What are large language models (LLMs)?
Large language models (LLM) are advanced artificial intelligence (AI) computer programs built to understand and generate human-like language. These models are trained on massive amounts of text data from the internet, absorbing everything from news articles to social media posts. With this training, they have millions – or potentially even billions – of parameters, allowing them to capture linguistic patterns and semantic relationships in language.
Once trained, these models can do a variety of natural language processing (NLP) tasks with language. They can translate languages, summarize text, perform sentiment analysis, and even answer complicated questions like a person would. LLMs are valuable tools for content creation, chatbots, virtual assistants, and automated writing tasks.
These models can learn from new information, too. The more they’re used, the smarter they become. Large language models are revolutionizing how individuals across industries interact with technology, making computers better at understanding and communicating in human language.
