Animate used to be very versatile. You could code a mobile application, a desktop application, a website hero, or even a very complex web app all within the same tool you would later animate a full-length video in. All would perform very well across 90% of platforms without issue.

Almost none of what I liked best is true anymore. Adobe ditched their application feature, making it so it's now an extra cost from a third-party to utilize the same features that were included. Their support on the web is limited to canvas, which is very useful, however their implementation of canvas is very bloated and less performative than just combining some animated SVGs and js. It would be a waste to attempt to utilize it as a web app, when you can go for more robust, quicker, and better documented platforms (React, Vue, even Flutter).

Its integration with AE is non-existent (or nearly so) when it would better serve for it to be a tool within or that works very closely with AE. Toon Boom and many other animation tools handle all the animation aspects better than Animate does now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
