I love the ease-of-use provided by the Audacity interface. In my opinion, it is the best free audio editing software available. I can import audio, record new audio, change the number of tracks, and edit the sound itself all very easily.

The cost is a huge factor, it is free. The software has been able to handle virtually every need I have ever had in regards to editing audio.
