I personally decided to give QuarkXpress a new try back with version 8. Primarily because they offered me a good deal with my old and abandoned version 3. I saw some interesting new development there, but it was a cumbersome version. So I sticked with Adobe InDesign. Also with Version 9 and also 10. But with version 10 Quark began to do the right things. They concentrated more on digital functions and improved speed and reliability. Then the new features for app-prototyping and development came up an for me Quark has some real benefits over InDesign. It's not so overcrowded with windows and palettes which do not refer to the things on the screen. The digital export options just work as expected. No surprising effects after export. Apps are simple to make and test easily on your mobile device. But they are limited to HTML5 based apps. Alongside with the app-features the direct export to HTML5 is also really handy now. It also supports responsive web-design, which may be a challenge for traditional print people. Surprisingly QuarkXpress also provides a full set of vector tools. I tried to create a very complex logo with 3D like appearance and it came really fine. It is not to be compared to illustrator then it comes to photorealistic vector art, but for flat design and even some three-dimensional effects it works good. Quark now also handles images in a way that makes it more and more independent from Photoshop for easy tasks as blurring, color correction and things like that. It also handles psd-files with layers better than Indesign does.

Ich mag das Boxensystem und die einfache Handhabung von Text und Bildern. Seit der neuesten Version nutze ich auch gerne die neuen Schriftdesign-Optionen. Vor etwa 10 Jahren habe ich versucht, zu Indesign zu wechseln. Allerdings war das für mich zu kompliziert und die Leistung von QuarkXPress ist einfach besser.
