HUMAN is highly effective at detecting, stopping, and slowing down bad bots while allowing legitimate marketing crawlers and human users through.
The platform is simple to implement, easy to manage and monitor. Customization rules allow for thorough whitelisting, blacklisting, and tuning.
We have observed a very low false positive rate, but when false positives do occur, CAPTCHAs generated by HUMAN do not cause much user annoyance compared to many of the other CAPTCHAs you see.

Having an external bot mitigation solution creates a more complex ingress chain for the site, as compared to having native functionality at the CDN layer like many CDN vendors are offering nowadays. From a DevOps perspective, implementing Bot Defender within our infrastructure has been largely painless. The detailed documentation resolved most integration challenges, while Human Security's responsive support team addressed any outlying issues. Security centric monitoring isn't my primary focus, but the web portal provides easy to understand analytical dashboards with granular data exploration capabilities for detailed threat investigation. The custom policy engine limits the ability to process compound rules using OR operators, constraining rule complexity. Additionally the ability to view daily/weekly CAPTCHA challenges metrics in a visualization would be a nice enhancement for the portal. That and the option for a dark mode interface. We have seen occasional increases in the human challenge being presented to our customers, sometimes due to tweaks or changes made by the HUMAN team. This can result in additional customer callouts and concerns. Custom rules can also cause us trouble, but those also fall into our hands to use more conservatively. It is difficult to know if we are blocking good traffic. Adding super detailed rules sounds good but then we hear about folks being blocked that shouldn't be. I think it would be best if we had a resource hyper managing the rules and very active in disabling and refining. I don't know that it was clear that we would need that level of care and feeding.

HUMAN Bot Defender is a fantastic tool that is easy to use and easy to implement. Their team is very helpful and has been willing and able to work with us to make sure that HUMAN works with our infrastruture and needs. - Uses a signature-based detection to block bots instead of hardcoded configs
- Very easy to use and integrate / implement - removes any manual work on my end after the quick set up
- Extremely responsive team that will answer you quickly when you raise questions / issues
- The dashboard is very detailed and gives me useful insights as to where the bots / spams are coming from (eg country, IP address, URLs they are spamming at)

We pretty much use HUMAN Bot Defender as a second firewall. We use AWS WAF already but the granularity of rules is fairly limited and it's difficult to defend effectively against attacks using distributed IPs. HUMAN has a very good rate of identifying malicious requests and also tends to kick in to begin blocking them faster than our WAF does, so it greatly improves our defence against DOS and credential stuffing attacks.
The Analyzer in the console is great, it provides a lot of information about the requests made and it's intuitive to use. It's easy to track down patterns in malicious requests or identify other things eg notice if one of our systems is sending more requests than it should be, etc.

It can be opaque why certain requests are being blocked or allowed and if we have issues with legitimate users being blocked, we generally need to call out HUMAN support team to resolve this; however they are very responsive.
