It does eat up a lot of memory and bandwidth to save and produce my videos. My employers tried to implement a cloud based setup, but it seems that Camtasia (products) don't work well with cloud based infrastructure so it needs to run natively on the hard drive. I've been using Camtasia since 2013 and it was the best for screencast videos. It has everything you need to record screen, webcam and sound and has a built-in non-linear editor as well. Reseña recopilada por y alojada en G2.com.
Camtasia changed a lot. The biggest change was merging the Windows code with the MacOS one. This was the first step down.
Every release has more and more bugs.
The 2024 release was hard to use on Windows, crashed many times. The batch export unusable (generates a file with noise, while the single export works).
The 2025 release is just a terrible alpha tech preview. I wouldn't release this. You can't do very basic editing (not responding, crashing after a simple timeline split or ripple delete). The webcam video disappears. You need to restart the app many times to continoue editing. It makes the editing process 5-10x longer. I keep coming back to it. It's so easy to use, and it's extremely quick to make rapid and make changes to your video. It's extremely easy to integrate existing video materials in and it accepts a breadth of video files and formats. You can also clip out audio out of a video by exporting audio only, and the wealth of transition options means you can make a professionally edited clip in minutes. Great for TikToks too. The one time I had to contact customer support, they were very helpful and got my install sorted quickly. I love that you can buy Camtasia for a one-time fee currently too. Camtasia sometimes has frustrating performance issues, and on occasion, your video preview and turn black for a certain portion of the video, making it difficult to edit. This is an issue that doesn't go away upon closing it, so if you really need to edit that little segment that goes black, you have to restart the project or reprocure the original video file to avoid corruption. Sometimes there are issues with larger file sizes not rendering properly or causing the application to become slow or glitchy. However, this was more an issue with Camtasia 2021 and earlier versions. Camtasia 2024 has made a lot of improvements to help prevent these issues, including using proxy videos while editing. Proxy videos are much smaller file sizes, allowing the editor to work more seamlessly. It would be nice if the proxy videos were less blurry when working with them in the editor, though. The only thing I have had issues with is how it saves video files after initial setup. I have not been able to change where the files save since I set it up. The combination of Camtasia and Audiate is fantastic. I hate the way my voice sounds on training videos. With Camtasia and Audiate I can write a script, have an AI voice read it, automatically generate captions, and then add my video recordings on top of it. The effects library is easy to use. I have really enjoyed getting familiar with the Camtasia editing platform, and have found it to be intuitive to use - even for someone who is not trained in video editing. I use it fairly frequently, and have found it easy to find locate supporting information to assist me with learning more about things I don't immediately know how to do. I like the ease in which I can upload my projects in different formats or to different destinations.
