How do I back up and eventually restore the authenticator app data?

As you may have read I have been burned a couple of times due to google authenticator data being lost, For example an unexpected phone disaster, a failure to restore properly, forgetting a password or security, etc.I have not ever seen the option to back up or store however this is exactly what I would like to do if I’m going to use this because I’ve already lost a lot of time and productivity because the app was compromised. easiest way is a kludge. use another device to take a picture of the QR code generated when you choose to export, print the QR code, hide it in a safe place.

You can't. The only solution is so that when you setup MFA, you either save the QR Code or click on manual setup and save that long string. This of course shall be handled as a super secret, because with that string you can setup a 2nd 3rd ... so on authenticator.

My problem was actually that I did not even know you could back up Google authenticator gonna start using it and then I lost my information. When I tried to set up a second first time there was still no back up code anywhere so I’m not sure what the deal Liz but I am very wary about tonight don’t use it unless I have to

Hi Virginia - sorry to hear you've had such trouble backing up and restoring your Google Authenticator. Google's Help Center has some information on signing in with backup code, saying that "If you lose your phone or otherwise can't get codes via text, voice call, or Google Authenticator, you can use backup codes to sign in. If you don't have your security key, you can also use these codes to sign in. After you use a backup code to sign in, it becomes inactive. You can generate a new set of 10 codes whenever you want. After creating a new set, the old set automatically becomes inactive." For further how-to support, visit: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1187538?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
