The core primitives (call-actor, get-actor-run, get-actor-output) are the right shape for agentic workflows. search-actors and fetch-actor-details let me discover existing actors instead of reinventing the wheel. And search-apify-docs is underrated — having Claude pull up the right docs without context-switching to a browser is a small thing that compounds.

The default Claude desktop / Cowork connector ships with a fairly limited tool set. The core operational tools (run history, abort, logs, schedule listing) do exist, but they’re tucked away in a separate MCP Configurator—and I didn’t even know the configurator existed until a PM personally walked me through it. Up to that point, I assumed those capabilities were missing entirely and ended up falling back to REST API workarounds.

This feels more like a discoverability problem than an actual product gap, but it still cost real time. Either ship the operations tools enabled by default, or make the configurator clearly visible during connector setup so it’s obvious where those features live. What I like best about Apify is how intuitive and reliable the platform is, even for someone who isn’t a developer. There isn’t much I genuinely dislike about Apify, but there are a few areas where the experience could be even smoother. Debugging can sometimes feel a bit unclear, especially when different errors look similar and require extra time to interpret. The versioning workflow in the Web IDE could also be more intuitive, as it’s not always obvious which build is currently active. It handles the scraping targets that would otherwise be impossible for a small team - Facebook, Instagram, and Cloudflare-protected sites like Resident Advisor. Instead of fighting constant UI changes and bot protection, we plug in a managed actor, get clean JSON, and focus on the actually differentiated parts of our product (AI extraction, search UX). Actor discovery is the weakest part. Searching for something like "facebook events" returns a dozen overlapping actors with no clear signal on which is officially maintained, actively updated, or reliable in production. Trust badges, last-updated dates, and a recommended output schema per platform would save a lot of trial-and-error evaluation time. What I appreciate the most is the incredible time-saving offered by the Store. Having access to hundreds of pre-configured "Actors" for the most popular sites allows projects to be launched in just a few clicks. Moreover, their intelligent management of proxies and cloud infrastructure is remarkably reliable, allowing focus on data analysis rather than technical maintenance. Honestly, the only negative point is that I wish I could use it even more intensively! Unfortunately, my budget is not unlimited, and since the tool is extremely efficient, one quickly wants to extend it to all our projects. That's the part I think is genuinely underrated about Apify - it's not just a hosting platform, it's a scraping utility layer you can lean on. For someone building a AI agentic business for other businesses that's a significant shortcut. The Actor ecosystem and deployment pipeline are best-in-class. I can go from an idea to a production-ready web scraper or automation tool in under an hour, publish it to the Apify Store, and have it running immediately on managed infrastructure with built-in proxy rotation, scheduling, and storage.

The platform takes care of the painful parts of scraping at scale proxy management, browser orchestration, rate limiting, and retry logic so I can stay focused on the actual extraction logic. The pay-per-result pricing model for Store actors is a genuine differentiator: it lets me monetize the tools I build while giving users a low-friction way to try them.

The build system can be frustrating — when a deployment fails, the error messages are often vague and don't point you

to the actual problem. Debugging a failed Docker build on the platform sometimes means pushing multiple

trial-and-error commits just to get a useful stack trace. The Store discovery algorithm is also opaque; it's hard to

understand why some actors rank well and others with better SEO and more users don't. Pricing transparency for

platform compute could be improved — estimating costs for a new actor before running it at scale requires a lot of

guesswork. The web IDE is underpowered compared to local development, and the dashboard UI can feel sluggish when

managing a large portfolio of actors. Minor gripe: the documentation sometimes lags behind SDK changes, so you

I love Apify because it saves me from having to build scrapers from scratch, and I can write my scrapers in Python, which fits seamlessly into my existing workflow. I end up paying for compute time even when a big chunk of that time is just spent waiting for slow pages to load, which feels pretty wasteful. I also can’t always rely on a third-party Actor for sensitive scraping tasks, because I don’t fully control what it’s doing behind the scenes. It bypasses strong anti-spam protections on websites and lets me scrape useful data for my business. It’s also very intuitive. The pricing is OK for what it does. Sometimes it fails on a few scrapes, but it’s marginal and rare. In some cases, I think the issue is the website I’m scraping rather than Apify.
