# What is the best way to integrate After Effects with Adobe Animate?

I've been having problems trying to add in lighting and shadow effects into the program and it would be nice to know how other people do it.

Unfortunately After Effects & Animate do not share the same code base so the files are not interchangeable, and unlike most other Adobe products you can not jump from one to the other with live updates.

Animations exported from either can be used in the other, dependent on the file format exported. 

Probably the best use of both tools is to generate vector based animation in Animate, export as a SWF file, then import that into After Effects to add video effects/filters.
