reducing manual processes, and streamlining compliance. Its fiduciary services, automated testing, and centralized dashboard have lowered our administrative burden and reduced the risk associated with plan management. The platform also provides employees with easy access to retirement planning tools and financial guidance, allowing our HR team to spend less time answering routine questions and more time focusing on strategic initiatives.

  ### 8. Seamless 401(k) Management with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I love that Betterment at Work is easy to use and offers great customer service. I onboarded them specifically because they integrated well with our current tech stack (Rippling, Quickbooks) and gave us seamless monthly reporting.

That reporting is very robust, much better than other partners we'd worked with, and makes our monthly financial reports easy to handle.

The platform is also extremely user-friendly and provides great options for employee education.

The onboarding process was really smooth, really a high-quality offering. We had to migrate our entire employee base over (200+ people) and they did it on an accelerated timeline with no bumps. Additionally, their better fee structure, investment plan options, and reporting are significant improvements from our previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing; it's a great product from my perspective and I'm thrilled we onboarded them

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were having significant issues with reporting, client success, and issues with filings with previous providers. Betterment has solved each of those issues.
The account service is spectacular, and we're getting a better product for even less money . Its a more cost-effective plan, with better options for employee investments, and a more robust software platform with better reporting.

  ### 9. Effortless Payroll Integration, Minor Reporting Hiccups

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristi H. | Staff Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really appreciate how Betterment at Work functions smoothly with Rippling to handle payroll efficiently. Once an employee is set up, it's completely hands-off, which makes this task one thing I don't have to worry about when ensuring payroll runs smoothly and all the information flows correctly. I also like that employees have direct access and control over their own accounts without having to go through me. They can make changes, check their account balances, and work directly with Betterment, which removes the task from my plate. The initial setup was pretty straightforward and easy, which added to the positive experience.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Admin reporting is a little weird. You will eventually get there, but it isn't my favorite feature to work with. Actually show the reporting option. Having to select 'Run Report' seems backwards and goes against my instinct of where to actually find the options. As I am a Controller, I was asking my CFO for the reports as I didn't think I was given access. My screen always showed 'No reports to show'. She had to tell me how to run them before I realized I even had access to the reporting.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work integrates with Rippling for smooth payroll processing, making it hands-off once set up. Employees manage their own accounts, reducing my workload and ensuring better control over account activities.

  ### 10. Easy Setup but Needs Better Data Accuracy

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melanie B. | Human Resources Manager

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like that Betterment at Work allows employees to view their retirement accounts and get updates easily online, using their website or mobile app. Betterment's 360 integration makes my job as an HR team of one much easier. Additionally, Betterment was very easy to work with during the transition.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I found that some of the information was inaccurate, and their implementation wasn't complete. The inaccuracies were caused by data they pulled from an unknown source and it caused our compliance testing to fail. After doing an audit of my own, I discovered an employees demographics were loaded, but the remainder of the information was missing, and somehow the data below it shifted up, causing all rows below it to be wrong. It would be beneficial if Betterment at Work proactively checked and audited the information regularly. Specifically, the information transferred through the API should match what's displayed on the employee profiles and reports.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage retirement accounts. Employees can view their retirement easily online or with the app. Betterment's integration makes my HR tasks simpler.

  ### 11. Affordable 401(k) Solution for Small Businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I appreciate Betterment at Work because it gives me a really easy and low-budget 401(k) offering for my employees, which is very important given my narrow profit margin. It's very easy to administer, and there are a lot of really helpful guides for staying compliant with the necessary requirements as a business owner. I love all of that about it. Another thing I like is that it syncs with our payroll system, Gusto, which makes it convenient. The initial setup was seamless and so easy, helped by the team there.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I think the only thing that's a bit hard is there's a self-management piece with some of the forms that need to be filed. Generally, I find they're really well explained, but just a little bit of guesswork can make me wonder if everything is done correctly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work offers an easy and low-budget 401(k) solution that's easy to administer with helpful guides for staying compliant, which I love.

  ### 12. Worth the Cost—Betterment at Work Delivers for Small Business Owners

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work is very intuitive and easy to use. As a small business owner I do not have a lot of time but needed to find ways to provide additional benefits to my team to attract and retain talent.

The onboarding process was smooth and the Betterment staff were helpful and responsive. While there are fees associated with providing this type of benefit they are well below the services provided.

Over the past two years of using the service we have had a few errors internally and Betterment has been extremely helpful in resolving them and have consistently waived any fees for correcting our mistakes. This alone is worth the cost of their service.

The interface for my staff is engaging and smooth. As of yet I have not had any complaints from my team about performance or ease of use. Several team members have left and conveyed no issues with integrating their retirement accounts with their next employer.

Overall I would highly recommend Betterment at Work for anyone looking to reward their team and help them plan for the future.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

My only complaint is I wish the fee structure and timing was a little clearer and easier to see in one place. I like to plan out my cash flow and costs at the beginning of the year and I found finding the fees and timing not as easy as the rest of the interface.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work allows my small business to provide big business retirement benefits that allow my to compete for top talent.

  ### 13. Simplified Retirement Plan Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Smily S. | HR Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

What I like most about Betterment at Work is how simple it is to administer and navigate. The platform feels intuitive for both employees and administrators, which makes managing the retirement plan straightforward. It also streamlines onboarding (when integrated with Rippling) and offers helpful resources, so supporting employees and responding to questions is much easier.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There aren’t many major drawbacks, but I’d like to see stronger administrative reporting along with more customization options.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform streamlines retirement plan administration, which saves time and cuts down on manual work. It’s also intuitive, making it easier for employees to manage their accounts and creating a smoother overall experience for everyone involved.

  ### 14. Effortless Management of Benefits and Time Off

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chevonne L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like how Betterment at Work keeps everything in a central location for me, helping me keep track of my employees, their time off, their 401(k), and anything else I need to track. I also like the notifications, as they keep me proactive on certain things. The software helps me stay organized throughout the day, especially with employee time off requests, allowing me to adjust schedules or arrange replacements. It also enables me to inform employees ahead of time about their eligibility for 401(k) and other benefits. The initial setup was pretty seamless, and I enjoyed the service when we signed up.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

n/a

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage my 401(k) and keep track of my employees' time off and benefits in a central location. It sends notifications to keep me proactive, helps organize schedules, and notifies employees about benefit eligibility.

  ### 15. Review -Jagriti

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jagriti C. | Accounting Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like the availability of readily available information in Betterment at Work. It makes it easy to check contribution rates, bank accounts on file, and see which employees are enrolled or not. Plus, the information syncs seamlessly from the payroll software. The initial setup was also very easy, with just some contract documents to sign, and the flexibility to sync with payroll software made onboarding employees a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

So I tried to delete an account that we no longer use, but I wasn't able to do that. Probably because of lack of my knowledge. But, yeah, I would love to see how I can remove a bank account, which I don't use anymore.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage 401(k) contributions easily, run reports on employee contributions, and access readily available information like contribution rates and enrollment status synced from payroll.

  ### 16. Easy 401(k) Management with Seamless Bank and Rippling Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alec G. | Senior Accounting Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Sales process was very easy and straightforward. The product works exactly as needed and from an administrator standpoint it is easy to manage employee 401(K) plans, contribution changes, distrubution requests, etc. It integrates very easily with our bank and Rippling. The onboarding and support we have received has been top notch.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

It took a bit to transfer over our old 401(K) plan from Accrue, but this is not necessarily on Betterment.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is solving the issue of managing our employee 401(K) plans as well as our employer contributions into their plans. It gives us insights into how our plan is being managed.

  ### 17. Helpful Support and an Easy-to-Navigate Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The support when I needed to change plan type mid year was very helpful. Super clear and walked me through tradeoffs. Both the chat and AI were useful. Interface is easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I haven't found much I dislike. It's reasonably priced, the interface is easy, and any time I've had to use the chat, the AI was pretty useful and if it couldn't support me a human was available. Maybe a clearer list of what Betterment requires of plan admins across the year? Or a calendar would be nice?

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They solve our 401k needs and support compliance. Overall the performance around the latter has been most helpful. I wouldn't know inherently to do some of the tasks. Their integration with our payroll provider is also helpful in cutting back time during the payroll process

  ### 18. Easy system.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Ease of use is the best thing about betterment. It was very easy to set up and add users. They make reporting easy too. I can easily run reports and get info on changes to elections. They also have alot of tools online that i can share with employees to help them navigate. The integration with my payroll provider was seemless. They also like to work with Betterment which was great!

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

It took me a bit to figure out how to change my investment options, but once I got there, it was easy. I had an issue with follow up last year, but once the issue was understood by all, they were quick to get me information.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love that it is hands off for administration. The employees can do everything on their own.

  ### 19. Easy to Use and Easy to Manage!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Staffing and Recruiting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's easy to use and straightforward to manage. Everything is simple to navigate, and it makes offering and maintaining a retirement benefit a seamless process. I also really like the layout of the dashboard that makes it easy to see outstanding tasks and a quick glance at the plan insights.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

No major complaints so far. It's been easy to use and straightforward to manage.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work makes it easy to offer and manage a retirement benefit without creating a lot of administrative work. It streamlines the process for both employers and employees, which saves time and makes managing the plan simple. We had one instance where we uploaded incorrect data for deduction amounts and they were able to help us easily resolve the issue and correct amounts in various employee accounts.

  ### 20. Betterment at Work + Gusto Integration Makes 401(k) Administration Effortless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrian B. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work paired with an integration with Gusto Payroll has made our small business' 401k administration as automated as possible and has saved our leadership team countless stress and time as a result.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I personally wish there were more options for customizing portfolios on the employee end. It would also be great to turn off or modify some of the defaults, such as the default 6% contribution and escalation each year.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As mentioned prior, it's saving our small leadership team a ton of time and stress with nearly automated management.

  ### 21. Affordable 401(k) Management with Room for Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really appreciate the ease of setup and management with Betterment at Work; it's extremely easy and painless, which was one of the reasons we chose it. I also like the low-cost affordability. The fact that I don't have to think much about management beyond the payroll each month is a big plus for me.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I would love direct integration with our payroll. The fact that I have to manually do it every month is kind of annoying. The fact that I can miss rate changes because it's not synced automatically bothers me. So I would love to see direct integration with our payroll system.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work allows us to provide competitive benefits to recruit in a hard-to-hire area and adds an additional benefit we can offer.

  ### 22. Very Helpful Support During My Transition Into a Leadership Role

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s an easy platform to use for our 401K provider. The team is helpful when questions come up, and the site is easy to navigate when I need to assist employees with questions or distributions.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dana C. | Office Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

  ### 26. 401(k) Service That Works Even for Truly Small Businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

My business consists of myself and two employees. Betterment at Work provides 401(k) and other services even for truly small businesses. And we received the same high level of service as larger companies including a dedicated onboarding contact, in-person meetings as needed, and a speedy process to roll out our 401(k).

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Onboarding was not fully self-service, as I had expected from experience with the personal side of Betterment. It required a contract to be signed and 2 or 3 weeks of processing period, notifying my employees, etc.
There was also an upfront fee alongside the annual fees.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work allows my small business to provide a 401k to my two employees and myself with little paperwork or ongoing compliance effort.

  ### 27. Super Easy to Use for Small Business Owners and Employees

It’s super easy to use as a small business owner as well as an employee using its services.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Sometimes I get notifications about things that need to be fixed but the instructions aren’t clear.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s our platform for our 401ks for employees. It’s a comprehensive program and helpful for everyone on both ends. I don’t have to have a great knowledge on how it works, I can send my employees to betterment confidently if they have questions that I cannot answer

  ### 28. Great software for retirement tracking and investment.

**Reviewed by:** Richard G. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment offers a great UI to see how much you're investing and where it's being invested. As an admin, I can also easily do the same with all employees.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I have not found any dislikes. I wish I would have gone directly through Betterment instead of using a 3rd party, but pleased overall.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is helping us to provide retirement benefits and a 401K matching program. We are a young company and this helps us provide a needed benefit.

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I use Betterment at Work as the 401k provider for my client, and I find them very easy to work with. The integration and switch to them were seamless, and they integrate well with Paylocity, the client's payroll provider. The platform is very easy to use on both the admin side and the employee side, which means we don't miss any changes for the employees when processing their new contributions. The initial setup was extremely easy too.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't dislike anything

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work because it integrates with Paylocity, handling the retirement plan options seamlessly. It's easy to use for both admin and employees, ensuring we don't miss changes or new contributions.

  ### 30. Helpful expert support and automated investing, but limited to the UK

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angella N. | Full stack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers free consultations with financial experts and has friendly, responsive customer support. It also gives me helpful insight into savings and crypto investing, which supports my long-term planning. On top of that, the platform automates investing, making it a reliable and efficient tool for me to use.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The only downside is that it isn’t available internationally, as it’s currently limited to users in the USA

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the name suggests, Betterment at Work helps individuals set aside money for retirement. Its automated investing features support long-term saving by steadily building funds and allowing users to earn returns over time. The platform also integrates with payroll systems, making contributions and overall fund management more convenient and efficient.

It also supports cryptocurrency investments, giving users another option for diversifying their portfolios. Because automation handles much of the process, investing feels more streamlined, which can help users grow their savings and manage their earnings more effectively over time.

  ### 31. Effortless 401(k) Setup with Strong Historical Returns

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like the ease of employees being able to select a plan, adjust their risk level, and also look at the historical performance of the plans. Betterment at Work provided a really easy implementation for a 401(k) for the first time, checking all the boxes for ease of use and integration with our payroll provider, Gusto. They are super open about historical returns, which isn’t easy to find, and their implementation process and support during the evaluation made it the easiest decision. The setup was extremely easy, and the onboarding team was super resourceful, helping with tax credits and answering questions on implementation, ensuring we were set up for success.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nondiscrimination testing is relatively cumbersome. An ideal scenario is that it's hooked up to our payroll provider, Gusto, and it runs automatically for us. I know that there's challenges with that because there's a ton of payroll administrators out there, but it just seems like that's kind of a pain. But I think that's probably with most 401k provider.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work provided easy 401(k) setup and integration with our payroll provider, Gusto. It's user-friendly for employees selecting plans and adjusting risk, plus they have transparent historical returns.

  ### 32. User-Friendly and Secure Retirement Planning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I use Betterment at Work for my employer's retirement plan, and I find it immensely user-friendly and easy to navigate, especially when I'm handling month-end close tasks as an accountant. The process of downloading reports is both fast and simple, which I really appreciate. As a 401k holder with Betterment at Work, I trust that my retirement funds are both safe and growing. What I like most about the platform is the ease of use; it's intuitive, and any information I might need is easily accessible. Additionally, I think the customer service is great.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

On the 'Payroll' tab, which shows each pay run's 401k deferrals to Betterment, I find it difficult because you can only navigate forward one page at a time. This is time-consuming when trying to go back to prior years since I have to click through many pages. Also, you cannot filter by time period on the 'Payroll' tab.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an accountant using Betterment at Work, it simplifies my month-end close with its user-friendly interface and fast report downloads. As a 401k holder, I trust my retirement funds are safe and growing.

  ### 33. Intuitive Retirement Management for Small Businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I appreciate that Betterment at Work offers a highly customizable and flexible option for our small company to have a 401k and Roth option. The process is very simple for a small company, and as someone who had never managed a 401k before, I feel confident with all aspects that go into managing it. The initial setup was pretty straightforward as they handled most of the onboarding for us.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

To no fault of its own, our payroll company charges us to connect with Betterment at Work for payroll uploads, so that part of the process I have to do manually. For our small team, it's not the biggest deal, but making the connection between payroll and Betterment easier would be helpful.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work offers a customizable, flexible 401k option that's simple to manage for our small company. Although our payroll company charges for connection, which I do manually, Betterment makes me confident in managing a 401k.

  ### 34. Betterment Keeps Getting Better: Great Support, Easy Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really like the support I get. My dedicated advisor is prompt with replies and knowledgeable. The interface is not as intuitive as I'd like, but I love that Betterment implements changes based on customer feedback. It keeps getting better & better. It's super convenient that it integrates with our payroll provider - making onboarding super simple & effortless for me. Overall, Betterment's performance is great!

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The interface is not as intuitive as I'd like. It's hard to know which reports to run when and for what.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment helps solve our goal of providing retirement & financial planning for our employees. Having it integrate with our payroll provider is just the best!

  ### 36. 401(k) that's Easy to Administer

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jenica F. | Director of People, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's easy to use, it integrates with our HRIS, and offers additional benefits that we can offer our employees, such as the ability to match student loan payments with a 401 (k) contribution and college savings plans.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't have any concerns with Betterment.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to offer a 401(k) to our employees (which helps attract and retain talent) while also being an HR department of 1 with limited manpower.

  ### 37. User-Friendly UI and Seamless Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew O. | Accounting Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It has a much better UI, website, and overall feel than a lot of other financial institutions. Its more user friendly and connects with our payroll system well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There have been a few issues on syncing employee data, the employee census was also difficult as a first year client.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is automating our 401k contributions and matching contributions, which benefits our team eliminating manual work and it has more accuracy.

  ### 38. Easy Setup, Effortless Compliance, and Great Value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt H. | Managing Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Very easy to use, set up was great, compliance is very easy and the cost is super low compared to any other provider we looked at.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The website is a little wonky..could have way better UX when you just want to check the accounts

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of offering a 401k and RothK option allows to have the same package that larger employers do, which is meaningful for attracting talent

  ### 39. Betterment Makes Employee Investing Simple and Stress-Free

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jenna B. | Executive Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment makes investing simple. As an employer, it takes the guess work out of enrolling my employees into an investment platform.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

My employees have stated that they don't like to be automatically enrolled and that they wish the percentage was lower than the requirements.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is constantly improving its communication and compliance. I appreciate that I receive consistent emails and information to keep my updated about my account.

  ### 40. Easy Setup, Flawless Integrations, and Great Ongoing Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Blake H. | Executive Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

For a small business it is easy to set it and forget it. The integrations are flawless. It was super easy to onboard with them, and the ongoing support is great.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

For some of my staff who are less tech savvy, it can be hard to get set up.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment fills a gap in the industry for small businesses and nonprofits to offer competitively priced services and benefits.

  ### 41. The 401(k) program from Betterment at Work is very simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tamara M. | Chief Marketing Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Before using Betterment at Work, our company did not offer a 401(k) plan which made it difficult to recruit and retain employees looking for employer sponsored retirement plans. Establishing a retirement plan for a small group of employees appeared to be overly complicated due to the compliance requirements and paperwork; however, using Betterment at Work’s system has allowed us to establish a 401(k) plan and allow our employees to begin saving for retirement rather than only allowing them to contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), which has higher contribution limits.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The fees appear to be too expensive for what is offered to a small business and there are too many things that you need to help with or be told what to do. The mobile application for the website is very poor. Also this may be petty, however, I think the selection of investments available through Betterment at Work is limited.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I really like how payroll integration helps by automatically sending contributions based on payroll so I don’t have to take the time to manually input each time and also I like how employees can go into their account and adjust their contribution amount as many times as they want without bothering me.

  ### 42. Effortless Setup, User-Friendly Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like the self-management aspect of Betterment at Work. Since we've rolled it out to about 200 employees, we don't really have any issues or follow-up questions from them. It's easy to self manage and user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

We've had some issues with follow through from customer service. Sometimes it feels like we're being passed from one group to another without clear communication on who we should be hearing from next.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We switched to Betterment at Work for a seamless and efficient platform transition for our 401(k). It's user-friendly and easy for self-management, with no issues or follow-ups from our 200 employees.

  ### 43. Seamless Payroll Integration with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I use Betterment at Work for the option it provides our team to use a tax-deferred retirement account. I like that it's fully integrated with payroll and easy to use. Additionally, the fees are reasonable, and it integrates seamlessly with Gusto, which was an advantage when switching from Vanguard.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I find they do not know how to offer profit-sharing plans. We couldn't get a cash balance plan from them. The onboarding wasn't easy at all; it took forever. I had different people talking to me every time, which was very frustrating. Also everytime you have a question or need support, it take forever to get an answer and they charge you for it.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to provide my team with tax-deferred retirement accounts. It's fully integrated with payroll, easy to use, and has reasonable fees.

  ### 44. Efficient Retirement Management, Needs Improved Reporting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Minnie G. | Tax Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work for its multi-access feature, allowing accountants and owners to manage things seamlessly. The reminder system is another aspect that works especially well, helping ensure important tasks aren't missed. The initial setup was good, which made transitioning to it pretty smooth.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Some of the reports I ran can be improved. The reports could be more specific, like having one designated for filing retirement tax credit, etc.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage 401k efficiently, solving the burden of retirement plan management. I like the multi-access feature for accountants and owners and appreciate the reminder system.

  ### 45. Decent Features but Frustrating Support Experience

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment's pricing is reasonable relative to competitors, and the investment selection is pretty good, allowing team members the ability to choose certain investment plans or create their own portfolio allocations.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Quite a lot, actually. The customer support is the biggest challenge. You can't get someone on the phone, so you always have to send them an email. We had a number of issues initially with setup and ongoing challenges around managing the 401k itself or problems with contributions that we need to sort out, and that's been difficult to troubleshoot. The platform is not as polished as others I've seen or used in the past. But the biggest frustration is the fact that there have been issues and then the customer support challenges.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment helps us enroll employees in our 401(k) and manage legal and tax compliance.

  ### 46. Automatic Deferral Sync + a Support Team That Knows Compliance

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

the Rippling integration, deferral elections sync automatically every payroll cycle, no extra work on my end

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Not much to complain about honestly. If I had to pick something — during onboarding, more guidance on timing the last deferral with the outgoing vendor would've helped. We had a gap in deferrals for the team during the transition that better sequencing could've avoided.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly it's making sure we offer a competitive, industry-standard benefit without a ton of overhead on my end. The distribution review/processing workflows are straightforward, easy to review requests and process them without a lot of back and forth.

  ### 47. A must have for small busy business owners

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam D. | CFO co-owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Up to date 401k softwares, helpful assistance, automatic payroll linking, significantly reduced form and other administrative tasks, and reduced possibility of mistakes

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

No negatives so far, although we do not have a dedicated investment coach or specialist, the plans are simple enough to enroll based on risk and target dates

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduces time spent performing management tasks and keeping up on compliance

  ### 48. Effortless 401(k) Management for Small Businesses

I like that it allows my employees to make changes easily to their 401(k) accounts. It's one of those applications where you can set it up and not have to worry about it. Additionally, the platform's initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work easy to use, simplifying decision-making for a small business owner. It allows my employees to easily manage their 401(k) accounts and is a low-maintenance solution.

Betterment is always on time. Giving out notifications with clear details, makes my bookkeeping work easier. Our company relies on Betterment at Work for 401(k) management. As the accountant responsible for bookkeeping, I appreciate how it automates 401(k) contribution tracking and reconciliations, drastically cutting my manual accounting workload. **What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The interface is very easy to use. Our employees have not had any issues using it.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The one time I have needed their support team, it took a while to hear back compared to other platforms.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We previously did not have a 401k, so Betterment is benefiting our employees by providing them with a great benefit option.
