It enables me to move from initial concepts to structurally validated, manufacturable designs quickly, confidently, and intelligently. I really appreciate that it allows me to explore innovative ideas freely while ensuring they are structurally sound and manufacturable. What stands out is its ability to integrate modeling, analysis, and optimization into one intuitive platform, providing instant feedback on how a design will perform in the real world. It also encourages smarter, lighter, and more efficient designs from the start. Additionally, setting up Altair Inspire was quick and uncomplicated, making it one of the easiest CAE tools to get started with, especially for engineers new to simulation-driven design. The ease of use, powerful topology optimization, and the ability to bridge creativity with real engineering insight earn it high praise from me.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Altair Inspire excels at concept-level design and optimization, but it could be improved by expanding advanced simulation depth, enhancing modeling tools, and optimizing performance for large assemblies. Even with these limitations, its core strength combining design creativity with engineering intelligence remains unmatched in its category.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altair Inspire solves early-stage uncertainty and the gap between idea and proven concept. It enables me to move from initial concepts to structurally validated, manufacturable designs quickly, combining creativity with engineering intelligence and providing instant feedback for confident decision-making early in the process.

  ### 2. Rapid Prototyping Made Easy with Altair Inspire

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

I’d say the best thing about Altair Inspire is how quick it is to go from a basic idea to something you can actually test. You don’t need to be a full-on simulation expert — you can sketch, tweak, run a few checks, and get a decent feel for what’ll work without getting buried in settings.

It’s especially handy for early-stage design, when you just want to see if an idea makes sense before spending ages modelling it properly. The layout’s clean, the tools are fairly intuitive, and the built-in optimisation gives you useful guidance without much fuss.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Probably the most frustrating thing is that it can feel a bit limited once you want to do anything more advanced. It’s brilliant for early concept work, but when you start needing finer control, detailed meshing options, or more complex boundary conditions, it can get a bit restrictive.

Some of the workflows also feel a touch clunky — you sometimes have to jump between modes more than you’d like — and the learning curve for certain tools is steeper than it first appears. And it can be fairly heavy on your machine, especially with bigger models, which slows things down.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It mainly solves the early-stage design and validation gap — that awkward phase where you’ve an idea in your head but don’t want to spend hours building a full detailed model just to see if it’s any good.
With Inspire, you can:

Quickly test feasibility before committing serious time or CAD work.

Spot structural weaknesses early, so you’re not fixing big mistakes later on.

Use optimisation tools to guide you toward lighter, stronger designs without needing deep FEA expertise.

Shorten the whole design cycle, because you get usable feedback in minutes instead of days.

The benefit is simply speed and clarity: you get reliable direction early, cut out a lot of rework, and make better decisions without having to be a simulation specialist.

  ### 3. Fast, User-Friendly, Great for Basic Simulations

Now in industry, I use it for forming simulations, 3d printing simulations and rarely for motion analysis. It's so much time saving when compared it with other conventional software tools and gives decent results.

I love all those new features like single click options in GUI

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Yet times lot of options confuse the user, and new updates are adding continuously. which makes it little difficult to catch up sometimes. Result accuracy is decent like can be better

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have solved problems like deep drawing, extrusion and simulations related to tube bending etc. other than this few simulations on 3d printing and motion analysis. Biggest benefit would be time like other tools need considerbly more time for setting up simulation and solving, but it's easy here. one can get results quite Fastly.
one more advantage is the smaller time makes it easy for more simulation iterations, at the end of the day it will increase the productivity

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Developers have tried to merge Simsolid and Optisctuct solvers into one UI. Features for both solvers are littered everywhere. No thought is given to informing users which features correspond to which solver. The user experiance is bad.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FEA and topology optimisations for structural design.

  ### 15. Simple and easy to adapt

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jani K. | Mechanical Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

Transferring files over from different CAD environments to inspire for analysis is a breeze. Setting up a simulation is quite intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

I am not the biggest fan of the UI. The multi-function buttons are difficult to get used to. When doing implicit modelling I do not like the low quality of the output STL files. This has been quite a headache, as in some cases I have had to resort to manual modelling in a different environment altogether to get a high quality STL for additive manufacturing.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We primarily use IronCAD and we do not have a good motion solver in it. So motion solving and strength simulation. I also really like the implicit modelling and topology optimization!

  ### 16. Easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

It's a revolutionary way to stress analyze your design part without requiring complicated pre-processing and model preparation. The design iteration process is much quicker due to the in-built CAD compared to traditional FEA software.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

There are some features that are only available on simsolid (non-linear analysis) that I wish Inspire had. More online resources to guide through trouble shooting or community-based forums would be beneficial.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a quick tool to justify the structural integrity of the design (stress and normal mode analysis). There is no need for me to import and export models out of CAD software and FEA software to iterate my design.

  ### 18. Unusual way of connecting pre, post and solver for FEM with advanced possbility of geometry editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mariusz K. | Senior Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

geometry editing is excellent, and model simplification for FEA purposes - is brilliant, GUI is quite intuitive -> like process guiding, beneficial help "on demand" visible at each option you use, implementation of Optistruct and Simsolid solver - fantastic, contact settings up - very fast and exact

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Higher Altair's license points to run since the latest versions, the software is not suitable for the big model in my opinion since the graphic is very demanding and a way of modeling (mainly 3D tetras), switching from Simsolid solver to Optistruct requires contacts redefinitions, sometimes, despite how good this function is, model defeaturing is not working but probably because of too complex geometry so no miracles are expected.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast model preparation for 3D assemblies and further pre and post-processing in other Altair's software, since geometry can easily be editable it is very useful in the concept phase, and could be used by persons without deep knowledge of FEA.

  ### 19. Intuitive and complete software for initial project validation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rodolfo N. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

The simplicity and the interface. It has an organization of functions based on a work workflow. This greatly simplifies the usability of the software. With several tools that can evaluate the performance of the part or the productive means of this part. Giving a starting point in making a decision whether or not to proceed with the project or simply, you can now make some modifications and optimizations all within a single software.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Altair is a large company that has good software on the global market. What is missing for Altair to expand the market further is the development of CAD software to compete with NX Siemens, Catia and Creo. If Altair manages to introduce CAD software to the market with all the tools from inspire and also from SimSolid, it would be the most complete software that would allow users and industries to have access to a series of tools for developing a product or process. Altar would rise to the next level, making large industries such as automakers acquire this complete solution.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use them mainly to render our products.

  ### 20. Best diversity of simulation tools.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

The best part about Altair Inspire is the simple and commonly used interface between Inspire products. This makes transition fast and easy for both the beginners and experts. Installing their products with the ConnectMe app is a breeze. I have used the casting and molding on occasion and plan to continue to take advantage of Inspire's offerings. I think it is a great bridge between the coarse, non-expert analysis tools out there such as Ansys Live Simulation and full-on detailed simulation tools like Hyperworks desktop and Optistruct/Radioss. I judge these tools as the most able to democratize simulation to the masses with fewer issues.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

I have not run across any issues based on my occasional usage, however I believe there are times when the ability to control fine details of complex models requires an expert tool like hyperworks desktop.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently helps understand manufacturing feasibility.

  ### 21. Simulation powerhouse for design engineer .

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander B. | Team Leader, Structural Analysis , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

So quick to get a simple part and assembly analysed and if your computer can handle it, deep enough to get a large assembly analysed too. The optimisations and other analysis types like motion and thermal are simple to use and generate useful results for quick looks

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Sometimes during complex analyses, the solver can fail. It doesn't always generate an error code so you have to guess what is wrong. Perhaps some better mesh refinement and adjustment tools would be great to alleviate this

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Geometry editing after receiving CAD for design exploration and sketching new ideas. Automating some part creations like bolts and joints. Easy optimisation with the easy design space and objectives

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

Altair Inspire packs simulation and optimization with CAD. Many of the Altair solvers, like FEA, CFD and multi body solvers are available, which lets you iterate and verify designs really fast and efficient in one environment.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

It's at first a bit hard to grasp what Altair Inspire is and what it is made for. Is it a CAD tool? A simulation tool? Is it an entry level tool or a hard core simulation tool? In my opinion it is more a simulation and optimization tool than a CAD tool, allthough all modelling cabability is available. And it punches way above the seamlingy entry level simulation tool appareance.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Initial CAD sketching

  ### 45. Altair inspire is in charge of generating simulation material for us

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan K. | Lead Data Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

The software is used for the generation of 3D simulations that allow the evaluation of the totality of viability that a product has at a technical level. Altair inspire has a system that allows working with digital tests of each product that is developed, before its launch.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

The physics provided by the platform are not as good, which slows down a bit the ability to write structural analysis of hardware, especially if you need to take into account the animations that have a high level of complexity.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

Among the industrial modeling platforms, or among those based on 3D material rendering, Altair inspire is one of the best for creating intuitive simulations with a good level of lighting, and that do not need so much effort to explore large constructions.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altair inspire provides all the tools to manage structural analysis on the parts that are designed, which leads to a large amount of information to work both in the construction of models and in the modification of motion simulations.

  ### 46. The best motion simulation software for motors or linear actuators

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

The results of the motion simulation will be automatically transferred to the FEA solver. The user interface often allows you to follow a series of steps to successfully complete the motion simulation and finite element analysis of the design. It is easy to define a motion sequence. It is easy to define actuators, pin joints and slider joints.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

The grid does not have the capacity to be refined. We must import the SOLIDWORKS assembly and relocate it in space.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

Altair Inspire is the easiest way to learn and use for any smaller company that develops and uses motors and actuators to complete the job and require top-notch performance. Our first project required construction constraints to handle compensation loads. I cannot get actions from SOLIDWORKS to simulate the actions that will be performed. It took less than 8 hours to fully define and run the first simulation. It was found that the design of the excavator boom was not sufficient to reduce the weight or strength of the product.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a small company that designs and manufactures products using actuators and motors. When weight is not necessary and force is not high, it is simple, so simple math and sketches will provide enough information for product design. Some of our products are very sensitive to weight and the movement and load conditions are more complicated. These products require finite element analysis before any construction can begin.

  ### 47. Best UI for motion simulation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ed D. | Owner, Machinery, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

The user interface provides a work flow of the steps required to compete a simulation better than any previous software I have purchased or had demonstrations on. My prior experience includes Working Model 2D, Working Model 3D, Dynamic Designer, SolidWorks Motion and Matlab Simulink.
Setting up the actual motor or actuator can be quick and simple or very complex and detailed. I used an Excel motion profile for the hydraulic motor and hydraulic cylinder on my first model. There is a place to input run output rate in Hz and simulation duration. The resultant forces at pin joints are easy to view so bearing area loads can be used to size the bearings or bushings. You can use the force results to determine motor size and cylinder size information as well.
The results from the motion simulation are directly transferred to the FEA module where you can choose the number of peak load cases to simulate. The results can be viewed as combined values or you can see the results for each peak load case to determine how to refine the design.

The tech support has be excellent.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

The only current feature missing is mesh refinement in the FEA portion. The current help is weak so screen sharing support is needed.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

If you design equipment making movements and want to make better quality lighter weight products this should help meet your goals.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The first project is a unit to side load and unload a mobility scooter into the back of a pickup. The lift capacity is 800 lbs. The lift container will need to be protect the contents from rain in Washington State and provide access for the person to drive in and out. Reducing unit weight, size and minimizing boom deflection are important design considerations that had to be met. This tool provided a way to do this. It will be mid-October before we have the prototype operational.

  ### 48. Excellent, easy to use software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jared C. | Undergraduate Research Assistant, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

This software is incredibly intuitive and really provides an excellent finished product. The software runs relatively quickly and will typically error right away, which is a nice feature. I did not use the geometric editing portions of the software, but it seems promising to be able to edit files directly in the program. The exportation of the finished product was also very easy to do and I was able to directly insert it into the CATIA v6 model that my team had been working on.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

The optistruct functionality doesn't work as well as it could; the material often has gaps that don't make sense. When running very detailed models, there's a 5GB default maximum for the file size and that made me lose 14 hours of the optimization. Also, I found that decreasing the element sizes did very little as far as improving the results. The inclusion of carbon fiber into the material palette would be a very helpful addition.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

Just play with it. It'll probably take some time to really get good at it.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Designing a fuselage structure for a tandem helicopter. The main benefit is not having to use Hypermesh, a program with a different order of magnitude as far as learning curves are concerned. I'm not completely convinced the program is as robust as hypermesh and optistruct, but I'm sure with more time that functionality can be simplified and streamlined into a more robust version of solid thinking.

  ### 49. Creative design workhorse

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian T. | Innovation Design Engineer, Aviation & Aerospace, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2017

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

Ability to use Nurbs style modeling to make free form designs analyze. It allows the user to break their old design paradigms and really think and model in the abstract. I think poly-Nurbs modeling will be the future of CAD modeling, the freedom of free form modeling to be used with additive manufacturing, casting or molding opens up a whole world of new designs that make lighter, cheaper, and more unique parts.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

Having to run a full analysis to get results on small changes. Would be nice to have an iterative function that could adjust analysis results with small changes to the model. A more robust solver would also be nice. Sometimes it kicks out when you make the elements small.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

Excellent software for new designs. Changes your thinking about traditional structures.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Design for additive manufacturing and designing new lightweight structures. Creating innovative designs that can be analyzed before prototypes that are difficult and expensive to manufacture have to be built and tested.

  ### 50. Wonderful Tool and Great Tutorials

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alan P. | Lab Technician, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2017

**What do you like best about Altair Inspire?**

I personally used Inspire solely for optimization of parts on my school's FSAE team. I found it very easy to pick up due to the helpful tutorials made available online. The software gave great results, was highly optimizable, and expanded ideas for potential part geometry.

**What do you dislike about Altair Inspire?**

In certain scenarios it was difficult to get the software to behave properly, albeit the load cases were odd, The modeling function was difficult to parameterize and I often had to settle for a generally dimensioned part or using CAD and importing a part rather than tightly controlling the base workpiece through Inspire.

**Recommendations to others considering Altair Inspire:**

Definitely worth experimenting with. There are huge implications and possibilities for design engineering and improvement as well as general understanding of ideal design principles.

**What problems is Altair Inspire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The greatest benefit was a general understanding of the potential for Inspire in future design work. Inspire brought up geometries which returned safety factors up to 10-15 times greater than previous designs without any additional weight.
