**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

1. This CAT tool is very easy to use and it ensures a good quality of translations.
2. It has a great built-in tool for communication with clients, submitting queries, and providing additional information to linguists.
3. This CAT tool is reliable. I've been using it for over 6 or 7 years without any issues.
4. Smartcat has a good support service, which provided me with all the necessary assistance with speed of light.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

1. It has very limited abilities for quality checks and work with tags and code, compared to advanced (and expensive) tools like MemoQ.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Quick to get started but again that might be a bane than a boon

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

The console is not user friendly and the platform is very non transparent. The smartword usage is not clear with 5 different numbers showing in different parts of console with no clear definition. You can definitely expect to run into billing issues if you are working within a tight budget.

Not clear and transparent with how and where your smartwords got consumed and therefore you would quickly exhaust smartwords and need to upgrade or are forced to live with broken customer experience for your product.

Support would not give you a timely response but sales would simply ask you to upgrade.

You need to make code level changes to accomplish not translating certain phrases and also the formatting gets quite broken for certain translations.

The plans look more affordable than competitors but the catch is smartwords are not really smart. The same phrase gets counted repeatedly across multiple pages and they do not mention this clearly anywhere.

Stay away. There are better solutions.

Had a rough experience with smartcat during our peak business season. Relying on them was a huge mistake from a business pov.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Honestly, it was and still is a tool that streamlines the translation processes we request in the company. The translations are fast and 99% accurate because the remaining 1% is a literal translation that can be fixed in the same Software, which the AI will remember and use in future translations.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

Sometimes, the Software indicates that its engines are overloaded after starting translations. I want to think that many people are using the software, and of course, it's not bad. However, they make translations take longer than an hour to work.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can list a lot of situations. 

- Translation of 700K words in three months. Took about 1-2 minutes to translate each file.
- Manually, we had to translate between 5 to 8 slides in PowerPoint. In the worst case, from 20 to 41, however, the tool made it possible in 1 minute.
- Manually, we had to translate flowcharts and operation sheets in Excel. The diagrams took about 40 minutes. It was a long process, but SmartCat translated the work that would take us a week into a day in less than a minute.
- In one day, we manually translated between 20 to 25 files, both PP and Excel and Word, on some occasions. What did SmartCat do? It tripled that number.
- Thanks to our saved time, we concluded the certifications with days to spare, allowing us to start with other projects.
- Engineers choose to use this tool.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

It takes what would have taken months with a third-party consultant, only minutes to translate an entire eLearning course. Not to mention the cost savings associated with using this platform compared to a consultant.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

I wish the glossary would translate the words automatically and then highlight it in yellow afterwards to notify you of the change. I believe this would be much more efficient than going through each individual segment. Additionally, in the post-editing phase, I would like to see an option where you can look up a word and select all the appear in each segment, type in the correct translation, and translate all at once. Using individuals internally who are not as familiar with the platform in the post-editing phase, this becomes challenging to navigate. If they had this option to do it just once, it would be extremely helpful.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cut down significantly on costs for translating courses and materials for other regions within our organization. It has completely taken away the need to bring in outside consultants to assist with the translation of courses and materials. This was significantly more in terms of cost and time. We now have the capacity to translate more, reaching more of the global regions with our materials.

I think smartcat is a very good platform for translation because I have worked before as well in smartcat so I really like that platform and it is very good.

The dislike of the smartcat is that it gives us very few words for translation, so it should give us a lot of words for translation and we should provide good translation quality.

I think smartcat is very good for our work when we are working there, then it is very helpful. There we are getting payment very easily, so in my point of view, it is good.

It's a great tool for a translator. Very easy to understand and maneuver.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

On my MacBook, using Google Chrome I can never login with email and password. It never recognizes it. And I end up having to always login with the code sent to email. It's an annoyance. Thanks for looking into it.

The fact that it checks on minor (easy to overlook) details as you type, providing you with some level of quality check.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

The platform is easy and intuitive, you can set up small projects in a few seconds but also get the option to set up more advanced settings if required. TMs integration works like a charm. Machine Translation is also fairly good, although paid one is almost spotless.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

The only thing I really dislike is not being able to turn off warnings. My language pairs are Portuguese and Spanish, so sometimes the wording will be similar or actually the same and having to turn off manually the warnings so I can proceed is very tiring. Of course it's not a major issue, just a nuisance

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work for a company that has me translating all kinds of things, from small projects to 30k+ projects and Smartcat is helpful for both. I used to have to translate on my own which is fine but time-consuming, when simpler sentences could've been translated already and Smartcat's machine translation also helped with that, making me more productive and my work less tiring.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

I love SmartCat because:
1. the system saves project managers time
2. the system covers from intake to invoice

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

It focuses on Translation and not other services such as interpreting, DTP, and voice-over recording. So I have to enter manually. (Voiceover is entered as DTP)

Vendor evaluation function is not yet installed once we lost it.

Smartcat offers an excellent cat tool at no cost, and help is available if needed.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

When doing translation jobs with smartcat we are invited to use Payoneer as a payment system, and payoneer is much worse in terms of service than any other payment system I know. They simply keep the money forever "in review".Never choose to use payoneer if you work with smartcat.

**Recommendations to others considering Smartcat:**

Consider comparing the translations draft with another CAT tool or MT tool to increase your options.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The CAT tools quality is comparable to other CAT or MT systems, and it comes at no cost, or when you wish for priority service, you can buy it by volume of pages to translate, not as a subscription or annual payment. Sometimes a file may cause a problem, but in this case the customer service helps almost immediately. Smartcat is very useful for my students, too, since I teach translation.

The platform has good workflow design allowing for a lot of flexibility and comprehensive management and customization of projects. The marketplace also works well, but could use some improvements.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

Parts of the interface are still clunky, management and insights into payouts could be more transparent and convenient to browse and control. Pricing could be more flexible.

Translation workflow optimization. By connecting Smartcat to our internal databases, we were able to streamline and optimize content production, reducing the overall amount of time required to manage and finalize projects.

SmartCat platform is helpful for freelance translators and proofreaders to search and position themselves for suitable jobs by registering themselves at their preferred rates. It is a practical CAT tool to help you translate and use translation memories and glossaries to speed up and stay consistent. Similarly, businesses get a mine of freelance workers to choose from at their preferred rates. You get paid for your work through SmartCat, and you can also add clients from other projects to receive quick payments. The interface is quite user-friendly. You also get OCR and machine translation help for nominal charges. Keep pitching to get 3-star ratings and complete a 100% profile to get regular matching with jobs. It’s a win-win platform for businesses and professionals.

OCR and MT are paid tools. So, you may have to pay extra to get help from these tools. Although it has plenty of jobs listed, some may be too old and irrelevant. You may filter the ones related to your language pair. Initially, you may find it challenging to find enough work.

I like that you could get paid through the system and find new projects through their projects board. The referral system is also another great thing that Smartcat offers, since you get paid for bringing your clients into it.

The CAT system itself isn't particularly advanced and could use some improvement. I did find some new projects on the jobs board. However, there aren't that many projects to work with, and the platform could do better to market itself.

My favorites at Smartcat are the freelancer-client linking feature and the various payment methods. Shortly, everything is in one place: There is no need for invoicing, and finding jobs and accepting invitations is easy and fast.

There are a lot of features I love about Smartcat:

1. There are a lot of free-of-charge language pairs for machine translation. Accepting that the machine translation is not perfect and proofreading / post-editing is required, Smartcat is a very good tool for getting the first translation draft with machine translation aid.
2. Smartcat preserves the formatting in the source document. I.e. the translated document is having the same formatting with the source document. This is very helpful, especially when I’m working with translation works involving tables and figures.
3. Smartcat provides a platform for worldwide connection among translators, freelancers and clients. It provides many job opportunities with a very good and handy payment system.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

Sometimes I find it challenging to use Smartcat with regards to the followings:

1. The design for user interface and navigation could be disappointing. It seems that there are quite a lot of stuff happening at the same time, such as CAT, project management and freelance job platform. Sometimes it looks a bit clumsy and overwhelming.
2. Internet connection is a must to work on Smartcat. Offline functionality is not available.

SmartCat is an amazing free CAT tool. It accepts many file formats and allows you to create your own TMs or use TMs from other programs, such as SDL Trados, as long as they are in TMX or SDLTM format. You can also add other reference files, such as style guides.
Uploading multiple files in the same project allows you to finish tasks much faster, as SmartCat recognises repeated phrases across files and automatically fills in the fields as you work.
SmartCat is very easy to learn how to use, thanks to the tutorials that show up when you first start using it.
You can also create a profile, complete with your experience, portfolio, services you offer, and prices, and use the platform to find and accept translation work.

There is nothing I dislike about SmartCat. The platform does archive your projects after a while, but it's still possible to download them.

When I upload my files, I can instantly have Machine Translation and then edit the MT to finish my documents. Recently, they started to give OCR services. Smartcat is a great assisting tool for all translators.

I can't edit the source document directly on Smartcat. This would allow me to fix wrong segmentations more quickly. Also, it would be great to have Machine Translation options, such as Google, Yandex, and so on.

If you are between Trados, MemoQ, and Smartcat, you must choose Smartcat. It is so much more user-friendly and fast. However, If you don't have online access all the time, it may be better to choose others.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Smartcat is one of the most useful CAT tools I've ever worked with. Its features are actually the ones that fit into my existing workflow. The addon costs are very reasonably priced, and work as expected.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

I'd like to be able to use my existing API keys for MT instead of paying to use Smartcat's, but the prices are reasonable and I don't mind that much.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartcat enables me to get my work done much faster than almost any other CAT tool I've used. I'm absolutely more productive, which means either I can take on more work, or more importantly, take more time to do the things I actually want to be doing.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

It's very intuitive and there is no distraction in the editor screen about the very details of features or anything else. Its simple interface eases the translation process.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

The QA page could be viewed on the same page with the translation. One needs to go to the problematic segment in a new tab at every turn, which bothers in long projects.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filtring and shortcut options helps decreasing the time spent on a task. And of course, seeing matches on the same screen with the translation is quite helping.

It uses translation memory from various sources very well. Thanks to this, translation is quick and very efficient.

The only minus is that you have to confirm sequences that contain only numbers.

The translation work orders often appear very similar or completely repetitive. Smartcat helps me translate them quickly, which definitely speedup my work.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Keeping track of the progress, being able to suggest terms and keeping our own Translation memories. Very simple to use once the whole process has been explained. The more we use it, the more I like it. Being able to add multiple people to do proofreading and choose who will do what is also a big advantage.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

A little bit difficult to get used to at first if you haven't used anything similar before, but once the whole process has been explained, it's very simple.

**Recommendations to others considering Smartcat:**

Smartcat is a system where you are in charge of your translations. When we make any changes to the translations, they are made directly in the translation memory, which is a massive advantage over having translations done by an agency. Once you get the hang of how to upload your projects and how the system works, it's really good and easy.

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are in charge of our own translation memory, which was a problem before with giving a translation agency feedback. This way, we will be able to improve the translations as we go along, meaning much less work the more we've translated.

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Smartcat is really helpful to manage all of our translations and proofreading processes! From start to finish, you can monitor the entire process, and you can get the results with the original format. On top of that, we have found the best linguists we need for every project in their marketplace! And last but no least, their support team response is one of kind! GREAT!

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

Nothing at all! I am sure sure they have included in their road map some features that might help us to get even better outstanding results!

Give SmartCat a try, their team is so great, their tools is one of a kind, and their marketplace is plenty of experienced linguists!

We found a minor problem with the inability to merge segments, but the Smartcat support people help us understand what to do next time we upload a project like this one where we experienced this problem. So, I know most of minor problems can be resolved with a good user guide that I am sure they keep producing constantly. So the benefit is centered in the ability to manage the translation, add translation memories, glossaries, monitor the progress. Assign to the best linguist and rate their performance, and of course, our payment processes are handled with ease!

**What do you like best about Smartcat?**

Simple and largely intuitive interface. Reliable. Consistently good performance although slows somewhat in US business hours. Good range of translators, good choice of MT technologies.

**What do you dislike about Smartcat?**

Not without its bugs in terms of refresh and, particularly filtering options. Supplier payments area notably susceptible to this. Always workarounds and support team fast and helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Smartcat:**

Based upon my personal experiences in setting up and managing a growing team of post-MT translators on Smartcat, I would happily recommend the platform. I was originally directed to it by an editor in one of our internal language teams as a means by which to rapidly assemble a language team. And she has been proven to be absolutely correct!

**What problems is Smartcat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Required rapid creation of English to German translation capability within strict cost parameters. Achieved rapidly with considerable onboarding help from SC account management. Estimate 80% fewer conversational transactions to assemble team.
