The "best" software for plotting graphs depends upon user needs. Here are some examples: GraphPad Prism: Highly intuitive interface, easy control of graph elements, excellent integration with statistics and data analysis. Mac and Windows. Not free. Origin Pro: Similar to Prism but with more features and not as intuitive. Windows. Not free. PAST: Highly intuitive statistical analysis with instant graphs. Cannot directly edit graphs to the extent possible with Prism or Origin Pro. Mac and Windows. Free! R: Arguably the most fully featured statistics, data analysis, and programming software available. Superb graphics. Steep learning curve but worth the effort. Linux, Mac, and Windows. Free! Python: A popular scientific programming language with a wealth of packages for data analysis and plotting graphs. More generic than R and not as statistics-oriented. As with R, Python has a steep learning curve but it is well worth the effort. Linux, Mac, Windows. Free!
