It fills the void of a complete office suit for Linux Machines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It feels outdated. Its UI is similar to that of MS Office 2007, and its website appears as if they don't want you to download the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Bascally, ths is a very cost-effective (free) alternative to M.S. Office with almost all the features. What I like best is that it has nearly all the features of M.S. Office and Google Docs and it's free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Formatting sometimes doesn't translate to M.S. Word. It's missing email and Calendar applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Open Office is very user-friendly and easy to use. It has an attractive layout as well, which I appreciate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes there are issues with adding in page numbers. Additionally, adding images is often difficult because it is sometimes impossible to get photos to line up how you want them to, even if there is enough space for the image. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This product is old, but during its time, it provided a great free alternative to Microsoft Word. It was open source and provided the same functionality as Microsoft Word, allowing for exportation into PDF and doc format. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There were some aspects of the application that were not fully optimized, and some features were missing that were found in Microsoft Word. Not much to complain about, considering this application was free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What I like best about this software is that it is free to download for anyone who wants to use it, whether it be for school, business, or anything else. I also like the fact that is has features that are very, very comparable to what you would find in Microsoft Word. As such, you are able to design and compose your document in a matter that is very similar to what you would be getting from what would be considered a more "premium" word processing software. Although there is more that I like than dislike about this software, I would have to mention that some, not all, of the commonly used features of this software are "hidden" within the toolbar at the top of the screen. In other words, sometimes it may be a bit challenging to find the feature you need to use, such as creating a subscript/superscript, footnote, and the like. Other than that, there is not much I have left to point out as it relates to what I dislike about this software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My favorite features of OpenOffice Writer are:
- a clear indication of the margins of the sheet, which allows you to immediately evaluate whether it is suitable for the file or not;
- all the most frequently used commands are in the ribbon bar, you avoid having to search for them in the curtains
-the print control window is complete with all the information, it is impossible to go wrong. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One of my least favorite things about OpenOffice Writer is the small size of the icons in the ribbon bar. Although it is really convenient to have the most frequently used ones just a click away, sometimes the small icon is not very intuitive and not very visible.
It would be nice to have pre-loaded templates to use as needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
