Legacy SQL is a non-standard SQL only used by BigQuery. Standard SQL is compliant with the SQL 2011. Google recommends using Standard SQL and looking at the documentation and looking at the documentation it looks more and more like Google are deprecating Legacy SQL. There are multiple advantages using Standard SQL. Read more about it here: https://cloud.google.com/bigquery/docs/reference/standard-sql/migrating-from-legacy-sql#advantages_of_standard_sql
