While Hex can be used for a lot of things, what it really does well for me is to allow me to explore. To be creative and playful with data, while never loosing track of the big picture. Granted, most things Hex does can be done in a Jupyter Notebook, but the effortlessness with which you can do them in Hex, the ease of sharing your creations, is what really sets it apart for me. It also encourages you to do less in every step, so instead of creating 100 lines of complicated SQL you are more likely to create 5 lines that build on 5 lines that build on 5 lines, with super easy ways of viewing the impact of your code along the way. I use Hex both for prototyping modelling, that will later be productionised using dbt, but also to create initial versions of dashboards and charts.
