Der größte Unterschied zwischen diesen beiden Datenbanken ist, dass MariaDB Open-Source ist. Praktisch alles andere ist identisch, obwohl sich das ändern könnte, sobald Oracle (der Eigentümer von MySQL) die Art und Weise ändert, wie Metadaten im kommenden MySQL 8 gespeichert werden.
