The way of writing in 2023 will be through AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is here, ready, and able to revolutionize any industry it can get its hands on. Office technology is a clear example of one such industry using AI integration, specifically in employees’ writing tasks. AI is being implemented in the form of AI writing assistants and other similar software to improve the writing experience for users by making the process easier to write, proofread, check for plagiarism, and publish. The way that the current AI usage in the workplace is going, it can be predicted that the trend will continue into 2023.

To begin, it is important to explain what kind of AI is being utilized in the office setting. AI writing assistants are the most popular form of AI in office tech, which uses machine learning to help users in the writing process, including research, grammar, tone checking, and localization.

Users of AI writing assistant software exist in various forms. For instance, marketers are using AI writing assistants to make their writing engaging, SEO friendly, and grammatically correct before publication. HR personnel and recruiters are using these AI tools to post job descriptions and recruiting materials that attract prospective candidates with a welcoming tone. Authors and journalists use AI writing tools to get help with research topics, get over writer’s block, revise and proofread writing, and create sample drafts. Even screenwriters are affected by AI, as the movie industry has transitioned to AI software for reading and analyzing scripts to determine whether movies will go to production.

AI is taking these office industries by storm since it can make writing easier for any user. However, at what point does it go from being helpful for the user to taking over their job because the software has learned how to perfect it? Predictors hope that that dilemma is far down the road, but the way that AI writing assistant software is growing in prominence, it may happen sooner than we think.

AI writing assistants are the hottest trend in office tech this year

As shown below, out of the AI-leaning categories within the Office Software category on G2, the AI Writing Assistants category has significantly increased in terms of category page views within the last year. Especially within the fall months, there has been a spike in views from users as more and more people begin to realize the usefulness of having AI writing assistant tools.

Even the other categories that can be integrated with AI, such as Plagiarism Checker, Proofreading, and Screenwriting software, have seen some increase in either category views or the number of reviews per month. These types of software are truly moving up on buyers' lists of products since it is obvious how they make writing a much simpler process.

The future of AI in office technology

Like many other industries, AI is taking office technology by storm. Whether it's setting up office spaces, managing visitors' entrances to offices, or helping writers write more efficiently, the use cases for AI are never ending. This is a trend that people should watch out for, as underrated as office tech might seem.

At the rate AI writing tools are growing, writers must start finding ways to make their jobs stay relevant as this technology continues to improve. Writing is definitely not a dying industry, and the way to make sure humans remain a part of it must be tied with the willingness to work alongside this technology, not against it.
