**What do you like best about Adobe InDesign?**

I find Adobe InDesign's user interface easy to use, which is the aspect I like the most. It's also an easy-to-learn program, making it accessible for novice designers like myself. Compared to Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign offers a much easier-to-navigate environment and has a lower barrier to entry, which simplifies graphic design for those who are new to the field.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

Sometimes there are elements that just don't work as well, like things snapping when I don't want them to snap. There are also certain guardrails in place that can be annoying and some of the image placement frames were not as well thought out. They're easy to fix, but I would do things differently with that.

**What problems is Adobe InDesign solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Adobe InDesign to create sales collateral in an environment that's much easier to use than Adobe Illustrator. It has a lower barrier to entry, making graphic design easier for novice designers like me.

**What do you like best about Adobe InDesign?**

Adobe InDesign gives me the most control when I need marketing materials to look polished, professional, and brand-consistent. I use it most often for flyers, event collateral, signage, multi-page documents, and other print-ready pieces that need to feel more elevated than something built in PowerPoint or Canva.

The biggest value for me is the precision. Tools like master pages, paragraph styles, linked assets, grids, and exact image placement make it easier to keep everything consistent across multiple pages or different versions of the same piece. It definitely has a learning curve, but once you understand the workspace, it can save a lot of time and helps the final product look much more intentional.

I also like how well it connects with the rest of Adobe Creative Cloud. Being able to build or edit assets in Illustrator or Photoshop and then bring them into InDesign to finalize the layout makes the overall workflow much smoother.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

Adobe InDesign is a powerful tool, but it definitely comes with a learning curve. The interface can feel intimidating at first, especially if you are not using it every day or if you are switching back and forth between InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Some tools are not as intuitive as they could be, and even simple tasks can take a few extra steps until you figure out the right workflow.

I also find that linked files, packaging, and export settings can be frustrating when everything is not organized properly from the start. It is easy to end up with missing links, font issues, or PDF settings that require troubleshooting before a file is truly ready to share or send to print.

Overall, my biggest dislike is that InDesign is not always beginner-friendly. It is worth learning, but at times it can feel overly technical compared to faster drag-and-drop tools.

Adobe InDesign helps me create polished, brand-consistent materials that need more structure and precision than PowerPoint or Canva typically allow. Before I started using InDesign, it was much more difficult to build multi-page layouts, print-ready pieces, or event collateral that looked truly professional and stayed consistent from page to page.

Now I can produce flyers, signage, event materials, sales collateral, and PDF documents with much better control over layout, typography, spacing, and image placement. Features like master pages, paragraph styles, and linked assets make it easier to keep everything aligned and consistent, especially when I’m maintaining or updating multiple versions of the same piece.

It also improves my workflow because it integrates smoothly with Illustrator and Photoshop. I can create or refine assets in those programs and then use InDesign as the final layout tool, which saves time and leads to a more polished end result. From an ROI perspective, it reduces the need to outsource simpler design or layout projects and helps me produce professional materials faster in-house.

I like that I'm used to Adobe InDesign now and know where everything is. It's great that I know what I want to do and how to do it. The addition of new pieces to the base software gives me tools and capabilities I didn't have before, which I really appreciate. This makes doing what I have to do a more enjoyable experience overall.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

Why can't if I change the settings for measurements on a document, why can't InDesign hold it? I have to do this for every design everything I open, I have to go in and redo because I do not wanna work in a particular measurement. The other thing is that every time I close it out, my desktop setting changes to something else and not to the desktop that I want. And I wish you could also keep that the way that I had it. Let me have what I want, not what you want me to have.

**What do you like best about Adobe InDesign?**

Adobe InDesign as everyone knows is a part of the Adobe Creative Suite, the best tools for all aspects of creative creation on the market at a reasonable price, and InDesign is in my opinion the best print/online publishing tool out there. I used to be an advocate for Quark Xpress, but InDesign has surpassed this software, its integration with the other Adobe Suite tools helps provide a seamless set of solution for my workflow. It is easy to use and intuitive to my needs, it has been implemented into my working practices, and I use it daily. Customer support when needed is excellent.

In all honesty I can't think of one at all.

We do a number of Annual and Business Reports, and the features for press/printing etc. make our work easier and quicker, and if we need them the range of ready made templates is a timesaver too.

what i like most about indesign is just how much control it gives you over every single detail of a layout, like once you've used it for a while you realize nothing else really comes close for serious print or publication work, the way you can set up master pages, paragraph styles, character styles, it sounds boring but it completely changes how fast you can work on multi page documents

the typography control is honestly unreal, kerning, tracking, baseline grids, optical margin alignment, stuff that sounds technical but once you understand it your layouts just look way more professional and polished, canva or word can't even touch that level of precision

i also really appreciate how well it plays with the rest of the adobe ecosystem, placing a linked illustrator file or photoshop image and being able to update it without redoing anything is such a smooth workflow, especially on bigger projects with lots of assets

and the preflight and package features are something i genuinely rely on, before sending anything to print you can catch missing fonts, broken links, color issues all in one place and then package everything neatly for the printer, that kind of professional output control is what makes indesign the real deal for anyone doing serious design work

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

honestly the biggest thing is the learning curve, like it is NOT a beginner friendly tool at all, when i first started it took a while just to understand the difference between the selection tool and the direct selection tool, or why text wasn't flowing the way i wanted, it's the kind of software where you have to put in real time before it starts feeling natural

the performance can also be frustrating sometimes, on heavier files with lots of linked images, long documents, or complex master pages it can get sluggish, and occasional crashes without saving properly have cost me real time before, especially on deadline, now i'm just obsessive about saving constantly

the subscription model is another thing that genuinely bothers me, indesign used to be something you could just own, now you're locked into the creative cloud subscription and if you stop paying you basically lose access to your own files in a usable way, for freelancers or students that cost adds up fast and it never really feels fair

and some things that should be simple are just weirdly complicated, like tables in indesign are functional but nowhere near as intuitive as something like word or even illustrator in certain cases, and working with long documents that have lots of cross references or footnotes can get messy fast if you're not really careful with your setup

none of it has made me switch to anything else but these are real friction points that even experienced users deal with honestly

the core problem indesign solves for me is bringing everything together into one controlled, professional layout environment, before i got serious with indesign i was doing a lot of stuff in illustrator or even powerpoint for multi page documents and it was just messy, no real structure, inconsistent spacing, fonts going off everywhere, indesign basically eliminated all of that

the biggest benefit is consistency across long documents, like when you're working on a 40 page portfolio or a publication with multiple sections, having paragraph styles and master pages means everything stays uniform without you having to manually fix every heading or page number, that alone saves hours on bigger projects

it also solves the print production problem really cleanly, knowing that what i'm setting up is actually going to come out correctly at the printer, right bleed, right color profile, fonts embedded, links packaged, that's not something you can take for granted with other tools and indesign just handles it properly, i've never had a print job come back wrong because of an indesign issue

for client work it's also just made presentations and deliverables look way more professional, there's a certain quality to an indesign layout that you can feel even if you can't explain it, the typography is tighter, the spacing is more intentional, everything just sits better on the page

and honestly the biggest overall benefit is just speed once you know it properly, styles, libraries, snippets, it all adds up to a workflow where you're not reinventing the wheel every project, you build your system once and then everything after that is just faster

InDesign is helpful because its interface is easy to use. You can set up your document exactly the way you want, and it will print the way it looks on screen. It’s a strong layout program, and in my experience it’s the best option out there for working with and laying out different fonts. They also make frequent improvements to the program.

One thing InDesign doesn’t do well, in my experience, is paragraph formatting. If you’re trying to create a bullet list or set up indentations, it can be difficult to make edits without having to redo the list or the indentation settings.

It helps us format our proposals and brochure/marketing documents. We’ve created templates for all the documentation our office uses, and once everything is set up, we can reuse them again and again with confidence that our brand will stay consistent over time.

InDesign is a great bit of software I mainly use for anything we want to get printed like leaflets or brochures along with case studies. Its easy to create templates to use again and again.

Can customise everything within the document so you can align it with the company brand guidelines and have full flexibility to quickly make changes.

It always runs smoothly even when dealing with a 30+ page brochure even on an older laptop it has no problems.

We used to use Microsoft publisher for all our flyers and brochures which was very time consuming but now we have InDesign its a simple duplicate pages and update the content making formatting and editing time of the document much quicker and small changes can be easily replicated across the pages.

I like how I can make most everything I need in InDesign. I especially like the direct selection ability without having to mess with layers, unless I want there to be layers. I can quickly edit text and typography with images in a fraction of the time it would take to do the same thing in Photoshop.

My biggest gripe about InDesign would be the inability to edit a photo's color mode quickly. If I just need to apply a black&white filter to a photo, I can't do that within InDesign easily. I have to use Photoshop and then save a copy of the photo instead of just applying a simple filter within the native app.

I appreciate the ease of use of Adobe InDesign. I started my design career with InDesign, and I loved that I was able to create professional-looking pieces even with limited experience. Now, as a professional designer, I'm able to do so much more with the system. InDesign allows me to create pieces for clients that are of professional and of printable quality, even on incredibly large scales. I can export in whatever format a client needs, and I really like the integration with other tools like Photoshop and Illustrator to get exactly what my client needs in their design. The software's user-friendly nature allows me to be more creative, and no matter what a client needs, InDesign's ease of use makes it possible.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

I wish there were more of an integration with Illustrator, but Illustrator really does provide the ability to do anything InDesign can't. In my opinion, you have to use the two in tandem if you're going to be a professional designer. There is a little bit of a learning curve with InDesign, especially if you're used to another system. Adobe tools don't have exactly the same functionality from app to app. I don't prefer to use InDesign on a laptop. I find the experience is far better with a desktop and traditional mouse and/or a tablet with a smart pen. It's hard to get the control you need on a traditional laptop with a trackpad. Besides some gaps in the functionality that are solved easily by integration, there isn't much to complain about with InDesign.

It's tailored for those who are great at graphic design, and for others, it can be very intimidating. This centralisation has significantly improved our ability to manage access, track usage, and maintain consistency across teams."

It is so straightforward - you can place images, text, shapes, and more right where you need them. The best desktop publishing software out there - easy to learn and use for beginners, but fully capable of advanced options for experienced graphic designers, copywriters, and layout professionals.

I can't think of anything. This is my go-to publishing software. I guess the only thing is, sometimes I wish I could do more "drawing" right in InDesign, instead of having to do that in Illustrator and then import it to InDesign, but since it's technically not a graphic design or illustrating software I can't really complain.

**What problems is Adobe InDesign solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to quickly put my vision for flyers, booklets, brochures, postcards and more onto a screen and then onto paper efficiently. It's plug-and-play; formatting is so simple (as opposed to a word processing program where you have to guess and maneuver to get what you want). I can even do data merge! It allows me to place images where I want, wrap text how I want, format text and page layouts easily, and incorporate graphic elements exactly as I want them.

**What do you like best about Adobe InDesign?**

Indesign is awesome for creating both print and digital catalogues, magazines, flyers and books. I particularly like how you can add interactive buttons, hyperlinks and page transitions, and QR codes. These elevate a basic PDF document, and make them actually fun to flip through. (Plus Illustrator and Photoshop don't have these options).

I also recently discovered the paragraph and character style options, which are SUCH a time-saver for making bulk edits. Similarly, the Find/Change feature allows you to bulk update text rather than manually edit each word.

Also, there are heaps of templates available on Adobe Stock that are great to browse through for inspiration, or download and edit. The stock library has business cards, catalogues, menus, brochures and more.

The layout is easy to navigate, and you can customise the dashboard/panels to your liking. I also like that you can edit the shortcuts, and choose what keys to assign to a shortcut.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

I encountered a steep learning curve when first learning Indesign. As an avid Illustrator and Photoshop user, I found some features (like image frames) very frustrating to adjust to. I also found the difference between shortcuts to be frustrating, like the 'Paste in place' option, which is triggered by different keys in each program.

To use Indesign to it's full ability, you need a powerful computer (especially if your project contains lots of images), otherwise it will quickly become laggy and crash. 

The standard plan provides 100GB of cloud storage, which is handy for collaborating with other users, but can be quickly exceeded if you’re working on a lot of projects. So it’s important to have alternative storage options, and only save files to the cloud if necessary.

Indesign is quite costly, so if you're on a budget, I recommend opting for an Illustrator subscription instead, because you can still create magazines, brochures etc, and this way, you can take advantage of Illustrator's other features (although Illustrator don't have all of the same features that Indesign offers).

Adobe Indesign helps me to create interactive files, like digital catalogues, and provides me with features that other software like Illustrator and Photoshop do not provide (page transitions, hyperlinks, buttons). It also helps me prevent both printing and digital oversights by scanning for typos, broken links, and missing fonts.

While powerful, the performance can lag significantly when working on very large files (100+ pages) with heavy imagery, even on high-end hardware. I also find the table formatting tools to be somewhat dated and clunky compared to the fluid nature of the rest of the layout tools. Finally, the subscription cost is quite high for freelancers who may not use the full suite every single day.

**What do you like best about Adobe InDesign?**

I have been using InDesign for around 4–5 years, and what I like most is how professional my work looks when I prepare layouts. As an architecture student, I need to create portfolios, project boards, presentations, and reports, and InDesign helps me arrange everything neatly. The grid system and alignment tools make it easy to keep drawings, text, and images in proper order. Master pages save me a lot of time when I have to make multi-page documents with the same style.

Another thing I like is the export quality. I can make high-resolution PDFs for printing, or smaller files for sharing online, without losing clarity in the drawings. Over the years, I have also found the integration with Photoshop and Illustrator very useful. I usually edit my renders in Photoshop, then place them directly in InDesign. If I change the render later, the InDesign file updates automatically, which saves me time and keeps the layout consistent.

**What do you dislike about Adobe InDesign?**

In the beginning, it was not easy to learn because there are so many tools and panels. It took me time to understand styles, layers, and master pages properly. Even now, when I work with large files full of images and renders, the software slows down or lags sometimes. Also, some advanced features are hidden deep in menus, so I had to spend time exploring before I got comfortable. The biggest drawback for students is the cost, since it needs a subscription.

InDesign solves a big problem for me: how to present my work in a clean and professional way. Before, I used PowerPoint or Word for presentations, but the layouts never looked balanced. With InDesign, I can place floor plans, elevations, diagrams, and text together in a way that looks like professional architectural sheets.

For example, I made my architecture portfolio in InDesign. It had more than 60 pages, and I used master pages, grids, and paragraph styles to keep everything consistent. I also used it for competition boards, where I had to fit a lot of information on large sheets without making them look crowded. In research projects, I used InDesign to prepare reports that included images, charts, and references in an organized way. Using it for many years has made me faster and more confident, and now I can finish layouts much quicker than before.
