I also value its real-time planning capabilities and the security features it provides. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** The cost appears to be somewhat challenging in the long term. I have volunteered with an organization that transitioned from Anaplan to another tool due to cost concerns. It would be beneficial if the pricing could be reduced or optimized to be more in line with other competitors available in the market. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** I worked with a client where the planning process was highly unorganized. Data was coming from multiple sources, planning was done in Excel, versions were mismatched, and there was no single source of truth. Forecast cycles took too long, manual errors were common, and leadership lacked real-time visibility to make decisions. Anaplan helped solve these problems by centralizing data into one connected planning platform, standardizing business logic, and enabling real-time collaboration across teams. It's also fun to use and compared to other tools for similar applications, it's easier to be trained on. You don't need to know coding at all because it's more formula-based with drag-and-drop and clicking. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** I believe that integration is still a challenging area, even if there is now a new tool called ADO, which is supposed to help a lot. However, these and other tools come at an extra cost, so they are not available for all customers. More work is needed to enable seamless integration with many systems. Also, another relevant point is the ability to customize the outputs with more freedom, particularly the dashboarding for end users. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Anaplan to collect data from all divisions, globally, enrich it, and project into the future. The platform also gives you the flexibility to define your own models without being constrained by rigid structures or limitations. It's user friendly UX allows model builder to build highly customized UX with KPIs, Charts and Conditional formatted tables, hence improving overall user experience. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** The extra efforts in handling sparsity of the model; we need to spend significant efforts in building concatenated list to reduce sparsity of the model to gain better performance. Polaris seems to be an answer for that, however, the costs of the license would be higher. The limitation in reporting, currently we are restricted to do slice and dice on the reporting dimensions included in the module. It would be nice if we could also include properties of the reporting dimensions to achieve something similar in BI tools. The current solution on this would be exporting the data with the properties and build those kinds of reports in BI tools. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan effectively replaces disconnected Excel-based processes by creating a single, cloud-based planning environment where all teams work from the same real-time data. The basic AI and Gen AI features are not only costly but also have a very limited user base, as their use cases are quite narrow. Achieving scalability with Anaplan comes at a significant expense. Additionally, its ad hoc analysis capabilities, especially in Excel, are much weaker compared to other EPM tools, which forces users to rely solely on the application. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan has provided us with a comprehensive end-to-end connected planning solution. The product's modeling capabilities are straightforward and do not rely heavily on other products or tools. Recent improvements in third-party software integration, particularly through ADO, have made it much easier and faster to pull data from various sources. Anaplan's support service is very responsive, typically replying within a few hours. Software updates are seamless and do not require assistance from the development or support teams. Anaplan has been valuable for both opportunity and demand planning, enabling us to identify opportunities that are likely to convert quickly into sales. Errors associated with excel based planning can be eliminated and much more can be done with productivity improvements. The calculation engine Hyperblock is the foundation that powers this tool. The ability to customize for any type of planning be it sales, finance, supply chain, headcount etc helps in exploiting synergies of different orgs. In addition, the new features like combined grids, ADO etc will definitely make it a serious product in the market. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** More AI features are required for the increasingly competitive industry. The product roadmap is already filled with AI roadmap so it is just a matter of time. The tool is costly and the pricing definitely needs to be standardized and made transparent for all customers. Also, there should be focus to replace visualization tools like PowerBI by bringing in visual planning. This has been addressed with geo-mapping feature that is released recently but Anaplan should be bringing in and constantly improving the features like these. On the upsteam, the integration ability with other systems should be made easily. ADO is definitely a game-changer but it needs to be bi-directional. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** We plan our sales performance and territory management with Anaplan. It has been great and suits our use-case well. We dynamically manage territories and Anaplan has improved our productivity by mostly eliminating our manual workload. The sales cycle, which used to take months, has been reduced typically to days. The time to value is great, and they are making a lot of improvements to the product roadmap which we are looking forward to. Also, we identify the potential of a territory and it helps make decisions quickly and manage workloads of reps. We are also using it to segment and prioritize the accounts within different businesses. ### 7. It helps us consolidate inputs from different teams, regions and tools into a single platform, which makes the planning process more consistent and less reliant on spreadsheets. Before Anaplan, we used Excel, and it was hard to keep everything aligned—especially when we needed to update numbers or run different scenarios. Now we can do that much more easily and quickly. The main problems Anaplan helps us with are 1) Having multiple versions of the forecast/plan and not knowing which is the final one, 2) managing the read/write access to the forecast/plan, 3) when a new scenario modeling was needed, it would take us significant time, 4) loading data into our forecast tool (excel) was a manual and tedious process, 5) Updating presentation decks with the latest forecast/plan ### 9. The new bundle costing method might help out large scale enterprises to adopt Anaplan, it will remain out of each for a number of smaller organizations with limited budgets and resources. Performance Issues: Even though Anaplan very much allows large scale scalability, it can have a few performance issues specially when working with large datasets. New calculation engine called "Polaris" is now available for clients to tackle some of these issues, but it does require good model building to ensure justification of using the Polaris engine. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Agility in Decision-Making: With real time data integrations using ADO, fast calculations and real time reports allows organizations to be agile with their decision making and make room for swift adjustments to plan based on the market conditions and updated budgets. Just in the last 18 months, the following has released: app native workflow, build in data management, AI, brand new tech that builds models for you ("T&Q app"). It's changing what you expect from an EPM tool **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Anaplan's pricing can be confusing and opaque. This is due to an evolving platform, technology, and GTM model. Customers from just 3 years ago may have completely different expectations on pricing and that can cause friction. However, the GTM model had to change - the platform, which did not drastically change from 2014-2022, has received an incredible overhaul in terms of technical functionality, and old pricing models did no capture that at all. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** I will specifically answer this question regarding the territory and quota (T&Q) use case. T&Q represents a widespread, needed-everywhere planning problem but it doesn't have any of its own big software players. The reason is that Anaplan is so well-suited to the use case, that you'd waste your time trying to create a bespoke competitor. And Anaplan's offering is only strengthening. T&Q has the hallmarks needs of planning: nuanced, many disparate data sets, very large data sets, operational and financial considerations, many distributed stakeholders, and consistent collaboration. Anaplan checks each of those boxes an we see it at our customers. Our customers tell us they love a prescriptive approach that they still can own (the new T&Q app comes out of the box), where they can merge what they love about their current process with the best-in-class they need. These streamlined T&Q apps help our customers create fairer territories with better account scoring, build better quotas to set the right incentives and reach the right attainment curve, and do it all significantly faster. Our happiest customer now deploys territories and quota before the yera begins when it previously took them until 6 weeks into Q1. ### 17. Over the last 10 years, they have adopted the best-in-class funcitonalities on their platform to rival other big players in the EPM space such as Oracle, SAP and TM1. It is used for enterprise wide planning and improving collaboration among various teams within an organisation from finance to sales, HR, marketing, tax, operations and treasury to name a few. The platform uses simple drag and drop functionality along with excel-like scripting to build models and front-end pages, resulting in quicker adoption times for both end-users and new model builders and making implementation a breeze. The Anaplan REST API can be leveraged to connect the system to other existing ERPs and master data source system to ensure integrity of data across an enterprise. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** While Anaplan has recently produced some exceptional functionalities like geo-mapping and workflow, and has a strong roadmap with GenAI coming into the picture soon, a lot of these capabilities (such as Workflow, or the new Polaris engine) come at an additional cost to customers. A lot of times customers are discouraged from using these features due to the additional price tag. This prevents consultants and partners like us from leveraging the full power of Anaplan to implement for the customer. However, the minimum/basic features that come with an enterprise licence are sufficient for a great start to the Anaplan journey. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan solves a wide array of problems including but not limited to: better data integrity, improved collaboration, scenario planning, faster forecasting cycles. Even though we are a partner/consultant, we also use Anaplan internally for sales perfomance management, financial budgeting/forecasting and workforce planning. Adopting Anaplan has made the before-mentioned processes significantly faster and more reliable. I have also implemented supply-chain use cases for customers, which have resulted in better communication with their suppliers, reduced cost through optimised inventory and better collaboration across the enterprise. ### 18. Anaplan is a trusted tool in the EPM space. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Anaplan's innovation has not kept up to pace with other tools in the market, and the drawbacks of the tool like sparsity and toaster for model builders are no longer acceptable. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan takes away the multiple spreadsheets and gets everyone in a tool to create a connected planning environment. Realistically, the tool functions to move everyone out of excel. On top of that, there are some quality user experience elements that enhance the planning process and make things like driver based planning more attainable for smaller FP&A functions. ### 19. Anaplan offers a single platform that multiple users (100s, 1000s) can access at the same time, which allows collaborative and real time planning. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Anaplan uses a sparse calculation model. As a result, models can become very large. The large the model, the higher the licensing fees and potential impact to performance. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan is solving the problem of relying on disparate Excel sheets and Excel models to perform monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting, planning, and forecasting cycles. The benefit is that there is more security and transparency to the models being hosted in a single clould planning platform as opposed to Excel files on various employees' laptops. ### 25. Easy for the user to navigate through data (pivoting is great) and web interface and reporting is good. An excel add-in is very useful. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Have to have an experienced model builder on staff to make changes or even more minor adjustments. Not seamless in integrating with other finance software. More expensive than excel. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using Anaplan for P&L reporting, cost allocation, forecasting and budgeting. Customizable software great for when you have particular case/usage.
