## Betterment at Work Reviews
  ### 1. Straightforward Betterment Onboarding with a Smooth 401(k) Transition

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando V. | HR Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The onboarding experience was straightforward, and the transition from our previous 401(k) provider was well managed. Employees found it easy to claim their accounts, review their investments, and update their contribution elections. The Betterment team was also very responsive throughout the implementation process. As an administrator, I appreciate how simple it is to manage the plan while giving employees an easy-to-use platform for their retirement savings. The communication during implementation was clear, and the support team was quick to help whenever we needed assistance. The integration with Rippling was easy and user-friendly. AI report features increase performance in our HR team. And lastly the cost to our company is considerably lower than previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The transition required a fair amount of coordination, and there were a few areas where the documentation could have been clearer, particularly around payroll uploads for loan repayments and some of the plan configuration details. That said, the implementation team was responsive and helped us work through our questions.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment has given our employees a much more modern and intuitive experience for managing their retirement accounts. From an administrator perspective, it has streamlined our 401(k) management, and the implementation team helped make the transition from our previous provider as smooth as possible.

Before switching to Betterment, we were looking for a more modern and employee-friendly 401(k) platform that would simplify plan administration and improve the participant experience. Our previous provider required more manual processes and offered a less intuitive interface for employees.

Since implementing Betterment, we've been able to provide employees with a much easier way to enroll, manage their retirement accounts, update beneficiaries, review investment options, and adjust contribution elections. From the HR side, the implementation team guided us through the transition, coordinated the asset transfer, and was responsive whenever we had questions during setup.

While there was a learning curve during implementation, Betterment has given us a more streamlined retirement platform that is easier for employees to navigate and should reduce the amount of administrative support our team needs to provide over time. Overall, it has been a positive upgrade for both our employees and our People Operations team.

  ### 2. Low effort 401(k) administration that saves time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric R. | Revenue Operations Manager, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As the person who administers our 401k, what I value most is how little the platform gets in my way. Betterment handles the investments and default allocations, which is a real time-saver at a small company where I wear a lot of hats. Employee facing onboarding and tooling is good enough that most everyone can enroll without pinging me. The admin dashboard surfaces what I need for census and contribution tracking without a lot of digging, including plan docs that I routinely need to reference.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Plan-design flexibility is more limited. When I was evaluating a safe harbor change and thinking through ADP testing and top-heavy exposure, I wanted more built-in modeling and clearer guidance in-platform rather than having to work it out separately or with support. Reporting exports could also be more configurable. Support is generally responsive but can slow down on nuanced compliance questions that fall outside the standard playbook. Badly needs integration with my PEO, Deel.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives a lean Ops team a competitive retirement benefit without requiring a dedicated benefits admin or a separate advisor. The automation around enrollment and contributions removes recurring manual work, and offering a modern, low-friction 401(k) helps with recruiting a ton.

  ### 3. Streamlined 401k Management with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barbara B. | Controller / Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really like how easy Betterment at Work made it to set up my company's 401k account. It was cost-effective for our company to have the plan, and they handle the hard paperwork for us. When I need help, there is always someone to assist me, and the agent walked me through every step of setting it up. Betterment also works alongside Paychex and automatically gets the info directly, which is super convenient. The low cost and reputation of Betterment were also key factors for us, and I'd give them a recommendation score of 9.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I had an issue setting up an additional emergency account. I didn't know why it was happening and I had to contact support. That wasn't straightforward enough, but the solution was easy once a rep from Betterment explained it to me. It would have been faster if that was a little more straightforward.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work cost-effective for managing our company's 401k and they handle the hard paperwork. It's easy to set up, and customer support is always available to help.

  ### 4. Fair-Priced, Seamless 401(k) Platform That Simplifies Setup and Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob M. | Director of Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As an employer, Betterment at Work was a fantastic option from a price standpoint. It is a fair price to get our 401k platform set up and running. My favorite part is that it cuts out all of the crazy steps and fees that come with other 401k providers and provides a simple and seamless online platform to help with managing the 401k plan. Though we do not have an integrated payroll provider, the process of integrating is very easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The onboarding process was very simple initially. However, I did not like how difficult it was to get ahold of people with questions and support. Their response time was very slow as they help many clients. I also did not like how you dont have one set contact that helps with your account, rather a call center that you have to go through. Performance is mostly good but can be better especially when uploading larger payroll batches.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It save me a lot of administrative time by solving most of those problems for me. The platform is easy to use and so it save me a lot of time in the long run. A lot of the automated features help when it comes to administrative overhead that comes with managing a large 401k plan.

  ### 5. Flexible Employee Options, Easy for employees to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian E. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers a variety of investment options and loans for employees. It's beneficial as it allows employees to get a loan from their 401k and repay it through payroll deductions, which simplifies the process. I also appreciate the ability for customization for employees and the enhanced options for customization and loans compared to our previous provider, Guideline.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't like that the employees have to sign up themselves and sometimes they get lost when trying to sign up. The initial setup was also a bit hard, and we encountered difficulties because our contact was changed mid-process, which significantly delayed things.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work offers diverse investment options and loans, allowing employees to repay through payroll. It integrates well with accounting software and provides customization for employees.

  ### 6. Easy Payroll Processing, Clear Notifications, and Fast Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy M. | Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Website is easy and communication between employees and management/payroll is very good. Payroll is easy to upload and process by downloading a CSV file and entering data. Approving distributions and getting notifications are easy and clear as well.
Pricing was better than our old plan and employee options are greater as ell.
Support has been quick to repond to any questions, typically within hours and the same day.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Having access to a real person and having a phone number for contacting was the biggest dislike I have. All communication has been email or online support. Maybe I am old school but a real person connection has been my biggest dislike.
All communication with online and support has been quick response but I do miss that personal connection.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not have any problems.

  ### 7. Effortless Retirement Plan Administration with Betterment’s All-in-One Dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has made retirement plan administration much more efficient through automated payroll syncing, built-in fiduciary support, and an intuitive all-in-one dashboard. The platform reduces administrative work, simplifies compliance with automated testing and Form 5500 preparation, and helps minimize employer risk. Its reporting tools, and flexible plan design make it easier to manage retirement benefits while allowing HR teams to focus on more strategic priorities.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One of my biggest frustrations is the limited and unrefreshed employee education and self-service resources. Information on advanced retirement strategies and unsupported plan features is difficult to find, often requiring employees or administrators to contact support only to learn the feature is unavailable. I would also like to see more educational content explaining the value of contributing to a 401(k), even when an employer does not offer a matching contribution, to help employees make more informed retirement decisions.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work has simplified retirement plan administration by automating payroll integrations, reducing manual processes, and streamlining compliance. Its fiduciary services, automated testing, and centralized dashboard have lowered our administrative burden and reduced the risk associated with plan management. The platform also provides employees with easy access to retirement planning tools and financial guidance, allowing our HR team to spend less time answering routine questions and more time focusing on strategic initiatives.

  ### 8. Seamless 401(k) Management with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I love that Betterment at Work is easy to use and offers great customer service. I onboarded them specifically because they integrated well with our current tech stack (Rippling, Quickbooks) and gave us seamless monthly reporting.

That reporting is very robust, much better than other partners we'd worked with, and makes our monthly financial reports easy to handle.

The platform is also extremely user-friendly and provides great options for employee education.

The onboarding process was really smooth, really a high-quality offering. We had to migrate our entire employee base over (200+ people) and they did it on an accelerated timeline with no bumps. Additionally, their better fee structure, investment plan options, and reporting are significant improvements from our previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing; it's a great product from my perspective and I'm thrilled we onboarded them

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were having significant issues with reporting, client success, and issues with filings with previous providers. Betterment has solved each of those issues.
The account service is spectacular, and we're getting a better product for even less money . Its a more cost-effective plan, with better options for employee investments, and a more robust software platform with better reporting.

  ### 9. Effortless Payroll Integration, Minor Reporting Hiccups

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristi H. | Staff Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really appreciate how Betterment at Work functions smoothly with Rippling to handle payroll efficiently. Once an employee is set up, it's completely hands-off, which makes this task one thing I don't have to worry about when ensuring payroll runs smoothly and all the information flows correctly. I also like that employees have direct access and control over their own accounts without having to go through me. They can make changes, check their account balances, and work directly with Betterment, which removes the task from my plate. The initial setup was pretty straightforward and easy, which added to the positive experience.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Admin reporting is a little weird. You will eventually get there, but it isn't my favorite feature to work with. Actually show the reporting option. Having to select 'Run Report' seems backwards and goes against my instinct of where to actually find the options. As I am a Controller, I was asking my CFO for the reports as I didn't think I was given access. My screen always showed 'No reports to show'. She had to tell me how to run them before I realized I even had access to the reporting.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work integrates with Rippling for smooth payroll processing, making it hands-off once set up. Employees manage their own accounts, reducing my workload and ensuring better control over account activities.

  ### 10. Easy Setup but Needs Better Data Accuracy

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melanie B. | Human Resources Manager

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like that Betterment at Work allows employees to view their retirement accounts and get updates easily online, using their website or mobile app. Betterment's 360 integration makes my job as an HR team of one much easier. Additionally, Betterment was very easy to work with during the transition.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I found that some of the information was inaccurate, and their implementation wasn't complete. The inaccuracies were caused by data they pulled from an unknown source and it caused our compliance testing to fail. After doing an audit of my own, I discovered an employees demographics were loaded, but the remainder of the information was missing, and somehow the data below it shifted up, causing all rows below it to be wrong. It would be beneficial if Betterment at Work proactively checked and audited the information regularly. Specifically, the information transferred through the API should match what's displayed on the employee profiles and reports.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage retirement accounts. Employees can view their retirement easily online or with the app. Betterment's integration makes my HR tasks simpler.
