**Expensive, unreliable, and created more work than it eliminated**

Our experience with Avalara has been extremely poor. We worked with their team to configure everything according to their instructions, yet in two years they have not prepared a single return correctly. We have had to review, correct, and effectively redo every return they produced.

This was not an occasional mistake or a minor setup issue. It was a consistent failure across the entire relationship. We paid substantial fees for a managed compliance service, but still had to perform the work ourselves to prevent incorrect returns from being filed. Instead of reducing our workload and compliance risk, Avalara increased both.

The platform and service are also unnecessarily difficult to manage. Resolving problems requires significant follow-up, and even canceling a product requires navigating a formal support process and obtaining separate confirmation that billing will actually stop.

Tax compliance is a service where accuracy and reliability are fundamental. Based on our experience, Avalara delivered neither. After two years of incorrect work, repeated corrections, wasted time, and significant expense, I cannot recommend Avalara to other businesses. Carefully review every return they prepare, document every error, and do not assume that paying for managed filing means your returns are being handled correctly. I like that Avalara calculates our taxes accurately based on the region where we do business. I can access tax codes on its cloud website and make changes there that show up in NetSuite, so I don’t have to make those changes directly in NetSuite. I find it easy to generate reports and send them to tax authorities or agencies. The website is also a resource for updating tax codes and getting advice or recommendations. I love that Avalara files all our returns on our behalf. The portal is easy to user friendly. I love the tax calculator feature for when one-off questions come up, I can use the tax calculator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Avalara has improved a lot over the past 5 years. I can say that I don't currently have anything I dislike with Avalara.

I do want to request some kind of report that would show any of manual transactions done by my tax reviewer. Sometimes, we have to make manual adjustments to tax or we need to put an exemption in. The surrounding guidance after Avalara files our returns. Other than filing our returns we are assisted with any follow up form the state or jurisdictions about the return and where data has come from and why it was reported the way it was. At times the Avalara support can be inconsistent. There are some agents that can assist with almost any help needed and provide straight forward support which is inconsistent with other agents that can pass around your question it seems to get it off their plate. Avalara handles our sales tax calculations for our eCommerce store and also manages our tax returns, so our accountant doesn’t have to. This saves us many hours of work each month. As an admin, I find the platform very straightforward to manage and navigate. I also really like the Nexus tracking heat map, which shows when we’re getting close to needing to collect taxes in a specific region based on our sales. Their support is also very responsive. I like Avalara for the jurisdiction and document summary reports that are really helpful for month-end reporting. It's easy for us to send these reports to our outside sales tax consultant for returns, making the process smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I've had some trouble with Avalara when it comes to reconciliation between our ERP and Avalara. The incorrect process code for template imports was recommended by Avalara and this caused issues with overrides ion our repots vs the information we received on our results report. Using Avalara means no tax-related stress in my firm! They handle all of my taxes, from start to end. I started to use Avalara using the integration it has in my business ERP software (Odoo). Avalara real time integration with the invoicing made my sales team not to stress about invoices or taxes or handling exemptions! My taxes get filled up seamlessly as I operate my business. And I save a lot of money that I used to pay for Tax accountants in the past. Now my tax accountant focuses on other more important things to make my business more compliant, and more successful. Avalara filed some of our taxes correctly but missed several filings. They did nothing to help the situation. There was a bug with the shopify connector (their product) and we were stuck with the late fees. We made the decision to cancel due to their increasing fees, poor customer service, dated user experience and faulty product. In February,

when I canceled our contract with Avalara, they ignored me and continued to bill our account. They even withdrew ACH funds ($15,913.79) on April 14th. The most recent withdrawal is not confirmed to be paid to the states for our taxes. It appears they have kept the money. Their communication is incredibly poor. I requested an update to our contract and they neglected to send it to me. I canceled our service and they continued to bill me. I've resorted to charging back with Amex (won) and now reversing an ACH with our bank. Avalara doesn't give you access to remove your ACH payment info, avoid them completely.
