**Reviewed by:** Ofonime W. | Design Engineer, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2024

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault uses very secured levels of authentication (as configured by your organisation). Vault allows remote (gateways and vpns ), engineering data managment, tailored file acess, advanced purchase order mangement etc.
You dont need to worry about information leaks, clashes in design versions, design collaboration etc.
You can have a standard data-base built and manged in-house by the IT and engineering team.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault Setup and configuration requires expertise, some background in computer network, cloud and other computer administrative activities. You will struggle as a novice to set up a working server, especially in a complex working enviroment.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use vault Professional to author product development related projects.
One way it helped me, was that It made it very feasible to create and store iterations of my protyope.
The thin client aso ensured i can initiate data management via the web, as well as to share, and recive review fronm the client.

  ### 2. It's a PDM with centralized file management.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** SudhaRSHAN R. | Design Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Tracking the data and sharing file information like updating revision of files with permission for flexible engineering process. We can assign check-in and check-out to the file system for revision and corrections.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Due to central storage data management and the file storage backup issue raised so, we recommended high data storage hardware, and the initial cost is more expensive.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solved revision of file system without duplication and retrieving data automatically by centralized storage of files in a SAN/NAS storage.
Monitoring of file revision and their stages.

  ### 3. Solid cloudsharing with potential for integration access

What I like the best is that it helps design teams track work in progress and maintain version control in multi-user environments. Applications like this improves work as the industry advances.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

What I dislike is that I wish it were more user-friendly, but I do understand it could have its limitations if it becomes too easy. I don't see any beginner using this application.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You always want to have a way for the senior project manager to have reasonable control and organization in a project. Trust is a must for a good team, but a manager's software is always beneficial from the beginning to the end of a project.

  ### 6. Didn't care for it

**Reviewed by:** Robert W. | Assistant Engineering Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Fully integrated into Inventor. The "where used", "uses", and "copy design" are indispensable.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Sales literature and blogs NEVER detail which configuration is required to accomplish the suggested features. They assume everybody has the highest configuration.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

For vault to work effectively it must be fully implemented for all designs. It's an all or nothing approach. But once you implement it, you won't want to do anything else anyway. It work well for single user sites but is an absolute must for multi user collaboration.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Greatly simplifies the task of copying a complex design structure. Also makes it possible to find a specific part used in a specific location without having to actually open any files in inventor. This saves a tremendous amount of time.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Possibly the most random bit of software I've ever encountered!

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Look for a different solution to controlling your most important files

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly solving issues by checking stuff in and out repeatedly until it works!

  ### 13. Excellent for managing files and keeping track of file history

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Easy to use and keep track of files. I can see what team members are working on and have checked out so we aren't altering files at the same time. You can see the history of a file, a part or a drawing and go back to a previous version as well as make a copy of a design. Works well with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Mechanical.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

It crashes fairly often but also sometime files do not check out properly or cannot check in properly. Sometimes when trying to get or check out a file it will tell me the software is busy. I'm not sure if these are problems within the software of our particular installation with our server.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

If you aren't using Vault with Autodesk Inventor or Autodesk Mechnical to keep track of your files you should. You have the whole history of the file available to you to go back to if you need to and you have control to check a file our to keep from changes being made until you check the file back in. The ability to copy assemblies is extrememly helpful.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us manage our huge database of parts. We have over 30,000 parts in our database we are able to keep organized and Vault allows us to have version control of the file and its history. Being able to copy assemblies is one of the best features as you can copy and rename the parent and child files, subassemblies and drawings all within one window.

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Version control and other SharePoint-like file management functionality for design files is my favorite feature.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The setup and configuration is difficult, but worse is the process of updating. Keeping all of the desktop clients, the servers, and the connected systems all working together is the hardest part. Plan to staff a person to manage the overall system.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

It is a great tool, and huge potential advantages to "The Old Way" of managing design files but brings with it a unique set of frustrations.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Preventing our employees from storing files locally, and to eliminate the duplicates and versions of files stored within a network file share.

The customization of the product. Very powerful and helps our business stay organized. It have made us more efficient as a company.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The product is only as good as the administrator who sets it up. If your administrator is not literate in Vault then you will not have a good experience with it.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Have an expert give tutorials and customer support.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficiency, organization, and visibility of who has what.

  ### 21. a must have

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

it really does fulfill the name for any design company the most important data we have is our design and how and who can access the designs and vault will definitely do that for you
very user-friendly
the add-ins in other software like word or excel which makes this product for everything u want to save on your computer, not just designs and technical drawings

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

to be honest, I don't think there are any major problems with this Vault as it delivers all the thing and expectation I would expect from it but if I would improve something I would improve the search feature as there can be an advanced search so I can add the author or the date and so on
I would improve the access, for example, the should be different levels and so nit everyone can access everything
what would be really nice if there was a cloud that we can save the data in it and we can access it from every were

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

as i have mentioned before we needed something or a software that we can store all of our designs and documents and Vault have helped us in doing this as made it really simple and easy

  ### 22. Autodesk Vault Review

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Others are unable to access a file while another is working on it to prevent saving over files.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The vault often crashes and causes AutoCAD to run slower than without.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Never have more than 3 projects in the project tree at one time or the Vault will run slower than with less. The fewer projects you have in your tree the better the Vault will run.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With so many people in the company, using the Vault helps to prevent others from saving over others work unintentionally and to keep projects organized in one location.

  ### 23. Autodesk Vault

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mining & Metals | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Acts like a bridge in keeping our technical information visible, company wide. I particularly love how easy it is to share files to key members in my organization. Search engine is excellent in turning up results very quickly and accurately. Unlimited amount of configuration options in deciding what information I want to display/filter. Also, as an added bonus, I can export database information to external spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel quite easily for generating reports and analysis.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

My biggest complaint, along with my co-workers, would be performance issues. When loading complex models or very large files, crashes do tend to happen. This can be annoying at times when working under a tight deadline. Also, a fast and reliable network connection is definitely recommended.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

If you want to be able to share technical files consistently plant-wide and globally, Vault should be considered your top contender. The ease of use and the organization that it allows us to establish has been a major benefit to our organization.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have 3D modelers within our organization who are based out in India. Establishing a means of receiving models and sharing key technical information between our groups is essential. Also, we regularly communicate with supply chain, who use Vault as a tool in ordering parts. As a foundry, we send the 3D model of a particular part to our contracted 3D printing company (who produce sand printed moulds for us), and we are then able to manufacture a sound casting with an incredibly high degree of dimensional accuracy. Vault plays an integral part to our casting process.

  ### 24. Fantastic CAD data management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kenny C. | Technical Consultant, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault provides a one-stop solution for CAD data management that operates on standard Microsoft server software/hardware. The Vault solutions provide integration into a number of external packages and an API exists for hardcore developers to bring in new ties. Within the Autodesk software environments that we typically use, Vault has provided us with seamless data retention, security, and version control simultaneously.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The implementation and initial setup can be daunting. Your internal IT staff will likely be able to handle it if they are well rounded, but inexperienced admins and small departments may need to seek the support of their reseller or Autodesk directly for advanced implementation assistance. Personally, I am also not a huge fan of the fact that the software creates local copies of the data for your consumption; however, it does track the data against the database which alerts you if your local copy is out of date. I also don't care for the extra add-on costs for access to non-CAD employees.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

If you need CAD data management - this is the absolute best way to do it.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vault has been able to provide us with a wonderful version tracking system that alerts us about the status of design data. We are able to identify the single source of truth in the system and easily propagate that information downstream. Our firm has increased our design speed and productivity by utilizing Vault and not spending time chasing versions or wondering who has the file checked out.

  ### 25. Great way to keep files and projects organized

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathanial H. | Manager, Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Its a great way for everyone in our company to keep projects we are working on organized. It also gives us a safe place to store important working files (with cloud service.)

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

I think the UI would be a little more user friendly. It kind of reminds you of just using a basic file explorer.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

great asset for keeping working files organized, invaluable when a team is working on the same project and multiple people are accessing the same files.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is making file organization easier and, cutting down production time. We don't don't have to waste time searching through multiple servers looking for files we need, and everyone can have the same access, so we all stay on the same page.

  ### 26. Useful to share data and information

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aamir K. | Co-Founder Director at Decorade.in, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

You can share your data, files, drawings, information without worrying about the privacy of them (with cloud serice).

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

I have not disliked anything much but if to be precise I would love to see the navigation, UI reworked.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Extra research must be done but vault is something to seriously consider.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monitoring records and clients are simple at this point.

Review and Marking-up of documents are simple, snappy and without utilizing and other outsider programming.

  ### 27. Autodesk Vault Pro 2015

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris R. | Deputy Product Development Manager, Renewables & Environment, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Autodesk Vault provides us with a great level of document, drawing and part/assembly control. It's easy interface makes navigation and conducting tasks seamless. ECO control was a great addition to us and helps ensure the traceability of parts and assemblies. The subscription package ensures we always have the most up to date software and of course the level of help and support has been excellent from our software vendor and through Autodesk help centre.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

If I had to suggest an improvement on anything it would be Autodesk Vault web viewer, many of my colleagues use this in various departments, quality, goods inwards, inspection etc. The issue we have is that it's a bit tedious navigating around and locating exactly what you require.
I feel a lite version of the actual software would be much more beneficial to us, because the overall idea works so well it's imperative that multiple sectors within the business have access to the Vault purely for viewing information.
We have multiple vaults across our global sites, the connection of these doesn't seem possible which is something that would be beneficial to us.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving the possibility of drawing change, part deletion, and incorrect revisions of parts / assemblies being manufactured. This has helped us going forward with ECO control, ensuing that products are manufactured correctly first time around to the correct revision that a customer requires.
In terms of quality audits, Autodesk Vault has been a godsend, easily helping us to satisfy any audit requirements from ISO or supplier audits.
It has also helped us to collaborate a central location for our project files, previously documents and items were scattered in multiple locations, bringing that together certainly saves time and thus increases productivity.

  ### 28. Love how it connects different offices

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Florim K. | Project Manager, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

I appreciate the fact that Autodesk actually thought of a way of connecting their customers and help project get out the door faster. Its a very useful took to share information and data, including drawings and attachements through a very secure network which is something I do not need to worry about.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

I am not sure on how this program is marketed, but a lot of companies nowadays need something like the Vault. A lot of engineers, developers, contractors and architects are not aware of the existence of a program like this, I wish they would market this a lot more so I offices that have it do not have to do the marketing for a program we already use and love to convince our partners to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

I would recommend everyone to do their research and see if this the right program for their office. I would also suggest to watch a few tutorial videos as it will help with the speed of using the program.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has connected the famous 3. The architects, the engineers and contractors. Now there is a way to share all of our updates on any project and work together without having to schedule daily meetings. It has helped me get projects done on time and meet client deadlines,

  ### 29. Vault Administrator

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marius H. | Intermediate Mechanical Designer, Renewables & Environment, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

For Inventor users this is the best option for managing data, I would even use Vault If was just me working by myself without any collaboration. Best way to manage files for inventor. Copy Design is great tool to save time to make any changes.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

As a Tool to be used across the company with users that are not using any CAD software this is sometimes a hard sell. Managing other files can be a bit tricky and needs extra training.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

As a Design team using 90%+ time on Inventor this is the best product purely form a time saving and security point of view
As a Data Managing product across a whole company, using multiple different software, extra research must be done, but Vault should be something to consider.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Vault speeds up using inventor and cuts down on Design time of a whole team.
Security of Inventor files are assured due to SQL database.
Keeping track of files and users are easy.
Viewing and Markup of files are quick and easy without even using 3rd part software

  ### 30. Great product for keeping track of design documents

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2016

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

If you work as part of a team on shared design files, I can't imagine using anything but Vault. It's required software.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The interface is a little outdated. Would be good if a cloud based option was available.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Engineering design data is better organized. We can have a team of people access common design files without fear of overwriting other work or causing broken references.

  ### 31. Review of Autodesk Vault Data Storage and Management Utility

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault as a file storage system is excellent with lifecycle and revision control, you know your files are secure, checked and released at the correct time. My employer also uses ITEM lifecycle control to control both CAD and Non-CAD data. This replaced a previous access database that contained over 170,000 part records. Now all files and part records are stored in one place.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The ECO system and the Thin Client service are both quite poor. We had to pay Autodesk Consulting to code something specifically for us to allow us to use the ECO system and the Thin Client doesn't even show the ECO function within it, this is an important function for other areas of the business to see and they shouldn't require a full Vault to do so.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

I would recommend to others that they use Vault as their base of storage but consider the package as a starting point to be enhanced upon. This isn't an all-singing all dancing PLM without a bit of customization. However the functions that can be added are very impressive and the growth of add-ins being added all the time reflects this.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimum storage and file control. All engineering data is housed in one location. We have enhance the Vault using a few bespoke utilities so that we also have enhanced ECO functionality, automated PDF-ing and data exporting to our ERP system. All jobs that were manually completed and in different areas of the system. The use of windows authentication also helps limit the number of passwords and user accounts staff require.

  ### 32. Easy to use, Fantastic user interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul H. | Product and Porcess Manager, Mining & Metals, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

The Vault is a great tool for any company using Autodesk Inventor, after using the Vault for a couple of years it has become indispensable. The simple client interface combined the the add-in ribbons for Autodesk & MS office, make the use of a file management system easy and streamlined. The ability to check-in non CAD supporting documents and link them to our designs has become an essential part of our product definition. We now have multiple non-CAD users contributing to our database. We make frequent use of the copy design functionality to duplicate these product definitions, saving hundreds of hours when creating similar designs. Use of local AVFS file servers has eliminated connection speed issues from our multiple sites. Web access to you Vault when traveling offsite is a valuable feature for anyone that travels.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Recent releases of the Web client have improved accessibility, but the interface could still use some work or a proper mobile app/client needs to be created. Check in/check out functions sensitive to database connection issues, even small network blips can seem to derail the process.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Contract an experienced re-seller to create a implementation plan and perform the install. Starting off with an incorrect installation or structure could cause headaches in the future.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Management of multiple users across multiple sites has become much simpler. Accidental duplication or over-righting of work from other sites has been eliminated. We have seen substantial productivity increases from our CAD users.

  ### 39. Autodesk Vault

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles M. | Lead Mechanical Engineer, Oil & Energy, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Provides company wide visibility of technical information. Files are easily shareable. Current status is clear. Key word / file property search engine is fast and accurate. Database size is quite manageable. Product lifecycle workflow is configurable. Lots of options to configure how record information is displayed and filtered. Stable in a global user environment. It's possible to export information about files, items, or change orders to external spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel quite easily for generating reports and analysis.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

I have experienced some performance issues. Crashes occasionally while working with complex models / large file sizes. Difficult to use on slow network connections. Automatic email notifications for workflow events / milestones are fairly crude and can be difficult to understand. We have had some challenges integrating shared content from some Autodesk programs (Inventor Content Center, AutoCAD Electrical) into Vault.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

When implementing Autodesk Vault work closely with all aspects of your business to be sure you are taking full advantage of all the features it has to offer. File management is just the start. Plan to use the Item Master database and Change Order Workflow to automate many aspects of product lifecycle management. Get users involved in the workflows instead of relying on a central administrator.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing technical information consistently plant wide and globally. Product lifecycle management. Engineering change order management. Meeting ISO 9001 quality system requirements. Storage of historical engineering records. Communication between engineering and supply chain.

  ### 40. Vault has aided our design team in becoming more efficent and effective.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dustin F. | Design Supervisor, Machinery, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

The ability to collaborate with colleagues on a project. The ability to quickly find and reuse project information or parts. The ability to find old projects quickly with limited information. Being able to clean up projects and not worry about the consequences of renaming or moving a file. I like some of the tracking ability to see what parts are used where and what the history is of the parts.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

We have had issues while using Inventor's Tube and Pipe and getting things to easily check in. I don't like the smoothness of the ability to sync the latest designs with what is in the vault.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Don't worry to much about the organization in vault things can be moved and renamed easily. It will save you a lot of time you don't realize you are spending looking for the designs you use day to day.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reducing cost of repeat projects. Reducing turn around time of projects by allowing searching and collaboration of team members. We are able to reduce printing and costly markups by using the viewer with vault.

  ### 41. Design File Management and Check In/Check Out Control was made so much easier with Autodesk Vault.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris D. | Electrical Technician/IT Manager, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

The ability to easily manage lots of design files among multiple designers at the same time on the same project has greatly increased my company's efficiency and productivity. The built-In workflows that allow managers and tiers of designers to follow the correct flow path of drawing/model creation help minimize mistakes and keep unapproved changes from occurring with our projects.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

Sometimes performance can vary depending on your server hardware and internal network configuration but Autodesk Resellers have been helpful in correcting some of those issues. Autodesk has also been helpful with creating service packs and hotfixes to improve or fix performance issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Autodesk Vault is a great tool for improving File Management, Collaboration, Quality Control and Engineering processes. It's honestly not hard to use once implemented but I feel that it does take a lot of playing around with it to understand how it works and how it can help you with your needs. Once you get past that first learning curve and learn how vault thinks and the relationships between the linked files within, you will have no problem administering this software. In my opinion, it's impossible to use Autodesk Design Software without Autodesk Vault without having major design, collaboration and quality issues. You won't regret giving Autodesk Vault a try. Once installed, it can be used within hours after it is up and running. However, keep in mind that you may want to solicit some help from your reseller on setting up a Project File for Autodesk Inventor and your other Autodesk Products to use which determines the Vault folder structure locations and templates of files to use for your design.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I took over the IT management at my small engineering company, we were just entering the 3D design world and did not have a central file management system. This created terrible design practices and made collaboration using the same design files almost impossible. With Autodesk Vault, we have solved many design practice issues, quality issues on both engineering and production sides of the company and improved our design control of drawings significantly.

  ### 42. Elec Design Engineers Review of Vault

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

It's reliability and is easy to use. It keeps improving and adding new features

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

when using item masters you now have to open before you can edit them.
On/Off BOM rows - I don't see the point of then would provide more problems than it solves.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Use it as much as possible as there's a lot of features

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vault stores all my files and BOMs correctly without corruption

  ### 43. User to Self-Taught Administrator: Basic version might be enough for your group

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Product Line Engineer, Machinery, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault is very easy to use. After reading a few install documents I was able to set up Vault on a local server and train my colleagues on it's use. It greatly helped in coordinating our engineering functions on several projects and kept pesky file management conflicts to a minimum. My favorite feature is that Vault allows you to work off your local machine instead of the network via your own personal "Workspace". Once files are checked out to you, they are saved to your local machine and you are free to work on them until you check them back in to the network server. This will greatly speed up your workflow.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The Basic version is very limited in it's capabilities: no revision control, customization, etc. but is still quite capable of controlling your engineering data. You'll have to upgrade (re: more $$) to get those higher-level functions. I haven't used the higher level versions of Vault so I can't speak for how they compare with other top-of-the-line PLM software packages.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

If you're looking for a good entry-level PLM software package that is easy to use and also very easy to implement compared to it's competitors, I would give Vault a serious look. The Basic version doesn't have all the bells & whistles that the high-level versions do but it will give you enough to get started with the basic tenants of document management. And that's certainly better than none at all!

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vault allowed our business to get all our engineering data in one place and have it controlled via it's check-in/check-out process. This allowed for iterative version control, file-conflict avoidance and increased productivity on many simultaneous projects.

  ### 44. Autodesk Vault for Revit

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roy N. | Technical Specialist, Construction, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

The ease of adding Revit content, managing, distributing and visualising of the project generated content to multiple locations. The number of data formats supported, this format support feature is quite dependant upon using the Pro version, we are using the basic version on some modelling projects but for the most part the Pro version is our preference going forwards.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The version dependency. I'd like to see a consistent main ADMS package but with different plugins for the design applications. I have multiple servers and hundreds of seats of design software to manage, the version dependence makes upgrading to new versions logistically difficult and time consuming. I use Revit Server to manage and distribute Revit collaborative models, I'd love to see this feature added to Vault to make a very, very useful Project EDM package.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Speak with someone who has experience in implementing Vault, especially Autodesk or a reputable reseller. This is valuable pre installation information will help to ensure common start-up problems are averted when planning and executing the implementation of vault.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a major challenge collating Revit content generated on dozens of BIM projects. We had no way of controlling or capturing this important design data and so looked to the market to see what was available. We tested an number of applications but decided on Vault due to its wide compatibility with modelling and design packages. A major issue was the lack of control over the quality of project content, before Vault we relied upon emailing and general distribution via server based folder structure for projects. With Vault we control, capture and distribute project critical content adding in application loading capability directly into Revit. The ability to search, visualise and choose the correct content directly from this fully managed resource is invaluable.

  ### 45. Great product.... once configured

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike T. | Technical Services Manager, Machinery, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault requires very little administration once it is setup and configured.... set it and forget it! The initial installation and configuration is very straight forward and Autodesk provides many great documents to get you up and started quickly. The client side UI is also very MS Outllookish meaning people take to it quickly.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

There are areas of the configuration limited. For example email notifications cannot be configured, meaning you are stuck with the canned out-of-the-box template which is very poor.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Before using insure to do proper configuration and testing, as you should with all PDM software

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data was scattered, disorganized, and we were in a last-save-wins situation. Vault has brought all our engineering data under one umbrella in a controlled environment. It is easier to find documents and files now, we don't lose files, and if a file gets updated incorrectly we can fall back on a previous version.

As we are using Vault Professional we can quickly convert the CAD drawings with Bill of Materials into items in the item master. We manage lifecycles on the items (i.e. In Review, Released, Work in Progress, etc) meaning downstream users only see the data when engineering approves it. This has lead to less mistakes as the shop floor is using the correct version / revision of the prints. We have also connected Vault to our ERP, "pushing" the item data into the ERP for planning and manufacturing.

  ### 46. Not the Easiest End User Experience, but Effective

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark S. | Mechanical Engineer, Mining & Metals, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

It is a clean interface to index drawings. I have worked in environments where drawings are just stored on a network drive, in a folder, etc. Revisions are always a problems. Someone usually sneaks in and makes changes even though they are not on the design team. The list of problems goes on. Vault gives you the control to index what is done, by whom, and also the ability to control those things. It is very handy.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The in-software (Inventor/AutoCAD) access was not great. When problems occurred, there was little fixing them myself. I almost always had to have someone with higher privileges address them.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

It is best to have an in house expert/admin who knows the software well. That person should, if possible, be an end user as well, ie an engineer not an IT person.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vault (esp Pro) guaranteed accurate documentation and provided a detailed history.

  ### 47. Former CAD Manager Supporting multiple locations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg P. | Technical Analyst, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

This tool helped us manage our cad files which prior to that vault was a dangerous area. Prior to using the vault we had a new user copy an assembly and modify all the parts not realizing they we modifying their co-workers assembly that had been released to manufacturing the next day. Needless to say Vault solves this and similar problems by cleanly allowing design copies and ensuring all related parts are also copied if needed. Even if a user makes a mistake and still changes others parts this can be undone.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

With any tool that allows a lot of workflow possibilities it is important to really get a consistent approach to how you manage the tool and make sure all users have the proper training. Otherwise they can create some problems for you.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Research the product offerings. The basic tool provides a lot of good starting point functionality, but depending on your complexity it can be worth the money to look at higher levels. We stayed with Autodesk products to keep things simple and generally had really good results, but we also built a good relationship with out reseller for big roll-out projects. That coupled with my decade of experience with Autodesk Inventor helped keep things going smoothly.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As noted above this tool helped us with basic file management. We ultimately invested in the higher level products to support multiple locations. Very cool tools that allow collaboration from anywhere.

  ### 48. Autodesk Vault

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary B. | PDM/CAD Administrator, Automotive, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Vault is best suited for managing Autodesk CAD data products such as Inventor or AutoCAD. The revision control and check-in/check-out features are key to managing drawings.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The Change Order process inside Vault Pro could be more flexible as far as setting up the various Change Order states. Currently you are stuck with what Autodesk has configured out of the box.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

If you are leaning more towards PLM vs PDM keep in mind that Vault is more suited to managing CAD data vs a full blown PLM solution.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are heading towards Vault being the single source for drawings. This ensures that the latest drawing is available for viewing.

  ### 49. Autodesk Vault Review

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan K. | Research and Development Engineering Manager, NPI Engineering Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

Great data management tool if AutoCAD and Inventor are the only programs that you currently use for Design. The seamless transition between the programs and the vault are perfect and reduced the need for larger more robust data management programs.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

There is not a lot of ease of use with outside programs, Solidworks, Pro-E, Catia, etc. If the design teams in different locations use different programs, the vault really cannot handle the outside files very well, in more of a capacity than just storage. Previews and use on the vault are almost unachievable. The better option would be to go with a more robust software if multiple programs are used for design.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Not for use with outside Autodesk programs

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data management and collection of currently designed products.

  ### 50. Autodesk Vault: A better PDM

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2015

**What do you like best about Autodesk Vault?**

There are many PDM tools on the market with many different features and capabilities. I have had a lot of experience with many of these different tools. Autodesk Vault hands down has the friendliest UI experience for the end-user, allowing them to easily manage data across multiple users (Check In & Check Out), while also displaying meaningful meta data, and lifecyle information in a way that is understandable even by the novice user. There are also many value add tools for administrators that are not included in other packages. Things that include but are not limited to: Filestore and Database replication for Multi-Site support, built in Backup and restore capabilities, Easy to understand Management Console with Logs and important system information. Autodesk does a fantastic job of providing products that are quick to implement and provide companies with outstanding ROI and Vault is no exception.

**What do you dislike about Autodesk Vault?**

The only dislike that I can mention about Autodesk Vault would be its limited workflow capability. This is a somewhat obsolete argument or requirement of the product however. The results customers are often times looking for with this extended workflow capability are surpassed with an integration to Autodesk PLM 360 which handles Business Process (PLM) far better than your typical PDM tools.

**Recommendations to others considering Autodesk Vault:**

Do your homework when looking for a PDM tool. Do not just use what is suggested to you by your CAD VAR. Many PDM tools try to do too much and have become over complex trying to stretch themselves into PLM tools that the whole company can use. PDM is not PLM. Get the tool that is the right fit and evaluate at least a handful of options before making a decision.

**What problems is Autodesk Vault solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a Business Process Consultant and meet customers with different needs and problems to be solved everyday. When it comes to Vault we often solve the issues engineering departments have with data being everywhere; desktops, network drives, spread across different networks inside the organization. Vault allows us to get the data into a single repository where everyone know where and how to access important engineering information.
