I use Loom for screen recording, and it helps me easily record my screen. The video editing is pretty neat, and the options to pause, play, and record the video are very user-friendly. Sharing videos asynchronously with colleagues and customers is convenient because I don't need to get into meetings to show them issues or help with features. The editing is also pretty easy, allowing us to shorten or trim videos. I find the AI features, like removing silences or filler words, pretty valuable. Loom is quick, easy, and has a good bunch of features. It's very user-friendly, with a good UI and a nice, fresh, modern UX. Trimming the video and then like deleting or removing some part, it doesn't mention a spot, doesn't have a spotlight. Like when I'm clicking somewhere, it should just focus the recording to that portion of the screen. It doesn't have, like, AI voiceovers, which new competitors have. I use Loom for recording videos of tools and software, and it's quite easy to use. It saves lots of time as I don't have to record and upload videos to Google Drive each time. Instead, I just record my screen and share the URL. The ease of use is what I like most about Loom. Loom is quite handy to use—I just use the browser extension, hit the record button, and after recording, I share the link. Well, sometimes I face some bugs, like the extension does not work properly. Audio cuts off and I only get to know that after the recording has been completed. This is one of the drawbacks. I like the simplicity and speed of creating and sharing video content with Loom. As a professor, I appreciate how quickly I can record a screen walkthrough with voice and share it instantly with my students, without needing complex setups or editing. It's very efficient for explaining concepts, demonstrating code, or providing quick clarifications. I also value the asynchronous communication Loom enables, allowing students to watch videos at their own pace by pausing, rewinding, and revisiting them, which significantly improves their understanding. I like the combination of screen recording, voice, and optional webcam features, making the explanation more engaging and personal compared to plain text or slides. What do you dislike about Loom? There are a few things that don't work well with Loom for me. One limitation is the editing functionality, which is pretty basic. While basic trimming is available, more advanced editing features like annotations, step highlights, or detailed video structuring would be helpful, especially for explaining complex machine learning concepts or code walkthroughs. Another area is content organization. As the number of videos grows over time, managing and structuring them efficiently can become challenging, so better categorization, tagging, or folder management would improve its usability for academic purposes. I've also noticed video quality and performance can vary depending on network conditions, which might affect students with limited bandwidth. Additionally, while Loom is great for quick recordings, it is less suited for highly polished lecture content where more professional editing or customization might be required.
