File Viewer Plus is a lightweight and easy to use application. It supports a large number of formats and offers convincing updates.
The tool to check for updates does not work and I had to download the updated software directly from the page to reinstall it.
It opens a whole bunch of files types, including .doc and .docx (older ms word and newer ms word, basically). It also opens pdf documents, which is great because it's an alternative for adobe. It has open licensure, so independent contractors like myself...
I would recommend avoiding this software. It downloaded lots of unneeded software that took a long time to uninstall. And the uninstall part was very tedious.
