## About Atlan
Atlan is the context layer for enterprise AI. It continuously reads your warehouses, databases, pipelines, BI tools, and business systems to reverse construct an enterprise data graph that captures assets, lineage, entities, metrics, policies, and relationships. On top of that graph, it enriches and curates machine-readable semantics — descriptions, popular joins, KPI and metric definitions, ontologies, and business rules — and organizes them into governed, versioned context repos: bounded bundles of context that reflect how your company defines key concepts and makes decisions. These context repos are then exposed through open interfaces (SQL, APIs, SDKs, OSI/MCP-style protocols) so that agents, copilots, and AI applications can call the same trusted context in real time, rather than each team hard-coding its own logic. Human-on-the-loop governance workflows for conflict resolution, deprecation, feedback, and certification keep that context trustworthy as the business, data, and models evolve.

## Atlan Reviews
 ### 1. Intuitive, User-Friendly Data Catalog That Makes Finding Datasets Easy

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akash A. | Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

What I like most about Atlan is how intuitive and userfriendly it feels. I didn’t have to spend much time learning the tool the interface is clean, and locating the datasets I need is very straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

One thing I don’t like about Atlan is that it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially if you’re new to data governance or catalog tools. It offers a lot of features, and it takes some time to get familiar with everything and understand how to use those features effectively.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem Atlan solves for me is data discovery and trust. Before using it, it was often hard to find the right dataset, understand what it actually meant, and feel confident that it was reliable. A lot of time used to be spent asking different teams for context or manually verifying data sources.

 ### 2. Outstanding AI Features, Easy UI, and a Truly Responsive Atlan Team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

We value the strong partnership with Atlan's Product and Engineering Teams, their innovative roadmap and the ease of the UI. The team is highly responsive, open to feedback, and willing to collaborate with us to deliver new capabilities we want. We have regular and easy communication with Atlan employees. Atlan's new AI features are outstanding, built on their extensible and easy integrations.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Mostly we are very happy but one feedback would be the focus on innovation can often come at the expense of prior features and fundamental needs that make the support and maintenance easier. Atlan does have some features that don't get much attention and would benefit from better defined roadmaps.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data Quality features embedded in the data catalogue. The new Context Agents Studio is amazing and will scale enrichment incredibly fast but with quality. Overall they allow us to maintain a very small data Governance team.

 ### 3. Helpful UI, Flexible Data Model, and Great API

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan's data model flexibility stands out as the most valuable aspect of the product for our team. The ability to customize asset metadata and extend the data model to fit our organization's unique workflows — and then maintain that customization programmatically via their API — has made it a genuinely useful hub for our data stack, not just a static catalog. The UI is clean and intuitive enough that data scientists, analysts, and engineers can all find value in it without heavy onboarding.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The catalog of available data connectors covers most of our data stack, but some of our BI tooling still isn’t supported. Also, in some cases the UI doesn’t reflect back-end changes quickly, so after certain operations the catalog can feel sluggish until changes fully sync and propagate.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan addresses the core challenge of data discoverability in a large, complex data environment. Without a catalog, it's easy for data assets to become siloed and undocumented, slowing down the work of analysts, data scientists, and engineers who need to find and trust the data they're working with. Atlan gives our team a central place to discover, document, and understand our data assets which reduces time spent hunting for the right table or dataset and improving confidence in the data being used.

 ### 4. Agile, Fast-Moving Startup Vibes—But Needs Stronger Testing

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

It have a good startup vibes with a break fat and move fast approach. The organisation is very agile and adaptive to the industry trends.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The are moving so fat that you don't get time to settle up. Testing is very poor.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are cataloging metadata of the difference data sources that a customer have. But recently they have shifted there focus from data cataloging to AI based remediation and RCA as they already have a huge amount of client's data sources metadata which can assist in a RCA of any issue

 ### 5. Great Lineage and Data Cataloging with Easy Integrations but slow

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

 ### 6. Transforms Data Collaboration with Ease and Efficiency

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

What I appreciate most about Atlan is how it transforms working with data into a truly collaborative and seamless experience. By bringing together people, data, and context in a single platform, it enables teams to genuinely understand and trust their data. I find it incredibly easy to locate what I need, document my work, and maintain organization without the usual confusion. Atlan is clearly designed to make data serve people, rather than forcing people to adapt to data. Its smooth integration with modern tools allows teams to work more efficiently, and it makes the entire data process feel more human, transparent, and enjoyable.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

One aspect I find challenging about Atlan is that it can sometimes feel overwhelming due to the sheer number of features and configuration options. For newcomers, the learning curve is quite steep before you can fully appreciate its value. There are also times when performance slows down, especially when handling very large datasets or complex integrations. Additionally, I would appreciate more flexibility in some customization options to better accommodate specific team workflows. However, these concerns are relatively minor compared to the overall experience—once you become familiar with the platform, Atlan proves to be both powerful and enjoyable to use.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan addresses one of the most significant challenges in the data world: the lack of visibility, collaboration, and trust in data. By bringing together scattered data assets, documentation, and context into a single, unified workspace, it becomes much easier to discover, understand, and confidently use data without wasting time searching or doubting its accuracy. Personally, Atlan has made collaboration across teams more efficient, reduced reliance on individual expertise, and enhanced overall data quality. It has also simplified onboarding for new team members and sped up decision-making by ensuring everyone has clear and reliable access to the right data when they need it.

 ### 15. Atlan for modern data management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arijit S. | Chief Technology Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Our experience with Atlan has been exceptionally positive, from initial exploration and technical evaluation to implementation and ongoing operational support. We included Atlan as part of our data infrastructure due to its intuitive user interface, robust product features, and forward-looking vision. Atlan's compatibility with the rest of our modern data stack (Snowflake, dbt, Sigma Computing) and other enterprise tools such as Slack, Google Workspace, and Chrome was a key factor, too. The Atlan team provided ample opportunity to carry out a Proof of Concept (POC) and Proof of Value (POV), which included live demonstrations of functionalities to the various data stakeholders. Additionally, Atlan's pricing and support model were both reasonable and adaptable.

Setting up the platform was swift, with a few hours of onboarding calls spread over a week. We could quickly run scans on our Snowflake instance and set up integrations with other platforms like dbt. Later, when support for Sigma Computing was introduced, we could integrate the same on our own. Features such as web search of metadata and detailed column-level lineage for root cause and impact analysis were an instant hit with our data power users.

The Atlan customer success team was meticulous in providing us with the necessary support to improve the adoption and engagement on the platform. They consistently strive to understand our specific use cases, deliverables, and business outcomes to provide optimal support. We appreciate how the Atlan team has supported us so far with active metadata management and helping improve the governance of our data and machine learning products.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

A strong product roadmap backs the vision, but the communication regarding the upcoming features and releases can be better. The concepts of Personas and Purpose overlap, and explaining them to most stakeholders is difficult.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping find information about data is easier in a self service way that reduces dependency on data engineers and helps them focus on writing code. The lineage helps during impact analysis and troubleshooting. Establishing a better data governance is easier with a tool like ATlan.

 ### 16. Gratitude towards Atlan

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Param S. | Data Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Its user friendly data catalog and it is very supportive and collaborative.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Limited customization for UI components.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ensuring good quality data.

 ### 17. Using Atlan for Data tagging/Classification

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aikande M. | Director - Data Governance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

The ability to apply definitions and tags for almost any data asset is useful, especially the feature to attach existing documentation as a resource. Great search feature, and ability to propagate tags downstream from objects.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The UI is sometimes difficult to navigate, and there are some screens that may be more suitable to view as a table. There's also sometimes a steep learning curve to go from basic read-only use (or single asset management), to enabling mass-tagging/documentation efforts.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan is supporting our initiative to tag and classify all sensitive data in our source system and downstream applications. Being able to propagate tags and view lineage has been really useful.

 ### 18. Easy data asset visibility and cataloguing for compliance needs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristian H. | Staff Security Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan is easy to implement and integrate with existing systems. It can ingest data schemas from various systems and provides a clean user interface to add metadata such as tags. Atlan enables data and compliance teams to easily identify ownership, and sensitive or private data objects.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The Atlan supplied tooling to ingest schema from PostgreSQL databases could use some dependency management as many of the dependencies contained vulnerabilities at the time of use. This tool was also only available for download by requesting a link and not available as a container image enabling automated updates.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a fairly complex data ecosystem, and it can be difficult to keep track of what data is stored where. Atlan makes it much easier to catalog, search for, and classify information across our organization; enabling our data governance and compliance goals.

 ### 19. The simple to use and integrate data catalog for your data lineage and management needs

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dale P. | Director of Data, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

With Atlan we are able to connect across a breadth of systems that we rely upon to easily see where our data resides and identify which teams manage it. Connecting to systems was fairly straightforward and it has made searching for data artifacts much easier. This has helped in onboarding new data team members. Multiple new hires have commented on how simple it is to use and they frequently reqly upon it as a key tool in their toolbox. It has also assisted in bringing more of the organization into leveraging data more effectively.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

No really strong downsides to the product. Like many products Atlan tries to encourage a degree of product lock in but they are still open enough to allow for documentation and management to live in other tooling.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Where does our data sit at rest and what data models/artifacts are available to use in product analytics and other use cases.

 ### 20. Easy, Breezy, Data Governance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Having used other tools in this space Atlan has a much better administrative and user experience than other tools.
•It was easy to set up and integrate with our tech stack.
•Navigating it feels intuitive which is critical to a metadata management system you need to put in front of multiple user personas.

They are also developing at a rapid pace which features getting releases each week and an eagerness to hear/respond to feedback. Some of the newer features aren't perfect but they are generally equiavalent to competitors and at the pace of development I see they pulling ahead.

Support has been great - we actually get responses from people that want to help instead of it going into a black hole.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Would like to see usage reporting built into the product to help tell the story on its value and ensure we are positively driving adoption. Right now this is only available from a 3rd party source which wasn't mentioned to us and we'd have to get approval to use.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its integrating metadata from multiple systems and exposing it to our users in a easy to consume way so its organized, Discoverable and trusted.

 ### 21. Atlan: Best-in-class data catalog with customer-centric product development & services

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

1. End-to-end view of data lineage across our whole data lifecycle: Atlan perfectly integrates with large parts of our tool stack (Snowflake, DBT, Tableau, Salesforce, Fivetran), which gives us great transparency into our data flows & structures. Especially being able to identify & export dependencies have been pivotal for our data incident management and requirements analyses for changes in our data structure. In order to paint a full picture of our tool landscape, we would love to see additional integrations being published for rETL tools like Hightouch, data quality tools like Metaplane or additional CRMs like Hubspot & Zendesk.

2. Outstanding support from our CSM & Customer Support team: Our CSM serves as a trusted advisor when it comes to the overall architecture of the tool and general data governance best practices. His level of support & commitment for us to get the most value out of the tool is far above the average SaaS CSM support. For instance, our CSM introduced us to a dedicated internal Data Governance Consultant, who took multiple hours of time to share his experience and advise us on how to effectively implement data governance at our organisation.
Likewise, the Customer Support team exhibit impressive technical understanding & structured problem solving, providing us with very timely and deep analyses of any issues coming up.

3. Great pace of delivery for new features: Atlan regularly publishes highly relevant new product features at a fast pace. Very regularly, if we provide feedback around missing or non-optimal functionalities, it turns out that the respective feature is already on the roadmap and might even be released within the next couple of weeks. It has become very apparent that the product strategy is very much centered around customer feedback & pain points, which we appreciate a lot.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

1. Workflows/Playbooks: Atlan offers the Playbook functionality to automate metadata population, data owner assignments, tag assignments, etc. While this functionality has proven very useful already, I would love for the automation engine to become more powerful. Top features on our wish list would be event-based triggers, more effective approval processes, metadata propagation across lineage and outbound API call functionalities.

2. Pricing: While the Atlan team has been ensuring that pricing should not be a blocker for our data governance efforts, the list prices for connectors and member licenses are fairly high compared to other SaaS tools and only economical at high discounts.

3. Bugs: While Atlan publishes new features at a very strong pace, there are somewhat regular cases where features do not work as expected and need to be fixed by the engineering team. It's worth calling out that in those cases, the fixes are implemented very quickly as well, though!

4. Permission management: The general permission management based on Personas & Purposes is somewhat too complex compared to other SaaS tools and not very user-friendly. We would love for our users to immediately see all metadata and assets that they have access to rather than having to switch between personas & purposes.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, we're very satisfied with Atlan and our collaboration with them. Atlan is a game changer for our data governance & data management efforts, especially for collaboration within our centralised data team.

Atlan enables us to effectively share knowledge both within our data team and with external stakeholders by serving as a source of truth for our most important term & metric definitions. Terms & metrics can be easily & extensively documented in the Glossary including descriptions, in-depth ReadMes, custom metadata and external documentation (e.g. Confluence). It's also very helpful to be able to link these terms to suitable dashboards and tables to indicate where the source of truth for the respective term or metric comes from.

We're also using Atlan for the documentation of our Snowflake tables. While some documentation has already been included in our DBT models directly, this documentation is not easily accessible for stakeholders or downstream consumers of the data (e.g. analysts). Using Atlan, we can democratise this documentation automatically by pulling the respective descriptions from DBT directly and populating them in Atlan. Using Atlans powerful API, we're also working on loading ReadMes from our directory directly, such that documentation for data engineers becomes easy to populate and consumable by stakeholders at the same time.

Atlan is proving to be highly effective to analyse up- & downstream dependencies of tables, data products and dashboards, significantly reducing communication efforts. For instance, exporting downstream dependencies for impact analysis and analysing upstream dependencies for root cause analysis in Atlan have become an integral part of our data incident management process. Being able to quickly identify impacted assets and their owners not only enables fast assessment of the incident impact. It also allows for immediate stakeholder identification, saving valuable time in the incident resolution.

Lastly, we're also currently starting to use the Data Products & Data Domain features in more depth. Atlan allows to extensively document data products (e.g. description, ReadMe, criticality, sensitivity) and relate relevant tables and dashbaords via automated rules. By being able to add both data products and individual tables & dashboards to data domains, the tool is becoming our source of truth for data roles & responsibilities and valuable input for domain-specific reporting on data governance maturity.

 ### 22. Enabling our teams through better data access and visibility

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

The best benefit of Atlan was the functionality for both front end users and our data engineering teams. Providing a common data glossary location tied directly with the data assets enabled us to make data more available and accessible to all data consuming teams. The flexibility in providing an area for data quality metrics to be visible right alongside each key dataset also provides next level confidence to our teams that the data they're accessing is accurate, complete, reliable, relevant, and timely.

Integration with our data platform was straightforward and ensuring all our data sources and reporting applications are all connected quick and effective. Any issues we had were resolved quickly with the customer success team and it's great to have regular check ins with them to learn of the new features on the product roadmap.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The most difficult part is taking advantage of all the features. There is a lot it can do with Atlan and it will take time to implement. It's not a bad thing, it's just that you need to be aware of the extra time and resource required to make it as effective as it can be for your organisation.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main purpose of Atlan is bringing our data together in an easily searchable way for our data consuming teams. Secondly is about ensuring our data engineering team is always the first to know of any data issues and data quality tests will reflect in Atlan to ensure our staff always know the quality of the data they need to use.

 ### 23. Atlan Improves Data Visibility and Context

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan is helpful for searchign data objects and understanding the context/lineage surrounding them. In addition to providing descriptions of data objects and their lineage, it also provides recent usage statistics, which can be helpful for identifying the significance of a data object, and source for the data (e.g. Snowflake etc). The search itself is easy to use and has good accuracy.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Search can be overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for or are searching general terms. Additionally, the lineage is helpful but doesn't provide much context on how exactly parent objects are leveraged in the context of the object you're using.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a fairly complex data ecosystem, and it can be difficult to know where to find the data we're looking for, particularly when starting a new project. Atlan makes it easier to search across our organization for the most relevant results as well as understand the sources and dependencies of that data.

 ### 24. Atlan: great potential, amasing help, but some obstackes on the way

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna K. | Data Steward, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan meets all the requirements that one would expect from the catalog: great search experience, variety of connection possibilities, easy of use, and clear UI. It is also highly customizable to our needs where we can add our custom metadata and needed for the business information on the data assets. Automatic lineage inside Snowflake and Tableau saved us hours of work. Customer support and the community around the catalog help us to integrate the catalog very easily. Thanks to multiple walk-throughs, it was extremely easy to sez-up the tool and hook it up to our architecture. It is a every-day tool for our data people at the moment.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

We have experienced some problems with connections to Tableau and Matillion that were unexpected (we have not seen them during the POC) and took longer than expected to fix, hindering the implementation process. There is no UI for lineage building inside the tool, which would be highly beneficial

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Observability on our data and architecture, ownership, clear understanding of terms and data assets among teams

 ### 25. Great tool for exploring data flow and finding data assets

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Data lineage is amazing. Being able to find any data asset across a variety of warehouse or BI platform, then explore both upstream and downstream has been very helpful. I can tell how specific metrics or data infrastructure are made, which helps me quickly troubleshoot issues. The search functionality is extremely powerful and performant. AI recommended documentation is also helpful.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Limiting searches can be difficult. In my organization we have a lot of legacy data assets with no documentation. Search and data lineage often find dozens of likely results for my search and it's difficult to narrow those searches down.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are a variety of data-product creators in my area of responsibility and I'm not always up to speed on what they're making at any given time. I'm often asked to create data assets or update assets upstream, or to collaborate with colleagues. Using Atlan's search and data lineage makes this so much easier. I can see how a column in a data table is made or I can see the downstream impacts of the work I'm doing. Particularly for our globally distributed team: being able to investigate independently is a life saver.

 ### 26. Powerful Data Catalog tool with great features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan search is extremely useful, allowing you to easily find all data assets within your organization. The lineage tool is also very powerful, and can assist in a multitude of different areas from understanding dependencies, making informed decisions on developments, and checking overall use of an asset.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

It would be great to have more capabilities involved with the lineage views. We have wanted to be able to filter based on the asset source (only lineage for the dbt assets, or Snowflake and Sigma etc.), so that is a downfall of this feature. It would also be good to include more automations and templates for things like Glossary terms.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan is helping individuals at the organization identify what data is available to them, what it is and how to use it. It is also helping with broad release of primary metric definitions and linking them to relevant assets for users to review and gain even further business context.

 ### 27. Democratizing Data: How Atlan Encourages Organization-Wide Collaboration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan’s user-friendly interface encourages engagement across the board, regardless of technical expertise. The data lineage feature provides a clear, visual layout of our data stack, which has been particularly helpful in onboarding new hires by giving them immediate insight into our data architecture. The glossary feature is crucial for establishing a common understanding of terms and metrics throughout the company, with the ability to assign ownership to these definitions. Linking glossary terms to related assets further reinforces this shared understanding and accountability.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The integration with Teams could be more refined. Specifically, it would be beneficial if requests for approval could be directed to the appropriate data owner or individual, rather than just an administrator.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We lacked a consolidated view of our overall data landscape, and there was a clear need to standardize corporate terminology and metrics with defined lines of responsibility. Atlan addressed these challenges by providing a unified platform that supports our data governance and operational goals.

 ### 28. Helplful docs for data-users.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

the search function - where it is placed and how relevant the search results are have helped me onboard to my new (data) organization faster than had I not had access to such a helpful catalogue.

Lineage diagrams clearly mark where data is coming from.

Though I've not used it much, I like that it's easy to directly edit the descriptions of fields. I think that's why the data I have access to is so well-documented (it is easy to update).

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

I frequently flip back and forth between (1) atlan, and (2) the github repository containing our dbt models. I know that atlan is integrated so it's possible to see within the app how exactly (raw SQL) a model is built but I feel like this feature could be fleshed out more so that I'm not tempted to flip back and forth.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it helps me to learn quickly about the data that is available at my org.

 ### 29. The most intuitive and leading metadata management product on the market

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sandeep k. | Sr Manager, Data Engineering & Analytics, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Overall, the experience from inception to implementation was excellent. The sales team was very responsive, helping us answer all our questions and connecting us with the technical team to resolve any issues. This ensured a seamless product evaluation experience and timeline.he product is very easy to integrate with different collaboration tools and other data products. They have been adding many new features that were requested, ensuring the product is far more mature compared to other metadata management tools.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Atlan’s licensing model limits your ability to use the product to its fullest potential if your organization has budget constraints. Since the licensing model is based on the number of users and connectors, you cannot expand it to everyone in the organization, and it costs more to add additional connectors

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan addresses our company's challenges by making it easier to discover and organize data, which saves time and boosts efficiency. It also provides better enterprise visibility, reducing duplicate and inefficient queries, lowering compute and admin costs. Atlan increases data asset awareness, enabling easier access and understanding, which fosters innovation and business opportunities.

That it does not yet have a google dataform connector :)

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing a single pane of glass to view all of our data assets and how they are built in a simple and easy to understand tool for end users. Allowing users to answer questions for themselves and to see whats available without intervention from the data team. It also allows lineage level tracking for the technical teams and allows a platform for all data documentation instead of it living on a wiki that few know about

 ### 32. Atlan - Modern Data Governance platform

 ### 33. Atlan is a game changer & pioneer in modern Data Governance space

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Murali B. | Data Platform Engineer/ Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Richness of Features, Design Flexibility of workflow as per our needs + standard templates, Super Quick Response/support from Atlan Team, Leading the thoughtprocess in Data Product space.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Error logs of batch processes are too verbose & it will be challenging to pin point any error. However, there are rarely any errors + atlan support proactive in addressing/advising on the errors.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing Metadata is a challenge for us, with tons of tech savvy business users generating data content that will consume similarly tech savvy users of the organization in a fast paced manner. Self-service, open source tool integration, and click-and-go features were critical for our business, so that data governance does not slowdown the business, instead of helping to speed up the business. Altan was a perfect solution to that problem.

 ### 34. Atlan enabled data democratisation for us and reduced the dependency on the data engineering team.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan helped us democratise the data. We, the data team, receive a huge number of requests from teams across the organisation. Atlan helped us put the data in their hands enabled them to be independent.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Like every product in the market, Atlan is not yet complete. There are many features that are yet to be developed that will bring more value to the users.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the issue of data democratisation, thereby reducing the load on our data engineering team. Now our engineering team can perform more meaningful tasks than just operating as a data support team.

 ### 35. Great business-friendly data catalog for smaller enterprises

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan has a comfortable UI that is fairly intuitive to navigate, even for team members who don't interact with data often.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The lack of a native Airbyte connecter has prevented us from getting as much value as possible from Atlan, and while the integrations with other systems such as Tableau are there, it isn't as in-depth as it could be.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan helps us to establish a common language around our data, find data that is available, and understand how to utilize it.

 ### 36. Exceptional Data Cataloging Tool for Metadata Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nitin S. | Data Warehouse Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

Atlan's modern and intuitive UI facilitates quick onboarding for new users.
The Chrome extension and metadata discovery within preferred tools are highly valued features.
Lineage tracking between data platforms and drill-down to column-level lineage aids in investigations.
The tailored implementation blueprint helped us focus on the right tasks.
Atlan's wide range of supported integrations and ease of integration are commendable.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Documentation updates were inconsistent, potentially due to rapid development.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We has a collection of data from widely different sources and teams find it dfficult to locate and understand the data they need. By making it all searchable under a single tool is helping a lot. Alongside that, the business glossary is helping teams collaborate and define terms to agree upon.

Lineage across tools and the chrome extension has made it very helpful and easy for teams to adapt to the tool.

 ### 37. Great way for teams to browse data

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Good interoperability with multiple data sources. Allows users to see what is available across all assets in a single spot. Reasonably easy to navigate for the data neophyte. Our support experience has been good. We use it frequently for small scale data consumption requests.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

We would like to see a feature that would publish the results of a saved query on a set cadence.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filling the gap in meta data management. Providing an easy portal to our data for the teams.

 ### 38. Atlan - AI based metadata management for datalakes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

AI generated suggestions for deble and column description feature is also usful. Integration with communication tools like Slack save time to communicate and describe tables to users

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Sometime Atlan is bit slow to load all information about a data asset, which can deter users. Role based access mechanism is useful for user authorization, but sometime it is confusing if you have access to multiple roles.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously it used to take a lot of time find usage details, lineage information, quality information about a data product. Now, Altan showcases all metadata information about all data assests in a central place. Its hugely time saving for data engineers, analysts, and data scientis to get information about the product. Data assets can be easily shared accross by integrated communication tools like Slack. Overall it plays a crucial role in the journey of data analytics democratization throughout the organization.

 ### 39. Atlan: Centralizing Data Assets in One Place

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Ease of use, clean interface, search capabilities, lineage tool.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Seach feature can get overwhelming if there are so many data assets to sort through. Having a data source filtering capability in the lineage tool would be helpful.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan centralizes all my org's data assets/sources so I am able to easily navigate through my org's data in one area.

 ### 41. Best-in-class Active Metadata Management Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jorge P. | Data Governance Senior | Data Catalog & Data Observability Platform Lead, Financial Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

1. Atlan is deeply committed to innovation. Its products, such as Atlan AI and Atlan Mesh, are redefining the concept of an Active Metadata Management tool, also known as a data catalog.
2. The customer support and customer solutions teams at Atlan are highly engaged in helping clients achieve their goals. They often create custom packages or solutions to meet specific needs.
3. Atlan’s Chrome extension is noteworthy. It offers the convenience of an embedded Atlan solution within Databricks, Power BI, Google Chrome, and other platforms, eliminating the need to switch between applications. This seamless integration enhances user experience and productivity.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

While the product documentation is publicly available, some of it is outdated, which can sometimes lead to confusion among clients. Additionally, information about bugs and fixes is not readily available on the official website. Once a request is opened, it’s currently not possible to assign a priority level to it. This is an area that could benefit from improvement.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously, Data Discovery was only available for a select few data and analytics roles. However, Atlan has provided the opportunity to leverage data quality from data assets through impact analysis and root cause analysis.
With Atlan’s workflow features, metadata and lineage curation have become possible. The tool also allows for the massive import of Business Metadata with custom packages and automation (playbooks).
Reporting analytics is another key feature of Atlan. It generates insights from tool usage, providing valuable data such as the number of weekly active users, the number of curated assets, assets with lineage, popularity, and more. This information can be instrumental in understanding user engagement and improving the overall user experience.

 ### 42. Data lineage provides clear visibility

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Data catalog and data lienage between the source and final reports is very helpful for all the users , both technical and non technical folks.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Initial setup is time consuming and takes effort

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Business users benefit from the data catalog, which often requires back and forth conversations between data and business teams

 ### 43. New Data Governance Strategy Easily Implemented with Great Platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tony B. | Data Governance Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

1.) Using lineage to conduct impact and root cause analyses to clean up our data. We were in the middle of a data re-architect before bringing in Atlan and now having it we can easily spot assets without queries or downstream attachments for clean-up and deprecation.

2.) Easy to use and intuitive UI, the browser extension is icing on the cake, end users can view information in Atlan without having to switch from their current screen to the platform, which is going to aid immensely in adoption. We've had users already solve issues using Atlan with little to no training.

3.) Customization features from personas and policies, to customizable messaging and scorecards to ensure integrity and accuracy the first time.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

1.) Some of the sublayers in licensing privileges are not clearly delineated and need to be specified at the persona level which could cause overages. A great example is insights licenses are not granted at the individual level.

2.) Atlan only goes to the tile level in Looker, it would be nice if they went all the way to the calculation for lineage and specificity without having to manually define it.

3.) The UI has basic spelling and grammar errors that could be cleaned up.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Curate sources of truth for data, document processes and definitions in one place, ensure relevance with periodic reminders.
- Implement standard communication processes.
- Mapping data from source to destination for root cause and impact analysis
- Permission and access governance
- Standardization across the tech stack
- Scorecards on metadata reporting to ensure maximum business ROI

 ### 44. Atlan with Saas only data sources

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Ease of use for admins, developers and business users.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

A couple of the critcal support tickets took a long time to resolve, but normaly they were processed in a timely fashion.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Give data transpartency across the organisation. Manage data access.

 ### 45. In general the experience is good in usability and could be improved in technical support

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Its UX and its deployment added its data lineage and the easy integration with multiples sources.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

Its technical supports is to slow in the resolution and sometimes not very accurate

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its resolve the data catalog and data lineage by organizin the company to self service information.

 ### 46. Best in Class Data Catalog

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

It is one of the best data catalogs in the market and I would say it has the best UX. It is easy to adopt and is designed to be close to where your users are looking at data (It has a plugin), which makes adoption a lot easier.

We are still rolling out all the features, but so far we have seen a lot of value, specially using the lineage functionality.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

It would be great if they had an easy way to add assets they have no connectors for. While the APIs are great, one of the reasons we selected them, there are tools where using engineering resources is too expensive or the tool we want to connect to does not have APIs. I understand we would not have all the features the API or the connector gives us, but it will not stop us from adding ALL data related reports in Atlan. Right now, we found a hack using Glossaries, but it would be ideal if they could make that available without hacks.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is making it easy for our users to discover our data assets and self-serve themselves at scale.

It is saving us a lot of time when we need to do an impact analysis e.g. what assets will be impacted downstream from making this change in our warehouse.

It is helping us streamline how we manage our data assets and making it the central place for all things data. Data consumers can submit tickets on a dashboard that has a bug or if they have an idea. It is a repository of all our knowledge around specific assets.

 ### 47. A promising Data Catalog with a great Customer Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nevenka P. | Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Customer Support is very helpful and happy to find work arounds.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

No downsides - the platform is still being developed. Perhaps a bit more Data Quality features and native connectors.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lineage, Glossaries

 ### 48. Atlan: A New Cornerstone In Our Data Management Journey

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Atlan seamlessly integrated into our modern data stack, with Snowflake and Sigma at its core. The integration with Sigma, empowered by the Chrome Plug-in, emerged as a standout feature for us, elevating user experience and adoption. With the Chrome extension, all users in our BI enviornement have an enriched experience with Atlan providing data definitions and lineage while also enabling users to submit Jira tickets without leaving Sigma.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The Atlan University is a great resource and training tool. However, the format of the short videos without seamless transitions could be improved.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our initial use case was finding a tool that could enhance our Data Governance strategies. However, when evaluating the product we found feature after feature that could either enhance user experiences, increase efficency, or identify cost optimization opportunities. Atlan quickly solved our Data Governance use case, but it also became a cornerstone for creating an enriched data enviorment through the creation of data glossaries, adding content and tags to objects via automated playbooks, and creating an opportunity to explore data and where it comes from through the lineage functions.

 ### 49. Next Generation Data Governance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom W. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

Clean, user friendly interface. Was relatively painless to get all of our data sources added in quickly and we had all of our sources supported right out of the box. Beyond the obvious usefulness of end to end lineage, that mining features are also great for understanding what tables and columns are most used, and even helps identifying slow or expensive queries. Chrome extension allows users to get to information without switching applications and Teams integration helps keep questions centralized and front of mind for the org. Support and Customer Success have been great to work with. Upcoming AI features will make managing the platform with minimal staff even easier, and should also help drive user adoption through ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

One function I would like to see added is the ability as an admin to see the application as a particular user does. With personas and purposes you can deeply customize what a user can see and do and having the ability to quick validate that instead of needing test accounts would be a timesaver.

Additionally the text editing in the Glossary is extremely basic and needs simple functions like Undo added.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Atlan is making it easier for business users to understand exactly how metrics are being calculated, where that data is coming from, and if there are any known issues with it. Combination of the data lineage and glossary removes all of the mystery behind where numbers are coming from and will increase confidence in the accuracy of what they are seeing. This also frees up the data team to focus on future enhancements instead of spending so much time answering questions and chasing down issues.

 ### 50. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelsey C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Atlan?**

The tool is very intuative to navigate, making it so we don't have to do a lot of training for new users. Implimentation was also easy and their customer support has been great!

**What do you dislike about Atlan?**

The lack of flexibility around custom fields.

**What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a way for business users to easily document trible knowlage, link business terms to technical assets so people can self serve on knowing where in the database to get data and knowing the definitions of the data they are using. Allows our technical teams to have a diagram of how lineage.
