Axolo Overview

What is Axolo?

Axolo is a bi-directional Slack & GitHub/GitLab integration. With Axolo, tech teams can collaborate on pull requests seamlessly. Each pull request creates a temporary Slack channel where all information (deployments, pull request checks, and code comments) will be shared. Axolo takes all of the normal back-and-forths on GitHub and Slack to centralize the conversation in ephemeral pull request channels. But this is only step 1! Features: 💭 An ephemeral Slack channel for each pull request: Axolo opens a Slack channel each time one of your collaborators opens a pull request. Only people that should be invited (reviewers & assignees) are invited. ⏰ PRs reminders: Set up Axolo to send daily reminders in stale PRs. 💻 A complete synch for code reviews: Each Github code review comment creates a new Slack thread. Then, the following comments from GitHub or Slack are sent to the other tool. 👀 High-level view on your team's PRs: With team-specific notifications, Axolo will send new pull request notifications in team channels and react upon the status of the PR (awaiting review, work in progress, mergeable, ...). 🤖 Approve pull requests with /lgtm: Developers can use /lgtm to approve a pull request directly in PR channels! 🏀 All your PRs are a command away: Ask /axolo open to show all open PR of your organization, /axolo me for your open PRs, and /axolo team [name of your team] to show all PRs from a specific team. 🕵️‍♂️ Organize your stand-ups with daily PR recap: You can set up Axolo to send daily PR recap to specific channels to organize your stand-ups. ⏳ Dedicated times for code review: Organize your time with code review time slots and let Axolo notify you only when you're available. Save your development sessions from distractions.

What do you like best about Axolo?

Axolo has transformed our GitHub pull request workflow with its seamless Slack integration. The platform excels at streamlining PR organization and review assignments, making our development process much more efficient. The integration between GitHub and Slack works flawlessly, ensuring our team stays informed and coordinated. The automatic notifications and clear visibility of PR status have significantly improved our team's productivity and communication. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

Initially, we faced some challenges in organizing PR reviewer assignments and establishing a structured review process. However, these early hurdles were overcome as we became more familiar with the platform's features and capabilities. While this wasn't a long-term issue, the learning curve for optimizing reviewer management could be slightly gentler for new teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

Axolo addresses several critical challenges in our development workflow. First, it solves the problem of PR visibility and tracking by centralizing all PR-related communications in Slack. This integration eliminates the need to constantly switch between GitHub and communication platforms. Second, it streamlines the reviewer assignment process, which was previously a pain point for our team. The automated notifications and clear status updates have significantly reduced PR review delays and improved our team's overall efficiency. Finally, it helps maintain a more organized and structured review process, ensuring that no PRs fall through the cracks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

I find it difficult to track GitHub in all of the noise of notifications -- emails, UI notifications, etc. Axolo simplifies this -- new channels created for each PR I'm added to, which shows up in the default section of Slack, so I always know if it's a new PR. Then, I can quickly jump into the PR for a deep review and then follow up conversations directly in Slack once I have context. I pretty much use it multiple times a day to do my work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

Ancient PRs that are closed sometimes don't automatically archive (ie. 6 + months old). I would like a way to specify a section for all my PR channels to go to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

All the noise of notifications goes away. I don't get GitHub emails anymore or little red dots in the UI, so I can focus on other things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

I've been getting eyes on my MRs so much quicker since starting to use Axolo and as an infrequent email checker, can easily see a Slack notification when I've been tagged in an MR. I absolutely love it! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

I don't love how I'm not sure if the people I'm tagging in my MRs are current users of Axolo. Although I can generally tell when I don't get feedback from someone for a day or two that they are likely not using Axolo.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

When working with developers, who often have their heads down and are laser focused on other tasks, it can be difficult to get eyes on code that I need reviewed. Often after waiting a day or two I'd have to tag all of my reviewers in a Slack message and poke them to get someone on my MR. Now that I'm using Axolo I'm confident they're getting the notifications without feeling like I'm being impatient or pestering anyone. Also much easier to read notes left via Axolo vs trying to locate in an MR. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

What do you dislike about Axolo?

There is not something that I don't like Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

In my team, we create at least 20 PRs per sprint. Since integrating Axolo, the review workflows have become much more streamlined and have followed a more natural order regarding communication within GitHub. This is because Axolo automatically synchronizes with Slack, making collaboration more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

I favorite feature is integrating github pull requests to respective slack channels where you can chat and discuss the PR without poluting the github PR conversations. it also sync and notifies about new messages from the PR to the respective channel. once the PR is merge, the channel is archived. pretty sweet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

So far I haven't gotten any issue worth noting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

The most seamless integration between slack and Github I've seen. I'm really impressed with how easy it is to capture slack discussion on the pull request so its not lost for posterity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

Not much I dislike about it. It might be nice if you could merge, etc from slack, but otherwise its an amazing product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

First of all, it keeps you up to date on your Github related work via Slack. So you don't miss PRs, etc. But the fact it also connects your slack and github conversations makes it really easy to use. So you don't lose those slack conversations about code, but instead they get captured to the history of the project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

Axolo speeds up the review process by getting rid of the phone tag we have when going back and forth with review comments. We have been using Axolo for well over a year and use it daily.

Our team mainly works in 2 different repositories on 2 different organizations (thanks to a company merger) and reviews on the one that didn't have axolo set up were way slower and took way more wrangling of reviews to actually do a review until we eventually got Axolo set up on both repositories.

The Axolo team has been very quick to respond anytime we near to reach out to them

There are 2 killer aspects to Axolo that set it apart when we did our initial survey of what was available.

1. It make a channel dedicated to the topic so you know where to go to discuss the changes. Which reduces the times where we have the same conversation in 2 different DMs with reviewers at the same time. And then those conversations are memorialized on github so you could reference them if needed instead of searching all of your slack messages

2. Inline comments making their own thread in Slack where that particular snippet is discussed really helps keep everything straight. and makes it so that you can actually participate in the conversation without having to open github to cross-reference. Having the snippet appear in the thread also really helps out Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

Non-inline comments don't start threads in github, but they can have threads in Slack, so those can make the github page look pretty messy because every Slack thread response become a solo comment in Github. I'm not sure how I would implement it differently though since that's more of a mismatch between Slack and Github than being Axolo's fault Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

Slow pull request reviews slow down time to getting firmware releases out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

I receive notifications even when a PR has a small change Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

Nothing, at least until now, i don't see any down side, it's even better than the official Github bot for slack since i don't need to leave Slack to comment anything, we can even approve a PR from the slack channel Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

Great integration between code review on github and slack channels Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Axolo?

Axolo improves greatly the collaboration between tech employees. It creates a frictionless experience between slack and github/gitlab. This soft spot between code review and usual communication is generaly a pain point in most entreprises. The bridge Axolo creates between the two helps me stay organized and focus.

Plus, thanks to the notification received at the end of each deploy I don't waste time by constantly checking github actions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Axolo?

The admin dashboard is kind of ugly.

Besides I think they could get inspiration from Google code review's tool to help developer organize their code review in some way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Axolo solving and how is that benefiting you?

- keeps very clear what branches are currentmy being worked on

- notify peers when branch is ready for code review

- improve experience for discussion around code review Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
