And then the downsides include the inability to restore data, the need for a local backup, and subscription issues. In terms of cost-effectiveness, it's an excellent product. It provides exceptional performance at a meager cost. Even if it has some drawbacks, you will quickly forget about them. There customer support is also very professional and available all the time. **What do you dislike about Azure StorSimple?** No doubt it has good cloud storage management, but some of the negative points include very slow data restoration, must need to have backup on local system, subscription issues as there is no option for shifting data to another user/account. There should be long term plans as it may cost us lower and more user can use Azure StorSimple. **Recommendations to others considering Azure StorSimple:** It really worth a try as it has very cheap pricing and excellent performance, it does have some of the negative points but you would ignore all when you use it. **What problems is Azure StorSimple solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using Azure StorSimple for large files backup on cloud storage, so it has very cheap pricing and we really love there services, they need to improve there performance while backup process as it takes longer time when it has been already uploaded. As we have numerous clients and need to focus on all aspects and they have access to all of our cloud storage virtually from any location, and it makes our business very easy. ### 13. This is also a very cost effective program that can be used like onedrive but with far more options. Primarily my company would use this as document storage and so things could be organized. **What do you dislike about Azure StorSimple?** It is difficult to transfer data once it has been added to azure storsimple. So, I would recommend having a backup of all the data used just to save you the hassle. **What problems is Azure StorSimple solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mostly we use storsimple to have access to widely used company documents. The setup and startup is simple and straight-forward. Backup and Restoration are done in just a few clicks with an existing Azure account. **What do you dislike about Azure StorSimple?** Restoration can be rather slow from Cloud recovery. Once a device is setup with an Azure subscription, it cannot be moved to another subscription. MAC users have issues with folder navigation with file shares on the device - it takes a very long time to browse an unexplored folder for the first time. **Recommendations to others considering Azure StorSimple:** The device has been rock-solid and a "no-brainer" decision when comparing to other disk-to-cloud backup solutions. **What problems is Azure StorSimple solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a better and cheaper backup solution for large file shares - especially non-critical data. ### 15. All of the management is done via the Azure portal and very rarely have we ever had the need to login directly to the controllers. I think the best part of this solution is the fact that you can easily setup backup and retention policies within the Azure interface. They're simple, intuitive, and easy to monitor once they've been set up. **What do you dislike about Azure StorSimple?** I dislike that you have to have downtime in order to upgrade the firmware on the disks. I think you should be able to just pull the trigger, controller 0 does its upgrade, fails over, and then controller 1 does its upgrade. Currently, the process involves manually plugging your laptop into each controller, running some commands via Powershell, and sitting there for two hours while the upgrade happens. Not fun. **Recommendations to others considering Azure StorSimple:** This is a solid solution that works really really well. The support team is phenomenal and knows the product really well. **What problems is Azure StorSimple solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use the StorSimple to manage our in-house file shares that serve the business. We also use it to house another copy of our Veeam backup data so that we have a repository on our ExaGrid as well as a copy on our StorSimple. ### 16. Once set up, data transfer to cloud performed well. And generally would recommend. **What do you dislike about Azure StorSimple?** but there are a few things lacking. One: 25TB limit on NFS shares. Not sure why this is in place, but it immediately invalidated the hardware for use in resolving a local storage issue. Two: You have to deploy a VM appliance to HOST a NFS share. Other products do this out of the gate. To get fault tolerance, you have to cluster the appliance in some fashion. Too many extra steps! Three: Dedupe and compression rates are not trackable via reporting features.
