What problems is AWS Local Zones solving and how is that benefiting you?
For our application, there are users, who are from the Eastern region of the world, who access our application and its services hosted in the Western region. The services, for example - calculate and return the suitable options to the user based on their input and data available in the database- took quite some time to complete their operations successfully and show results to the users. Due to this, the wait time on the user's end was substantial and this became one of the reasons for users dropping off or closing the application.
After introducing the AWS local zones, we were able to reduce the turnaround time significantly, because the time-critical services were now hosted in the nearby servers. Hence, we observed an improvement in the drop rate.
This is not the only benefit we have achieved, the services or functionalities that are region-specific were deployed to the local servers, and we encountered drastic improvements in the deployment process and the risk of disrupting the other services/functionalities was also eliminated Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
