Product R&D Ops at G2Used Ctools, based on Sakai, at the University of Michigan
CTools is the LMS at the University of Michigan and was built on Sakai's open source infrastructure. What I liked best was being able to see all my assignments and class documents online as well as the ability to submit papers through the site. Some features like the chatrooms for classes was also a nice idea, though I did not see this utilized often, and when I did the participation in them varied.

I used CTools (powered by Sakai) at the University of Michigan as both a student and an instructor. The program served as an easy way to communicate important announcements between students and instructors, share documents, track grades, and facilitate collaboration between students. The ability to record and manage student grades using the tool was probably the most valuable feature for me as an instructor.
Overall navigation within the tool was pretty straightforward, which isn't always the case with similar tools.

Sakai has a great open source philosophy, and can be used to make very versatile products to manage course needs. As either a student or instructor, it's nice to have everything in one place related to coursework, grades, etc.
It's not fancy but it gets the job done.
