It's difficult to state which software is better, because it's all subjective. Some people think that Audacity is better because it's free and does a lot of the things (perhaps more) than paid-for software does. Others prefer Sound Forge because it is professional and has a better interface. Since Sound Forge was bought out from Sony, however, there haven't been many changes or advances in the software. My advice would be to download both and play around with them until one develops a preference for one or the other.
